After spending ANOTHER few weeks touring Southeast Asia and THEN a couple of weeks exploring the cultures of India, we’re now halfway across the Pacific on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It’s our first time here together but after I flew out last month to free dive with sharks for Reagan’s 16th birthday, I knew I had to bring E, B and C back to see why I fell instantly in love with the island.
This Hawaiian hotspot is famous around the world for everything from its numerous filming locations for the Jurassic Park movie franchise, to the North Shore birthplace of big wave surfing, to being ground zero for the Pearl Harbor attack that brought the US into World War II. But its FOOD SCENE is also one of the best in the world. From its Polynesian roots to its Asian influences to its global imports, the variety is almost unequaled and the flavors are fantastic.
If you’re not already hungry, you’re about to be, because we’re taking you on an all-day tour in search of the most mouth-watering sites and bites on the island.

Guys! That commercial was awesome and a wonderful and unexpected surprise full of fun... Phil's drool showed his commitment to the craft. Kids tweaking on sugar was fun too.
Haha so happy you liked the ad. We’re trying to make them as entertaining as possible. And we had a lot of fun with it. 😊
Okay seriously, your vlogs always make us sooo hungry. Nelvine's all-time fave is Jenny's Shrimp. And don't even get me started on those desserts - the kids go wild for them, especially the shave ice. And Erin had me drooling when she was chowing down on that poke. Yummm!
You inspire us!!! Your episodes get better with each one and it motivates us to keep improving too. And when we've been working hard and feel tired, we think about our next meet up and it keeps us going :) Love you guys!
10:39 - LOL, this is too funny 😂 We can't stop laughing at Phil's dramatic voice and all that drooling 😂 The acting was so extra, it's hilarious 😂
Hahahaha! So happy you think it's funny. We loved getting creative and being silly.
Omg, you guys totally rocked that Kuala Ranch video! We had no clue they offered such cool tours. Your channel always has something new and awesome for us to discover. And can we talk about Colt's obsession with Lizard? Too freaking cute!
We were blown away by the experience there! We could have stayed all day doing tour after tour. And yes, let's talk about Colt's lizard OBSESSION... it's real and it's strong. He'll even being searching for lizards in Japan, I'm no doubt he'll find them.
We love Kualoa Ranch! We were there in August of last year, so we missed you guys! We truly love Hawaii so much! The people are amazing there and many Filipinos there which is awesome too! Great video! 🤙🤙🤙
Couldn’t agree more! And honestly, Oahu is one of our favorite places on the planet. It’s so clean, beautiful, friendly, and the food scene is outstanding!
@@AlwaysBeChanging We feel the same! After moving to the Philippines next year for hopefully many years, we want to move to Oahu later in life! 🤙
Taro - in Philippines we call it "Gabi" in Tagalog. But in our mother tongue ilokano from northern part of Philippines we call it " Aba ".
That's delicious when it is cook by a coconut milk, blended with some ginger, chili, pork or shrimp.
And that's what we call " La-ing" in Tagalog. Super delicious 🤤
That sounds so good. I bet it’s delicious 😋 Yum!
@@AlwaysBeChanging and now that you are in Hawaii, it's like a bit of US + Philippines, there are plenty or should I say Hundred of thousands, of Filipinos are there, and mostly they speak the same language as we do " ilokano dialect" because some of the many first farmers before who went in Hawaii to work as farmers ( same as the Japanese did)
They are from Ilocos and Cagayan, the Upper northern part of the Philippines..
And that's a fact, because my great grandfather was one of the farmers and become settlers in Hawaii before.
😊😊😊😊
Enjoy your Hawaiian adventure, Godbless 🙏
@@Neil1588 the snow puffies are from a Filipino bakery 🥰.
@@AlwaysBeChanging Filipinos are everywhere... Even the remote island like Faroe Island, there are a lot of Filipinos. ( It's in the middle of Iceland and Norway )
But US territories like Guam, Saipan (Mariana Islands with Tinian and Rota), Palau , American Samoa are just like Hawaii, it's a second home for thousands of Filipinos.
you can get spam musubi pretty much anywhere in Hawaii - gas stations, sporting events, and golf courses! I brought a friend from California to a golf course and he was so surprised/happy to see spam musubi after the 9th hole... visitors get the usual hot dog or sandwich, but locals get musubi...
