a few things I'd add: 1) these early 5K iMacs tend to develop a pink hue around the display. the one in this video also suffer from it, although not really serious. so if you get one, I STRONGLY recommend to check that first with a full-screen white/grey image (you can do that by going to safari and type about:blank in the address field)... remember: the display is the solely reason you'd get one of these. 2) if you have one with SSD then great, but if you don't, you can always install macOS on an external SSD and boot from there. i know you can upgrade the internal SSD but for most users it's just not worth the hassle and the risk of breaking the display (again, the display is why you bought one, and you dont wanna break it). 3) for the time being the iMac is still very usable... but let's say 5 years from now if it's too slow (especially compared to apple silicon macs), you could always mod it to be a standalone 5k monitor by using a custom board. of course this requires complete disassemble of the iMac, but for this purpose it's worth it imho. look up luke miani's video for more details.
@vbminh May I ask if the pink hue around the edges on the 27" iMac gets worse over time and if it's a sign that the screen is about to fail completely or does the hue tend to remain static and not get any worse? Was this problem remedied on later 27" iMacs and if so from which year will this not be a problem? Thank you in advance.
Yes, I am still using a 27" 5K iMac from late 2015, with 32 GB of memory with a Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with and one terabyte of storage on a SATA disk. Running macOS Monterey. Thanks for your video. This iMac is still my favorite and I don't understand why Apple will not bring in back with Apple's new M4 chip. Why they landed on a 24" iMac is still confusing to me.
Igot mine this machine With just myr1600, around usd400, very satisfied, previously owned imac 2009, admire the screen clarity and the amazing speaker, it's very sufficient 😊
My MIL just gave me her late-2015 5k iMac, base spec. About to upgrade the memory from 8GB to 32, and swap in an SSD. (Will give it at thorough cleaning when it’s open..) Hopefully it’ll run a bit quicker. This is my first Mac desktop computer and so far I’m impressed with the OS and display.
Bought a 2015 5K iMac a couple years back, and converted it to an external display for my M3 iMac. The screen is still gorgeous by 2024 standards, and actually has better brightness, contrast, and more vivid colors compared to the M3 iMac screen. So these systems are still worth the $$ solely for their displays. Way cheaper to transform it into a 5K monitor than what actual 5K monitors are selling for.
I still use a 2012 21.5” iMac. macOS Sonoma gets slow and unusable, probably because of the shitty but dirt cheap SSD I put in place of the terribly slow 1TB hard drive. Windows 11 runs really well though, completely usable, and can do some games. Minecraft is playable, and GTA IV runs well. Haven’t tried GTA V, because it requires too much space.
I own the 2015 iMac same specs, apple has quite a supporting Ventura so I downloaded malware bytes to scan for viruses. I don’t care about upgrades etc but do care about security. Please let me know if that is your solution too? Thanks ps my iMac runs great
I have the base version which I am still using. i5 3.2ghz, 16gb ram (came with 8, i added 8) and m95 with 2gb video card and 256gb ssd, That’s what I could afford at the time …. I am waiting for m4 pro and max chips to launch and then i will get the Mac Studio unless they do an iMac Pro
The 5K display is amazing. Buying a used iMac is a great way to enjoy it! Avoid the Fusion drives. I'm a little paranoid about OS security and support, so I just replaced my 2017 iMac with a 2020.
Great video I want one of these. my three 2015 15" Macbook Pros still run flawlessly. I run virutal linux machines on them. Sure my M1 Max destroys them but my 2015's are my two daily drivers. media sports. I beat the shit out of them and both literally have never crashed. No issues. I open them asnd keep them very clean inside but still. My M1 macbook Air is far better but for everyday things. 2015 was a great year for apple

I updated my Late 2013 27" iMac with 1TB 2.5 ssd, 1TB 2280 ssd with open core legacy very happy with it
Still using my late 2015 27in 5k iMac!!
I’m just about to install Legacy Open Core Patcher so I can upgrade my OS and give this beauty 2 more years?!

I am planning to buy a Mac mini. I have an iMac Late 2015 ,can it be used as a monitor? How to connect? Is there any delay? Thanks a lot。

Awesome computer! You can upgrade the CPU if you’re feeling really ambitious. Not sure it’s really worth the effort anymore
@@GoJot Was kinda jealous that yours is the maxed out version after I've gone down the rabbit hole of researching iMacs lol. Good vid, keep it up.
Im planning to use an older 5k imac as my monitor for my new MacStudio !

Definitely worth it, cool project!

Nice, good to know!
Great video as always bro.
Still using a iPhone 6s, adding a iPad Pro 2015 alongside it, cant say no to value with my uses being quite in line with the hardwares capability

OpenCore patcher, you can easily run the latest version of Mac OS. Malwarebytes is junk and doesn’t help anything
You shouldn’t really ever get viruses, I mean it’s a very low chance, given you browse on trusted sites and don’t click odd links
Any necessary to upgrade the memory to 64GB in order to get the maximum performance? By the way a single 16GB module is kind of expensive right now.
GoJot is it okay if you can give me a link to your eBay because I can’t find it

I'm not an apple fan but I like the imac and I might buy this one
I paid 1200 for my 2022 M2 macbook pro and thats the most im paying for a computer not 4,000$ 💀
@@Bryce-yz4fd Good thing it’s not 2015, and these don’t cost $4000 anymore
Except for my 2015 MacBook Pro, all of my older macs have been converted to Linux.

Just buy a 2022 M2 macbook pro
