I FINALLY Heard "DARE" by GORILLAZ for the FIRST TIME!
Fun Fact: The guy singing 'It's Dare' is called Shaun Ryder who used to be in British 90's Manchester bands Happy Mondays and Black Grape. He's actually saying "It's THERE" but due to his strong accent it sounded like he was saying 'Dare' and so that's what they named the song.
Specifically he was saying that in reference to audio mixing and that was just his studio call outs, but they were so intrinsically catchy they built a song around the.
Fuck, I miss Happy Mondays!
Gorillaz is my favorite non-metal group. Every song makes you wanna move.
Same bro their great. Love the artwork and lore as well
Same here
I've never agreed more to anything in my life
They’re so unique. There no other band like gorillaz. True gem 💎
Gorillaz are up there as my favourite non-metal band, right behind the Prodigy
Feel Good Inc is one of the songs you need to hear. I love Gorillaz they just do so much different stuff and its so interesting too.
that was the only song of theirs he had heard before his first reaction to them cause his friends played it a lot around him
that song is too overrated... how about doyathing?
Honestly with Gorillaz you can’t go wrong with anything off their first 3 albums. It’s all fantastic! I’d even throw in their 2 b-sides albums as well (D-Sides & G Sides)
I'm less fan of their latest stuff.
Too Much guests/duets etc.
Still cool stuff, tho, but when i wanna listen to Gorillaz i'll put back Demon Days and 19/2000 anytime.
Agreed! I love their D-side so much honestly. And the first albums were best and remain nostalgic
The creator of Gorillaz, Damon Albarn, was also the lead singer of Blur back in the 90s. The real life person in the video was Shaun Ryder, lead singer of Happy Mondays
This 👍
The lyric, and thus title of the song, was written as "It's There". But Shaun's accent was so thick that "there" came out as "dere". Albarn found it funny and changed the title to "Dare".
Blur is back btw
The number one thing I've noticed about GORILLAZ in my time of listening to them is that you can't think of just one song when you think of them. I get D.A.R.E. Feel Good Inc. Clint Eastwood, Saturnz Barz, 19 200, and the list goes on. Every single one of their songs is THEM in a very unique way that I don't get when I think of other bands.
Super fast jellyfish, Stylo
All the ones you said plus Rhinestone Eyez, Empire Ants, Andromeda, Busted and Blue, Humility and New Gold are my favorites. And pretty much anything off of the Humanz album is perfection.
None of their songs are forgettable, that's why. They each have their own style and character. It's difficult to say Gorillaz does a specific genre because it varies greatly even within the same song.
More Gorillaz please!
Feel good Inc
Stylo
Melancholy Hill
19-2000
Kids Have Guns
Tomorrow Comes Today
Super fast jellyfish
19-2000 must come first
I like Deltron Zero
Also dirty harry and empire ants
Alex, how have you never heard this song before?!
I gaurentee you he has xD same as I gaurentee most of the reactions on this channel are fake by this point, but it's all his UA-cam career consists of so much like most other reaction youtubers, he has to pretend these are his first reactions! Otherwise he's lost to the algorithm
@@thecaptain8963 That's not the case with Alex... He always says if he remembers are song , or not , it had happend a few times were he has remembered a song after hearing the first minute or so
Have you heard him talk about his upbringing? He liked rap music growing up and is Christian as fuck. Some people are sheltered. My bro is a hip hop head I'm metal. I guarantee you my bro couldn't name a single gorillaz song though it's what I blasted all throughout middle school.
have you heard every song ever?
@@thecaptain8963at least he can spell guarantee
The head is the one and only Shaun Ryder lead singer of Happy Mondays Great Band.
This is my all time favorite of Gorillaz! I heard the "dare" part that the guy is saying/singing was supposed to be "there" but his accent was too heavy so they made it dare!