I get it. I e been craving them ever since we left.
Love this family! Can’t wait for the next vlog. ❤
Yay! Thank you!
Hahaha! Some of the other movies shot in/around Kualoa ranch include Mighty Joe Young(1988) & Windtalkers (2002)
So many! It’s a beautiful location 😊
I love visiting Hawaii and especially O 'ahu, my "second" home! I lived there for a year and a half! My son was born there, my "little kahuna. You enjoy the other islands like Maui and The Big Island.
Phil your " ad" was hilliariouly funny and almost legit! Ha ha : ))
So happy you like the ad!! 🙏 The Big Island will be our next vlog and then we go to Maui next month (after our Japan trip).
I love the skit!!! and of course, I love the channel. Keep it up! :)
🥰 thank you thank you!
fyi - the Portuguese people not only brought the malasada to Hawaii, but they also brought the instrument that became the iconic ukulele! originally known as machete or braguina, this instrument became popular when Joao Fernandez was seen playing one so fast and skillfully, the Hawaiians said something like 'his fingers are moving so fast, like jumping fleas...' Uku = flea, Lele = jump.
That is fascinating!!! Thank you for sharing that bit of history 🙏
@@AlwaysBeChanging my pleasure - I actually teach ukulele to middle school students...
@@lifesabeach5405 actually, He'e Nalu (surfing) is accredited to Hawai'i.
You remember that guy who talked to you RIGHT after you said leave a like and subscribe, that was me. Nice to see you guys!
😄 Yes!! It’s so cool when our digital life and real-world life collide :) Thanks for saying hello there!
Im a Filipino and I live in Hawaii. Im always watching you guys esp. Most of your episodes was filmed in the Philippines
Aloha ABC family! Wow I'm the first one ...Hello from Maryland nice to see you guys back to AMERICA!!♥
Hello in Maryland. It great to find so much culture in the US :)
The chicken cross the road😂😂😂😂 I love this video 📷 post more please😂😂
FYI....@ 4:00...Malama=To care for, protect. Farmer=Mahi'ai=Mah-hee-eye
Thank you. Getting the exact accent and pronunciation of things is hard for me. Phil is great at it though. We appreciate the help!
You Guys Chose Some Good Places To Eat! Popular Spots For Locals As Well As Visitors. Safe Travels And Aloha🤙🏽
Aloha! 🤙 we really enjoyed everything we ate and I’ve been craving the grocery store poke and masubis ever since we left.
don't forget - every island in Hawai'i has it's own vibe and things to do... I grew up on Kauai, but now live and work on O'ahu.... love your vlog! mahalo!
Mahalo 🤗 Thank you. Our next episode is on Big Island and then we’re going to Maui next month after our trip to Japan and planning multiple episodes there, including a day on Lanai. We are all falling in love with the islands 🥰
if you're going to a potluck in Hawai'i, coco puffs are a welcome contribution - it's definitely not just for tourists! lol.
😋
that drool … epic !
Haha! It was interesting how good he was at it 😂
Wow you guys had a lot of food, sweet food yummy. I would love to go around that grocery store you visited. I would love to see more of Hawaii 😊👏
I could live in that grocery store!
@@AlwaysBeChanging
Yeah me too 😆😆😆
In some parts of O'ahu, you can find Jackson chameleons in the trees....
So cool!! Colt will love to know that.
Taro is available at grocery stores in Idaho. I'm sure most states. It's great for soups.
That's good to know. Thanks!
My goodness so much food, looks delicious, not a sweats eating gal but looked good. I hope u shared a bite of each dessert. GOD BLESs you all and Happy EASTER! I would love to see how people celebrate the risen LORD.
Thank you!! You might be surprised that I (Erin) am not a sweets fan either, but they were exceptional bites 😋
@@lifesabeach5405 your answer is in the Bible, read it. FYI: quickly
Just discovered your content yesterday coz of this vlog! I live here in Hawaii now and always love to watch content in Oahu so I can try them. I have seen a lot of content in Hawaii and yours is one of my absolute favorites! Good fun and quality information! Really enjoyed this video! Since I’m new here just wondering, how come Reagan doesn’t travel with you?
