The A’s jerseys are a notably different green to their caps. Mariners didn’t have their cream uniforms in time for their first Sunday home game, but I know some fans do. How are fans getting them before the teams? Likewise the Rangers similarly didn’t have their City Connects for their last Friday home game, neither did the Brewers. I don’t know why they don’t sell fashion first jerseys for fans as well? like surely most fans who wear jerseys don’t actually want athletic wear when they do. Sell actual replicas, sure, but sell something designed for sitting in the stands as well…
I made the huge mistake of buying an Anthony Volpe jersey that cost $409 yes you read that right and when it finally came in I was immediately appalled by how awful these jerseys were and went online to look for the 1-800 number and called them and said that I want an immediate refund and to take this piece of shit back. They tried to tell me that since it was custom made they cannot accept any returns and I said that’s ok I’ll dispute the charges with my bank and get the refund then and sure enough got the refund and still kept the jersey to which I couldn’t even give the damn thing away and to think that some players like Judge, Ohtani, Acuna are going for damn near $500. What a fucking joke.
Mentioned at the end, but MLB should have been aware of this for a while. The jerseys were used in the ASG and no one complained. The Royals also used these for an entire Spring Training
This worries me immensely for NHL sweaters next season... The trend of make it cheap cheap cheap, is alarming. I realize that Nike seems to have designed this failure in MLB, but Fanatics has top to bottom design and production for NHL next season. We will see if this was Nike or Fanatics issue.
Brodie, (I'm at about a minute in and you may get to this point later on) what about something as simple as official team colors? I think it was the Cubs players that notices that the Cubs colors just looked different on these new dumpster fire jerseys. Absolutely no one is willing to own this mistake. I just hope fans aren't buying them, but we know they are because many aren't really tuned into this conversation because they're perhaps regular Joe type fans (which is fine). I just want them to be aware that the money they're spending is being spent on trash and they should hold off for a bit. But this is just how stuff goes (especially in the world of tech). We are supposed to want 'new' and 'improved' as consumers and if we don't see that from companies we like I'm guessing the thought becomes fans are just indifferent about gear and nothing feels like its moving. Well, the world doesn't have to move at such a brisk clip. Right now MLB and every other company under the sun wants to be a 15 second TikTok video, building trash product only meant to die for the sole purpose of being able to sell us more junk. ZERO quality, just trashy nonsense. I'm out on these jerseys. I don't buy every year, but I will occasionally as new jerseys or players hit that I like. Once the Nike logo landed I was out, but this? Forget it. Keep 'em.
How are merchandise sales of the new jerseys compared to the old ones? I own a couple of "real" Verlander jerseys from his time with the Tigers, but I'm not motivated to buy a new-style jersey.
Excellent coverage of this-exposure of the different venders and swabs of fabric needs more traction. No more "exploring options" to remedy. ACTION! required. nike must go.
Nike made my college unis in 2004 as part of an update and the greys were the best quality I have played in. Perfection. Yes, the tops were a bit heavy for hot days, but they improved that in 2010s.
Another big issue is some jerseys aren't ready yet. Like Seattle's Sunday (Cream I believe) ones are apparently not going to be worn until May or June when Nike/Fanatics can get them to the club.
The fact that there shirts are being darkened by sweat means that the sweat is being absorbed by the material and it’s not wicking away to be evaporated. This can actually hinder performance and not Aid in it.
How about the issues of availability? Some teams have not even got their jerseys in-time for games. Also, as an international fan I have to buy my merch online, however most teams only have home jerseys or older uniforms available for purchase.
Went to my first Reds game of the year, sat first row and whoever approved these jerseys should be fired. The names on the back look ridiculously small. They look like the lettering from the women’s jerseys last year. It’s especially bad on players with short names like Cruz, Baty, Diaz, etc.
The plackets on the new jerseys are comically skinny. It’s most noticeable with teams that have them outlined, e.g., Red Sox, Tigers, Mets, Giants, etc.
Come on. It’s the use of cheap import materials… let’s be real here. That was a bogus face saving statement. They just strapped a fancy description on it to market it to the consumer. We’re all being taken advantage of..
I feel bad for players who miss out on the payoff from all those years of hard work and sacrifice. Picking up that jersey, seeing your name on and knowing you made it.
I’m a Mariners fan and I will NEVER buy another Mariners jersey the way that Fanatics/Nike have made them. We previously had the best name plate in the league and now we have THE WORST. They changed the font on the back our navy blue road uniforms to something basic. Some of the team’s name plates don’t look too bad but ours look absolutely horrible. The navy blue on “Mariners” on the home uniform isn’t Mariner navy either. It’s way lighter. Let’s just call this what it is: Nike and Fanatics are making cheaper jerseys and calling them “authentic” to rip the fans off. And MLB approved it. Why? Because MLB doesn’t care about their fans at all. They’ve made that clear for the last decade.