I heard something similar. Apparently they came up with the "it's coming up, it's there/dare" when they were testing his monitoring volume in the studio
Shawn Ryder (the head) is from Manchester in England, in the Manchester accent the t sound often becomes d instead and certain sounds are elongated
Shawn is the lead singer for the happy Mondays, another well known band in the UK
I'm from London and we all said "dare"for there. My mum always said it was laziness. 😂
Okay, so there is this huge story with Gorillaz that could easily net you dozens of videos. The first album, or phase if you will, is pretty loose with it's storytelling. The second phase is where it gets narratively more coherent (and IMO the most interesting), starting from Feel Good Inc., continuing with El Manana, then Stylo, Melancholy Hill, Doncamatic and culminating with Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach and Rhinestone Eyes. And Empire Ants as a sort of epilogue/recap episode.
Seeing how you mentioned strobe lights, I'd say Strobelite is another Gorillaz song worth checking out. Very funky and danceable!
My thoughts exactly!
Yes!!!
strobelight gets my vote!! or submission, which is another kind of vibe again
Dare is still a jam, always makes me bop. Also, the head is Shaun Ryder, front man of 'Happy Mondays', a prolific band during the 'Madchester' musical movement
They're just so friggin good! Throughout the years I've been collecting their music. They never disappoint. They're considered alternative, but they have so many styles, they fit anywhere.
Feel Good inc.- Gorillaz thats another good one
He's already done Clint Eastwood. But yeah, Feel Good Inc is legendary
Damon Albarn puts so many layers in his music, it's incredible. He's an incredibly underrated musician. Gotta hit Stylo, 19-2000 (I prefer the soulchild remix of the song, gets me in a good mood no matter what), and El Mañana. Clint Eastwood (my introduction to Gorillaz and was hooked). I also really like the song 'Aries' even though some people don't.
The soul child remix of 19-2000 is amazing. But 19-2000 is probably my favourite Gorillaz track. And definitely one to check out.
@@ChrisReactor1 19-2000a remix has been my ringtone for over 6 years now. :)
Where is he underrated? Not in Europe. Blur and Gorillaz are very famous here.
@@niccinicnic9335 Here in the U.S., Blur was not one of the major bands of the time. But did get played on the alternative rock stations.
Damon has never been underrated
They have 2 song with genre changes within the songs,
1. Dirty Harry
2. Empire Ants
Possibly my too most favourite after November Has Come. November has come doesn't have a genre change but its fantastic.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs. I put it toward the end of my workout playlist because it gives me a burst of energy to keep going.
Oooh, good idea. If I ever get off my butt and try to start exercising again, I'll definitely add this to the future playlist.
Please bro keep watching the videos in chronological order, you will find they tell a very cool story that follows the members thorough the years. For example, Noodle (girl) was 10 when the first album was released and now she is 32. She's a supersoldier btw.
This is my fave Gorillaz song of all time. When I lived in Japan in college in 05-06 I listened to this song every single day on my running playlist :) Brings back memories every time I hear it. Love that you're listening to them!
Feel Good Inc or 19-2000 should definitely be your next next Gorrillaz reaction! Both are amazing songs!
Fun fact: The human head in the video is Shaun Ryder, the front man of the seminal group The Happy Mondays. The title of the song came from the fact his Mancunian accent pronounced "There" as "Dare".
There's a very long list of bangers from Gorillaz but keeping it short "19-2000" has great animation in the video and sounds like it was ripped straight out of a 16-bit video game, "Stylo" is among my all time favorites and had Bruce Willis in the video, and "Feel Good Inc." is an all time classic
Thanks. I couldn't remember which one Bruce Willis was in!
glad to see more gorillaz reactions from you!! for more of their earlier stuff i recommend either 19-2000, tomorrow comes today, or dirty harry next! im assuming you've seen/heard feel good inc but if not that one should definitely be next!!
yeeeee, best song by Gorillaz!
Fun fact Noodle got her name because when the band discovered her on their doorstep, she jumped out of a FedEx box, played a wicked guitar solo, and then bowed before she said "Noodle".
Also some Great songs by Gorillaz of the top of my head you should react to. Pacman, Saturn's Barz, Humility, Do ya thang, Desole, Momemtary Bliss
Definitely a fun group.
I've been metal since the early 70's and there are other contenders for my choices of best non metal but these guys are well up in the top 10 for me.