Welcome to our channel 🤗 so happy you found us and you like our episode. To answer your question, Reagan likes staying home and going to in person school. We also share custody with her mom so she likes staying home with her when we travel.
@@AlwaysBeChanging Thanks for answering my question!! I have enjoyed the other videos on your channel! I like the format of your content, it’s mix between travel show, food show and vlog! Pretty refreshing to watch because it’s a different tone from the other ones I’ve watched!
If you ever come back to Hawaii I recommend Adellas Country Eatery, they make homemade noodles/pasta made with different ingredients and then take it to eat at Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens
Excellent
Can I just say that Colt has beautiful eyes? Anyways, great episode!
Thank you, thank you and 🙏
Try spam onigiri in Japan also, you can buy it family mart convenient store only
We kept our eyes out for masubis in Japan but didn’t come across any, or any spam.
Enjoy your vlogs! But you guys missed out on Ted's Bakery - the birthplace of Haupia pie, since you guys love desserts. Regarding the garlic shrimps - Giovanni's Shrimp truck is the one - day or night, rain or shine, there's always a line! There was no line where you went for a reason. Lastly, you also missed Matsumoto Shave Ice, which is the best on the island. Ask any local. But I'm sure you guys will be back. Make sure to explore Waikiki - my # 1 resto - Marukame Udon! That is the first place I always go to for food when I land.
It’s hard to hit them all. We were torn between Matsumoto and Uncle Clay. Uncle Clays was so delicious I can’t imagine a better one but I guess we’ll have to go back and compare 👍🏻. And looking forward to trying Marukame Udon sometime! Thanks for watching!
What a cool channel!!
Thank you! 🤗 so happy you found us!
Clarification on Hawaii/Hawaiian directions. Majority of locals on Oahu use island areas when giving directions...North Shore/Haleiwa/Kahuku...for obvious reasons as they're on the N-side of Oahu...East/Windward...often used in reference to the area btwn Kualoa/Waiahole to Kailua/Waimanalo...S-shore, used in reference to area btwn Hawaii Kai/Maunalua Bay & Waipahu, which includes WKK/HNL & Pearl Harbor...W/Leeward... referring to area from Pearl City/Waipahu to Waianae/Mokuleia. Usually Very dry, like desert. Normal cardinal points of reference usually do not work w/regards to island directions
Taro is tuberous root, akin to potato, sweet potato & yam. The wholly taro plant represents origins of Hawaiian culture. Much too long to get into here, even in Cliff-Notes/generalized version!-lol..In essence, it's sacred cornerstone/building block of Hawaiian culture, specifically & Polynesian society, in general
Thank you 🙏 for that great info! 😊
Do a Japan Vlog!!! :) :p
Absolutely!! He head there very soon.
omg in my dreams
Love it! Will you get a chance to make it to Kauai?
Not this trip but we are coming back to Hawaii in May. We'll be in Maui and probably Lanai for a day. We'll have to look into Kauai.
Brooklyn is so cute ❤❤
🙏 thank you ☺️
Aloha!
Aloha! 🌺
hello from you know who - my wife and I and our 3 yr old son came to Hawaii for a month. We were
supposed to go to Cebu but some friendly Muslims got their dander up and ran thru the airport shooting
and we figured that I would stand out too much so we picked Hawaii instead, this being 35 years ago. Since
then we have been to Maui three times, once for our son's ( wife's idea ) destination wedding. $$$ - sugar for ever.
Wow! So glad you decided to play it safe and stay in Maui. We’re actually going to check out that island next month 🤩.
❤❤❤

Bondage accessory.... lol
Haha 😆 we didn’t know how many people would catch that.
Never had Spam?
Nope, that was my first time 😊
@Always Be Changing Going to Oahu for the first time in June and I'm definitely gonna try the musubi. 😎👍Nice channel also.😁
@@michaelnino5082 Thanks 😊 We loved the masubis. We craved them for a week after getting back. You’re going to have a great time!
