You're right, that mini desperately needs a thin coat of wash, maybe tone-on-tone (blue on blue and so on, instead of the classic black or brown wash) to avoid losing the brilliancy of the colors. I... don't know how to feel about D&D redesigning their dragons... the classic designs are so iconic and last time they tried people weren't so happy about it (4.0 green dragon comes to mind). I'm not saying the gold redesign is bad (as a matter of fact I vastly prefer this new one over the classic one) but still, D&D dragons are so iconic... They better not touch the black dragon, though, by baby boi is PERFECT.
One of the national stores I shop from had these on sale last weekend and I was going to buy one. I'm not as sad that I missed the sale after seeing the close-up, I agree it needs more paint steps on the main body.
Keep in mind the wings are a bit more brittle than some of the other dragons. I think it’s because of the translucent plastic they’re using. My moonstone dragon got knocked of a dresser onto a carpeted floor. Both wings snapped off. Fortunately the break line isn’t too obvious after supergluing the wings back on.
I have the young moonstone dragon from Fizbans and I am going to use it as the wise and playfully odd protagonist helpers to assist my players during the Feywild part of our campaign. She will ultimately be the catalyst for moving the story forward for three -she can provide a “moonscale” that is required for crafting an important artifact (one of her scales) -she will be able to open a portal to get the PCs to there next destination. -the price for her assistance is defeating the Feywild guardian of a platinum mine
Nice, looking forward to having this. Not happy with the re-designs coming, they’re fine artistically but just seem like a reason to get Wizkids some new cash streams. Disappointed, but still excited for 5.25e
I mean, an art refresh seems fine to me, especially since new minis (or any minis at all really) aren't required to enjoy the game. People seem to enjoy the dragon minis, so getting new ones seems like win to me!
@@TheGallantGoblin I can see that perspective sure. But given for the Adult dragons people have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars/euros on getting the core 15 (never mind the others) it does seem like a disappointment to be told “yeah, the edition is fully backwards compatible but now your dragons are out of place” oh but perfect timing, here’s someone to sell you a second set! I mean I’m a sucker, and I’ll buy them. And yeah, you don’t have to use minis at all or even minis that exactly match. But for a dedicated core who buy Wizkids prepainted to get the matching minis… well it does seem cash-grabby. And that’s coming from someone who is usually happy to throw money at both WotC and Wizkids!

Oof! Good to know! I had the tail break off my sapphire dragon not too long ago in the same manner. Was quite upset about that. Glad you got it fixed up!

Yeah, it does seem like something a novice painter could probably improve on their own, though it's a shame that those extra steps are needed.