The videos and concepts are really great.
Gorillaz brings me back to a better time when i was younger.
It's one of the few songs that does that to me, Damon albarn is a genius his collaborations are always top tier.
Growing up a full metalhead Gorillaz has always held its spot in my all-time top ten and succeded at drawing me into other genres
All their albums are great and have lots of variety.
around a year ago I went and saw Damon in concert and the gorillaz set/earthgang set were INCREDIBLE, now getting to see prob my favorite music reactor check this absolute banger out is huge.
Gorillaz is one of my favs. What I always find interesting is how the Noodle character literally grew up throughout the videos since her appearance in the first video "Clint Eastwood".
Gorillaz is just so good and I know I can come back to them anytime and just vibe to everything! DARE is in my top 5 but man there are so many bangers!!
I picked up their self titled album many years ago when I was a teen. It was an impulse buy at an airport before I got on a plane, had my walkman with me...that album will forever hold a special place in my heart, first full Gorillaz experience for me. For react content though I would likely recommend Stylo, Saturnz Barz, or if you want a music video/song that will put you in a great mood, Humility (It features Jack Black)
One of my all time favorite songs, I belt it out at full volume every time it comes up on a playlist.
I love how Noodle dances -- She got game
The end of this song still makes me laugh even after all these years, great reaction glad you are enjoying gorillaz hope to see many more 👍
Great video Alex
In the part where Shaun Ryder was saying, "It's coming up, ii's coming up, it's coming up, it's dare" was him in the recording booth was him calling out to one of the techs that was turning up the volume in his headphones, his English accents was so thick that when he said, there, it came out dare. and they decided to leave it in and change the name of the song.
19-2000, Stylo, Kids With Guns and Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head are some other good Gorillaz songs.
Definitely worth checking out their Demon Days album (which this song is from) as well as the Plastic Beach album. Demon Days especially is banger after banger, and I've never heard anything quite like it.
That’s Shaun Rhyder from The Happy Mondays. I saw Gorrillaz in Dublin Ireland a few months ago and they are absolutely amazing live. Great gig.
Yaaaaay! I LOOOOVE this f*cking song.
It's simple but infectious. It was my ringtone like forever.
As soon as that beat drops, so does my ass...involuntary...😂😂
Just got home a couple hours ago from seeing Mammoth (Wolfie Van Halen's band), Sevendust, and Alter Bridge. Man it was a great night in Buffalo NY. You should check out any of their new music. Mammoth had an album coming out in a few days, Sevendust just released an album and Alter Bridge released an album in October 2022 I believe. I've seen all 3 bands before, and this was the best they've sounded. My ears are still ringing, arms hurt from leaning and being pushed into the rail every 2 seconds, but damn that was fun. Vaping some THC and I'm glad to see a new video from you. Thanks 🤘🎶
Glad you're delving down the Gorillaz rabbit hole. I can't recommend enough the song 19-2000. That said, they have a number of absolute BOPS. Saturnz Barz is catchy and fun, and I believe it has a 360° version of the music video. El Manana is another really good one. Really, I don't think you can go wrong.
You have to listen to On Melancholy Hill, Rhineston eyes, dirty Harry,Stylo, Humility and Trans.
About time you reacted to this song. Another song that is good from a newer album is “Stylo” by Gorillaz.
The head was a guy called Shaun Ryder who was in a band called ‘Happy Mondays’. Check out the song ‘step on’ by them. Love Gorillaz though, they have a song called ‘stylo’ with Bruce Willis in the video
Gorillaz’ “Demon Days” album is the soundtrack of some of the most formative years of my life (high school into college), and I still think it holds up today. It was WAY ahead of its time. I can recite the entire album from the first song to the last, including every instrumental breakdown. 😂
You know what you need,Alex??.. the whole discography of Gorillaz, you're not going to be dissapointed.👌🏻
Feel good inc is a must, also all of the plastic beach albumn, keep up the good work
Many years ago Cartoon Network in the US used to run a block of shows called Toonami with anime like Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z. Then later in the evening they had a block called Toonami Midnight Run where they'd show uncut anime and more adult stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. This block eventually became Adult Swim. But on August 31st 2001 they ran a special where they played a feature length animated music video called Interstella 5555 and three videos from a brand new virtual band that had a similar aesthetic but a darker sound. Those videos were Clint Eastwood, 19-2000, and Tomorrow Comes Today. And that was where my love for both Daft Punk and Gorillaz began.
you should look into the lore, the characters have backstories and they have a timeline, only pieced together by all the videoclips, weird flash games that no longer exist, comics and shorts and other stuff, there are a couple of videos on youtube that explain all the gorillaz timeline. The characters are so unique.
And there are so many more cool songs from them! Looking forward to more!
Yes!! AMazing song brother, glad you know it now!
The song was originally called ‘it’s there’ but with Sean Ryder’s thick Manchester accent there sounded like Dare so Damon changed it to Dare
Its kind of awesome how seeing a cartoon kid break out awesome dance moves makes you want to move, its so cool how that works.
I discovered Gorillaz pretty late, around the time The Now Now came out. I think Dare was the first song I heard from them not off that album. It's still special to me.
The Now Now is underrated
Please Please Please look up the lore on each band member. They each have a unique and amazing story behind them, and it makes listening to (and watching) them that much better.
Yes! 😁 I clicked as soon as I seen you reacted to Gorillaz again! Stoked! Bring on more! Some of my favourites you could do are Dirty Harry, Feel good inc, Rock the house, 19-2000, Stylo, Saturnz Barz, tomorrow comes today. Amongst many others 😅
Rock the House, for SURE!
I saw them live last year in Verona's arena and they are amazing. Many many songs to hear... dirty Harry, 19-200, on melancholy Hill, stylo
The human head/backing singer on this is Shaun Rider from Happy Mondays. You need to listen to his group Black Grape and the track "In The Name Of The Father". Such a good tune
The entire album Demon Days has stayed on my Desert Island 5 since it first came out. It's fantastic start to finish.
I'd recommend the Junior Sanchez remix. It's got a completely different vibe. My local radio station played it more often than the original. If memory serves, it was originally released on their D-sides album, which has other official remixes for some of their songs.
They have a new song named "Cracked Island" very diferent, but same time very familiar to other Gorillaz songs, take a try! Nice video and reaction!
I had a 'moment' to the 11 minute DFA Mix of this -- absolutely incredible
One of the many times we moved I was driving with my sibling while my parents took the other vehicle. I had the entire Gorillaz- Demon Days album playing on repeat the entire drive to our new place which was over a 6-hour drive XD I literally remember that move because of it. That one move that I wasn't as mad that we were moving because that album kept me sane. For reference, we've moved so many times in my lifetime its been about 15 times...I stopped counting and most of our old places just get referred to by the appearance of the house.
Gorillaz is one of those bands that get me actively excited when they drop new music. Im rarely ever disappointed by stuff they do. One of the only times i can think i didnt like a song was the song they did with Bad Bunny on their new album (Also my 1st Bad Bunny song).
DEFINITELY check out "Stylo" by them next. Super catchy song with maybe the greatest music video of all time...
Their videos are a full on story, like an anime series or something. You schould look up for chronological order of their music videos and try to follow that in my opinion. The coolest thing about them is that the band is a virtual music concept art and there are loads of great artists participating in it's creation.
Ryder's the bollocks end of! Check out the Happy Mondays fella nobody sounds like them (despite thieving melody lines and lyrics a plenty from the depths of pop music) or ever has since - sheer magic in their funky drug fueled chaos!
One of their newer songs "Aries" was great. Featuring bass by Peter Hook (New Order).
New Order were another bad from the Manchester club scene, along with bands like Happy Mondays (Shaun Ryder, the guy in the vid).
I know you've heard "Clint Eastwood" already, but Feel Good Inc was/is also great.
Pretty much anything off of Plastic Beach has to be your next listen. My top 3 from that album would be Some Kind of Nature, Rhinestone Eyes, Superfast Jellyfish
Superfast Jellyfish doesnt get enough love
Also check out their song '19-2000'. That one always makes me happy.
Rhinestone Eyes, Empire Ants, and Saturn Barz would be the next 3 I’d recommend
Gorillaz gets your vibe on and keeps it there. 👍👍
Recommend "All Alone" from their 2nd album (same as DARE & "Feel Good Inc"). Wasn't a single, but gives you a split in tones that's pretty cool.
God this takes me back!!! This song was fire. Gorillaz are fabulous.
This song is disgustingly addictive lol. Gorillaz just know how to create atmosphere. Some of their newer stuff is hit or miss, but when they tap into their roots, they are like magic to the human mind lol. It invokes so much thought, and I am quite the thinker!
Im shocked u never heard this everytime i hear it im so happy and listen to it while working out
Definitely checkout every track on the self titled album not a bad track each one is great.
Frikkin love this track. For those that can remember the show, Noodle’s dance moves always remind me of Ally McBeal from back in the day. The same almost-but-not-quite-on-the-rhythm wiggles. 😊
Songs to check out from Gorillaz: Stylo, On Meloncholy Hill, El Manana, Rhinestone Eyes, Strange Timez, Pink Phantom, Lost Chord, Dirty Harry, Tomorrow Comes Today, Humility, Kids With Guns, 19-2000, Empire Ants, Ghost Train.
DO FEEL GOOD INC. IT WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST THINGS YOU WILL EVER HEAR
Feel good inc or duncomatic would be really cool to see! Loved the reaction!
Thanks for reacting to my fave Gorillaz song.... A couple of other quirky bands/tracks to check out: Fun Lovin' Criminals "Scooby Snacks" and Bloodhound Gang "Mope"
6:59 ur reaction lolol 🤣
Same dude, but the Demon Days album in general is and always will be amazing and unique 😄
1. On Melancholy Hill
2. Stylo
3. Rhinestone Eyes
4. Saturnz Barz
5. Humility
6. Cracker Island
7. Silent Running (Video is Prequel to Cracker Island)
8. Oil ft. Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac
9. Stylo
10. Dirty Harry
Gorillaz songs are really timeless, absolute vibe
Jamie hewlett the artist of gorillaz a phenomenal artist !! The second album is an absolute MUST listen all the way through !!! 2D noodle Russell Murdoc
Legend has it the title was originally "its there" but with Shaun Ryders strong Manc accent it came out as "its dare"
I highly recommend 19-2000 (the music video is pretty wild), and their song El Mañana. Both are a lot of fun.
This has been my ringtone for…gosh, two decades now? Funny seeing someone react to this song~
I was driving a 1978 Dodge Magnum with a 1,000 Watt subwoofer when I found this song. My insides shook as much as this song makes you moce on the outside. Good times
condensed gorillaz bangers in no particular order for you to maybe write down (with available official music videos): tomorrow comes today, dirty harry, el manana, stylo, rhinestone eyes, doncamatic, andromeda. i hope you get to cover them all one day. (feel good inc is not included because it is impossible to not be familiar with it already even if you do not know the name)
Props to you if you don’t end these videos and listen to entire albums 😂
Pretty sure that’s what I’m going to do tomorrow now!
The song Dare is track 12 of Demon Days which is their first album. There is also the album called GORILLAZ, G-Side, Plastic Beach, and a couple others that I don't have. The song Dare was posted on UA-cam 12 years ago. The first time I saw this was on a tv show called RAGE or was it Video Hits.
Demon Days is their 2nd album, not first. First album had Clint Eastwood, 19-2000, Rock the House, and Tomorrow Comes Today... Demon Days had Feel Good Inc, Dare, Dirty Harry, and El Mañana on it.
I never knew i needed to see Alex do the tootsie roll😂 but im happ i did. Since you like Gorillaz so much, you really should do a reaction to ther song "19-2000" its there best single if you ask me!!
Melancholy hill and feel good inc. is probably my favorite Gorillaz tracks.
First two albums are GOLD
But also do the Stylo video ❤
19-2000 and Strobelite are other amazing Gorillaz songs it's one of my favorites
