It does rather appear from this video that Croatia is some sort of Bizarro-world where nerds are predominantly attractive ladies rather than the more usual weirdy-beardies in anglophone countries (I include myself in the latter category, obviously!)
It's not that the attractive ladies of Croatia become nerds; it's the same dynamic, really. Just that the average level of the attractive Croat lady is... well, much higher :p
ahahaha, wow, a friend showed me this video, this is awesome :D Hi everybody, greetings from Zagreb, this is Kid Flash cosplayer, reporting for duty and shenanigans!
Wow that Tezla girl was sweet! Geek girls are generally sweet. The only thing as sweet is farmgirls. Often the problem with geek breeding is that in the habitats where geeks thrive it is often like 10 to 1 males to females or something. Therfore i recommend male geeks to seek habitats of farmergirls. They are generally down to earth geek-like girls only more low tech orientated. Which is a perfect match for the kind of geeks who watch the Lindybeige channel. Just be aware! Horses are very expensive. ;-)
It's heartwarming to see that geeks are similar the world over, because it means that if I were ever able to visit somewhere else where language might be a barrier I could fairly easily find something to help get around that and get to know the people. :)
"FIVE sizes of towels and a hair dryer with the performance that my lifestyle demands!" Absolutely hilarious! It looks like you had a good time. Thanks for the great video.
Haha a brit getting akward because of que complications. Such a classic. I have only seen it twice myself and it is a beautiful stereotype to witness live.
The word geek is a slang term originally used to describe eccentric or non-mainstream people; in current use, the word typically connotes an expert or enthusiast or a person obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit, with a general pejorative meaning of a "peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp[ecially] one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".[1] Although often considered as a pejorative, the term is also used self-referentially without malice or as a source of pride. Its meaning has evolved to connote "someone who is interested in a subject (usually intellectual or complex) for its own sake".
Lindybeige • Was your talk on RPG about Rocket Propelled Grenades or Retrograde Pyelogram, (a medical imaging procedure to visualize the urinary tract)?
3:40 I know how to make one of those gyroscopes. It's part of modular origami. But, It's never even crossed my mind to make one so large. They can be really difficult to put together without having some sort of buckling in the structure or points popping out as you try to put in other ones.

Well I'm a Serbian woman geek, that's close enough. Btw, Tesla was a Serb despite being born in Croatia, I'm risking to start an endless dispute here but I had to point it out. We all want him for ourselves, which is more than reasonable.
Nikola Tesla was actually born in 1856 to Serbian parents in the village of Smiljan, in the then Austrian Empire. OK that location is now in modern Croatia. On 30 July 1891, at the age of 35, Tesla became a naturalised citizen of the United States. However, as most genius inventors, he was actually a Scotsman.
***** The band was not Cindy Kidd, it was City Kidd, and anyhoo, Nikola Tesla invented the 1. Alternating Current 2. Light 3. X-rays 4. Radio 5. Remote Control 6. Electric Motor 7. Robotics 9. Wireless Communications 10. Limitless Free Energy 11. Facebook. I do not see time machine in that list.
This looks like fun, I might have to check to see if anything like that happens in the nearest city where I live. My problem is I'm just not nerdy enough to know what half the things at such a place are :(
00:37 Roit, Nikkie, the game is up. I figured gaming was in there somewhere, but you wrote and ran LARPS? And had an RPG mag as well? And did re-enactments too? You've been a busy lad, me boy, so... Hey Lindybeige, were polearms also used in formations, like pikes, spears and halberds? Also; Could you do a video about halberds? I think they're a very interesting weapon, much like the polearm.
Pikes, spears, and halberds are all types of polearms. Polearms are a very broad category that's pretty much any weapon attached to a long stick (thus the "pole" and "arm" parts of "polearm". Also lindybeige has done several videos on halberds.
Hey Lindy, I think it would be really, really nice of you if you'd put little annotation videos on UA-cam, where you would tell us where are you travelling (in advance of course). I would hate it if you some day went to Poland and I missed the occasion ;)
Lindybeige True, can't afford to have you lose all those fancy weapons and tabletop gaming jewels. But then you probably know some cool medieval way to keep burglars away. A moat (with mandatory crocodiles)? Some mutilated corpses on stakes?
Looks like a great convention. Much less crowded and less aggressively commercialised compared to the ones I've been to in the UK (and therefore probably more enjoyable, too...)

I think cosplayers do it to make the costume mostly, and then wear it just to show off the work they're proud of.
Some do it cause of that but the reasons differ too much to put a concrete definition on why people do it.
Some do it cause they love creating something and showing it off as you say
Others do it cause they love a series so much that they want to bring a bit of that world into real life by living it themselves and or meeting people cosplaying as characters from the same series and recreating scenes, socialize, make friends and so on and so forth
Others simply for the attention
While some do it simply cause they feel like wearing a costume of someone they like while walking around there and having fun
And those are only a few of the reasons people cosplay c:
