I hear a South African accent. Greeting from a fellow South African muso living in nashville.
Hello!
I have an Adam A7X speaker. Is it worth changing to Kali LP6 V2 or IN 8V2? Which one sounds nicer, clearer?
Kali lp6🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey mate, im new here, was searching for a 2021 review of the Kali's. I'll order mine in a week or so but i got a small question before that. I know it's been a huuge topic for this monitors but did you hear any noticeable hiss from the speakers or ..in general ..anything disturbing ? This question has been asked many times(is annoying i know... :D ) but is important to me. Awesome video and thank you in advance ! Cheers :)
To be honest, I only set them up for the sound test and haven’t used them again... I didn’t notice any hiss when I did the sound test though so I’m guessing you should be fine 👌🏼
@@EdwardSmithMusic Alright then , thanks and good luck ! 🤘🔈
@@NightmareBeats. Buddy have you purchased LP6?
Please confirm about Hiss/ noise issue?
@@Musician_Rajat Yes i have them! I confirm the hiss sound BUT! They are near filed speakers , the proper distance for working with them is 2-2,5 meters from you.As soon as you follow this rule the hiss sound is unnoticeable and it’s not really a big deal and the sound that you get is just ...👌👌👌❤️! I was going to choose Yamaha but im glad i didn’t. I’ve worked in professional studios and i graduated as sound engineer...trust me this pair of speakers is special.Don’t hesitate and BUY them..you just can’t go wrong.../im not paid to say that, they just really are good ../ The hiss is not an issue! I hope i helped! Good luck! 🥃
@@NightmareBeats. Thank you so much ❣️
The white version looks fire 🔥 sadly it’s not available in my country 🥺
Ahhh that sucks!! 😒
I have a subwoofer, will i need to buy an amp to connect the sub to these speakers? Also, i'd be buying 2, so what amp (if needed for subwoofer) would I need? thanks
Hi Edward! Excellent job dude. I have a question tho... I´m in the market for the ADAM AUDIO T5V or this Kali LP6 but i can´t decide... I love agresive metal and rock music, and i will use them to play my guitar with hi gain and my Neural DSP Plugins so... I want clarity and a good bass response. But i like good bass over big bass. Hope you can help me dude. Thanx!
Honestly, the T5V’s would be my pick 👌🏻
@@EdwardSmithMusic The T5V it is then. Thanks! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱!
@@EdwardSmithMusic and is the Adam audio T8V even better?
stay home be safe ❤
I've had mine for a couple years. They've worked perfectly and sound good. That said I never noticed any hiss until this morning and it is pretty noticeable.Either my hearing has gotten better, the hiss was always there(very strange if so,I'm using everyday in same location at same gain setting) or they developed a hiss.I unplugged both input cables yet it is still present in both speakers. With this I am disappointed as I cannot unhear it unless playing them up loud.
krk has that depth of bass and tightness..kali is loose and thin..i listened with audio technica AT50..BUT OVERALL I guess kali is the thing ,,with lots of options out there
i think Kali audio is sounding a bit clearer than rockit.. is it???
Hey Edward, thanks for the good review. I'm using the original JBL 305s and might be time to upgrade, so comparing the plethora of monitors in the lower end range, but with a small studio space, seems unwise to get anything too big, even thinking that all the 8" ones are too big. But seems like lots to admire in the Kali, especia;;y paring costs in areas not paramount and focusing on the actual thing we want them for: sound quality. Now my quick take in your A/B comparions is that the Rokits sounded a little boxy to me and the Kalis a lot more natural, and that their frequency response also seems a lot more even across the board. Anyone else think that too?
Absolutely my opinion too! 'Boxey' is how it's best described. There is so much more clarity it seems in Kali and more natural. Just bought a pair today, as it happens! So very looking forward to using them. They allow for so huch headroom too and can crank it without struggling. Very good sound straight away. Played some Black Pumas for some acoustic appreciation and then wanted to know how they handle a bit of serious dubstep to test the lower capabilities and they just blow you away on both ends of the spectrum! Bought for just £100 today in a local pawn shop! 😊
@@robertedwards8592 I guess it was shortly after that I got the Kalis and I totally love them.Have the dip switches to adjust to your room's situation is also a major plus. Glad you got a pair, moreo with your lucky find.
The best
Thank you 💪🏼
Should I sell my JBL LSR305 mk1 for Kali 6? For mixing electronic ambient house music
whats your reference monitor?
First View & first Cmnt 😍😍
See the Kali aren't even an option here where I live, they're nearly DOUBLE the cost of the KRK Rokit 5s. In fact, I can get the Rokit RP8 G4s for the same price as the Kali LP6, which makes it an easy choice for the KRKs.
If I had to chose between the Kali LP6 and the KRK Rokit 5 which would you recommend ? since they are in more or else in the same price range .... btw i love bass.
I would go Kali Audio... it has a flatter sound which to me is more important. The KRKs do have more bass though 👌🏼
for 5 inch monitors I recommend yamaha hs5 and adam t5v. after these 2 comes the KRK rokit.
@@zaporoshti3392 o Kali é superior aos dois rs
The the current price of 199. Is it a single or pair that i get ? Do i need to pit the quantity as 2 when purchasing ?
I have a pair of these monitors and are really good. I noticed one thing that the right monitor will pop sometimes when I power down my set up. Even tho I power them ON last and OFF first. Not sure what can be the cause I’m worried if this can be an issue later on. I have them both connected to a power strip and that’s how I turn them on/off if that help btw.
Do we get XLR cables come included with studio monitors?
No unfortunately not...
Im pretty sure no monitors come with XLRs included.
Buying the Kalis tomorrow! (They're cheaper now @ $119/monitor)
Damn. Where? It’s too late for me. I just bought a pair last week for $200 each.
@@Nobddy i ended up getting the V2s but they were $169 each at Guitar Center. The V1s were only $119 with guitar center and Sweetwater (a couple of weeks ago, at least)
@George Jørgen Jürgen Jorge bro, I love mine. They sound incredible. I think you’ll be happy. And if not, return them.
If my monitors are going to be near a wall, should I buy these or JBL 305P MkII?
which ones did you get?
Having an iMac and I am learning Logic Pro, I want to get monitors so I can feel easy that what I am learning to mix will be the real thing and I am not spinning my wheels in my learning. Might be a really dumb question but what way would you approve of to connect monitor speakers to my iMac? There is the headphone jack, but I'm clueless on mating the computer with the monitors. Please don't laugh at me, I know I'm just starting but I've watched you for a while and your opinion would be something I trust. Thank you, and thumbs up 👍 I guess I should add the basic question to this too, are these monitors a good choice for me to be learning Logic on? You know, stuff like EQ, compression, reverb etc, or would you lead me in another direction? I lean more toward easy vocals type stuff as I am a male singer wanna-be lol.
I just picked up a pair after mixing for 8 years I gotta say they are awesome! Perfect for iMac but you need an audio interface.
There’s a cable you can buy that can go directly from your 9mm to a split to both speakers
@@jefflandby4843 as long as it’s balanced
Great video! Do you know what cables you used to plugin to your interface? I have a focusrite 2i2 and doesn't have xlr out. Do you have the same type of outputs?
Use a xlr to Trs cable u should be able to plug those in the back of your interface
@@justinmoore7472 thank you man that actually makes a lot of sense
Which would do better for metal and Djent? KRK or Kali?
I would go Kali Audio 👌🏻
@@EdwardSmithMusic thank you man :)
audio science review reviewed these monitors some time ago, they did quite well in measurements and are a very, very affordable pair of reference monitors for small studios. but I would argue you can get a lot better if you spend a little more, you do get what you pay for... can't complain for $300 a pair, its stupidly cheap!
I agree!!
What would you recommend then
So you recommend what…?
Whats better for a little bit more in your opinion???
A1zWestcoast I bought a pair LP6 speakers and they are the best speakers I have ever owned.
Hey man I love your video’s and I just subscribed but I have one problem. I’m blind and I can’t tell when your switching from monitor to monitor, if you could tell us when you are about to switch monitors it would be highly appreciated but not just for me but for the blind community. It would probably get you mor subscribers to
Try wearing headphones so you can hear the switch between the monitors... you should definitely here the difference.
@@EdwardSmithMusic I did still don’t know which monitor is which. Which one did u start with first?
@@tbrown3264 he started with the Kalis first, then switched back and forth...ended with the kalis too
I was told these distort at higher levels, is that true?
I have to buy a pair of monitors .. plz tell me who is better ? krk rokit 5 g4 or kali audio lp6 .. plz sir .. reply.. your reply is much more important to me ...🙏
Kali Audio all the way!!
I mainly listen to classical music. I'm thinking of buying Kali LP6. What do you think?
Great choice!
@@EdwardSmithMusic Thank you very much for your reply.
I have the kali audios. I like them but every time I am maxing I always end up with too much low end. I don't know if its because they put out very low end and then I end up boosting it and it does translate very well when it gets mastered. I think I need a monitor that gives me better low end so I don't end up adding
as much.
you don't judge studio monitors on "how good they sound ",these are not home stereo speakers ,, they are judged by how realistically they reveal the mix without coloring the sound ..or over enhancing frequencies
also the comment on not knowing how well the dip switch settings work is a huge blunder if this is supposed to be a serious review for people serious about buying them .
also how was the focus and spread in a mix situation ?
Are Kali audio lp6 are better than Yamaha hs5?
They are both very good
Hi, comparing these Kali to the JBL 305P MKII ? I Have 300 to spend, tho I'd rather spend less.
I have a video coming up in the next few weeks were I will be looking at the best studio monitors on a budget and comparing them. The list will include the Kali Audio LP6, JBL 305P MKII, KRK Rokit 5 G4, Yamaha HS5 and Pioneer DJs New VM50. Stay tuned!!
@@EdwardSmithMusic that sounds great! Problem is I have a 20% coupon for 24 hours more at Guitar Center that miraculously has M-Audio, JBL and Kali on the list. So can u give me a pointer perhaps early? Another question I have since I'd rather go cheap but dont think I should---you like presonus 3.5 for the true budget end of things. I have not heard these live. Are they really passable do-able like are they decent enough to get a mix right? Let alone just for listening. ?
Presonus: Sound good but too many Q/C issues with those. Stay away!
Kali LP6: the best sounding monitors under $500 USD given their larger size. At $300 a pair, they’re a bargain. The caveat? Their internal design involves a much higher level of self noise (hissing) that may annoy you when totally silent. If you actively listen to music with very little idle time, those are hands down the best.
JBL: sound really good. Many complaints of self noise and some Q/C issues. The glossy finish is fugly, IMHO. Go with Kali LP6 instead.
KRK Rokit 5 G4: if you watch enough comparison videos on budget studio monitors, there is a good reason why those are always featured - almost like the gold standard. Let’s put it this way, on the scale of 1 to 10, these get 9.5 all around. Well balanced in every aspect and, overall, solidly built. Personally, those are the ones to get for $350 USD a pair.
Good luck in your decision!
@@EdwardSmithMusic plz include adam t5v too!
Those both the speakers have same features on the back, meaning are they alike to each other .
These studio monitors don’t have the exact same features, but similar.
@@EdwardSmithMusic nah bro i am talking only about the kali, does both the kali backs are similar. I am trying to find but can't find both the pairs they are selling single.
Better than hs8 ? And krk ?
Not better than the HS8 no 👌🏼
Thank you so much Edward waiting for more content from you
@@imabiral525 Thanks for watching!!
Sounded to me like the mids were pushed back on the kali
They definitely sound better than the KRKs, but they are kinda ugly and plain at the same time, plus that blue LED just kills it. They need a shroud.
Can I connect these to my tv? Lol 😆
They come in pair?
They can be bought individually or as a pair.
Krk is good its crisp and bright tight
And the kali it makes more low freq
First!
I ordered kalis, there is too much of hiss, like raining sound, not able to mix at all... may be mine was defective
Try plug your laptop into a different power unit than the KRKs... sometimes the hiss is caused by internal electrical current interference between gear.
Edward Smith kalis are great. My 1 input in ur44 was raised to 80%, that was the problem. There is no hiss at all.. great review by the way!,
Are these recommended for karaoke?
Not really… they are more for studio purposes
Krk sounds amazing more depth, my cousin has some their amazing
kali sounds much clearer
those krk sound much better
I wouldn't recommend them, they have great low's and mind's, but they have problem with higher frequencies and almost no control over it and I have to turn volume knob to max and give more volume on the interface, they are very quite :/ I compared them side by side with PreSonus E5XT and E7XT and both of them sounds better overall. I think JBL 306 could be better either or buy some used HS8.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. You don’t even make sense.
@@eastwoofer ok 😅
HS5 or Kali LP6 please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a comparison coming soon!! 👌🏼
@@EdwardSmithMusic cant w8....ill buy either lp 6 hs 5
I think Rokit wins here! But not bad for its price on Kali Audio.
My preference would be Kali for sure. Listening to this comparison on DT990 headphones I find Kali to be more natural and opened. But I did hear both in person as well so I know Kali have wider and "bigger" stereo image to my ears. This recording seems to be mono so that doesn't really come out. I own KRK Rp6 G3, and the Kali sound just so much better in every way. With G4 they made a lot of improvements though.
The KRK are bass heavy, whilst the Kali have an almost flat frequency response, so they are in my opinion more suited for mixing, but also good for general listening.
This video is not the greatest to hear how they sound.
@@emadeathmetal1264 I agree.
Needs to be a bit louder
Why the hell is the comparison in mono. why.
Kali audio it's out of my budget :(
#rekanation QnA
kali is better than Krk.
These speaker suck don’t buy them , if you’re looking for the price range spend $100 more and get the M audio BX8 They sound way better plus the speakers blue indicator light doesn’t work on mine brand new just bought them so definitely fuck the speakers Returning on Monday
KRK sounds better, for IMHO... :)
Secondd
The KRK has a lot more bass than the KALI
but the Kali's has the most flat response the bass is tight not boomy means you will have good mixes while using it
and Kali's has good stereo image that makes it sound wide open not muddy unlike the krk.
The rokits sound ridiculous. What s messed up frequency response. The kali’s are nice and flat. There’s no comparison. No shortage of boneheads out there.
The Rokit's sound like garbage.
Sounds as if the monitor is placed in a somebody's used dirty sock..
They both sound horrible, This is why you cant do these tests, because youtube compresses and you also have to factor in the mic you are using to pick up the sound. its just not realistic. Not even close to be accurate. You just have to try both in real life.
These are crappy monitors. I regret every cent i invested in those: Sound is below average, they distort and can't withstand some frequencies, hiss is considerable and their power supply is wacky. Avoid ! Don't believe the hype. Cheaper PC speakers will give you better audio than these so called studio monitors.