I wonder how difficult it would be to simply go back to what was being made by Nike/Fanatics from 2020-23. I can’t imagine it would be *that* hard to do.
History repeating itself. 12 years ago, Nike took over the NFL jerseys and there were complains about the jerseys. After a couple of washes the collar would fade badly. Issues with material and also various parts would discolor greatly when wet making the jerseys look terrible on TV. MLB should have learned from this when dealing with Nike, but I guess all they saw was the money.
Before you stated it, I was appalled that MLB’s statement did not include the fans into the equation. It’s amazing to me on just how much they are shooting themselves in the foot. And after spring training and almost two full weeks of the regular season, I find myself still seething every time is see those NOB small fonts. The thought process to also to drastically “improve” an element in the sport that NO ONE was complaining about is some titanically stupid business decisioning.
I watched a game the other day and the camera got a close-up shot of a player's name. The letters on the name were already fraying. That is fine for an MLB team but for fans who buy these, it is a rip-off.
It's an old adage but it always rings true if it ain't broke don't fix it because the quote fix always ends up being a disaster and that's what this is a complete unmitigated disaster
It almost seems like they started with the Yankee's uniforms and then made everyone else's design fit. The size of the numbers and the placement of the MLB logo on the backs of the Yankees uniforms look normal without having names. Plus, the Yankee's uniforms don't have any piping on them which looks cheaply applied on the uniforms that have it.
I live pretty close to the former Majestic factory in Eastern Pennsylvania, and have been there, and I know they know what is right, and what is wrong. I am sure the folks on the production line were upset with the "choices" Nike made, smaller name letters, different materials, etc., but there was nothing they could do. I blame Nike, and MLB for this issue, not the folks at the production plant. I have several jerseys from the past, and they are great, I hope this issue gets fixed, and soon.
Can we talk about the Yankees road grays. I get the old school look, I personally love the Cardinals off white alts, but these Yankees jerseys look so cheap.
Institutional arrogance they dont have to listen to anyone in the course of executing and that always ends up like a crap show in every business or organization.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Nike is being cheap. I want Majestic back.
This is why my Cubs jersey is Majestic and I will never buy another jersey probably.
I don't think nike would have ever got the contract, If majestic didn't sell to fanatics.

Just use the old ones. Classic example of finding a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.
If this is on Nike and not Fanatics, they need to lose their license. These are kids' iron-on t-shirt jerseys.
"Little accountability from MLB" - Does MLB even know that word exists?
Mentioned at the end, but MLB should have been aware of this for a while. The jerseys were used in the ASG and no one complained. The Royals also used these for an entire Spring Training
This worries me immensely for NHL sweaters next season... The trend of make it cheap cheap cheap, is alarming. I realize that Nike seems to have designed this failure in MLB, but Fanatics has top to bottom design and production for NHL next season. We will see if this was Nike or Fanatics issue.
Get an adidas one while you can
Luckily next season it won’t be an issue, but in 2025, it will be.
@Milehighmez15 Nay, it's next season. 24-25 season. 23-24 (this season) is last Addidas season.
@@dumbcow1 You’re right about that, but the sweaters aren’t actually changing next year. That’s gonna happen in 2025.
Chafin!! Loved our "chubby reliever" (his words, not mine! 🤣) when he was here in Phoenix!!
Forget it. Keep 'em.
Glad for your efforts on this topic. Thank you.
How are merchandise sales of the new jerseys compared to the old ones? I own a couple of "real" Verlander jerseys from his time with the Tigers, but I'm not motivated to buy a new-style jersey.
Nike has been going downhill for a while. Let us not forget the "tear away" jerseys they implemented in the NBA 😂
Props to keeping up the coverage on this.
Excellent coverage of this-exposure of the different venders and swabs of fabric needs more traction. No more "exploring options" to remedy. ACTION! required. nike must go.
I'd be interested to see what the difference in sales is between this year and last year.
Why not fix it by the all star break…they got more than enough time for all these jerseys to be fixed by then
Talk about falling off the rails.
I love that you're covering this so thoroughly
Nike made my college unis in 2004 as part of an update and the greys were the best quality I have played in.
Perfection.
Yes, the tops were a bit heavy for hot days, but they improved that in 2010s.
Bring back Majestic
Another big issue is some jerseys aren't ready yet. Like Seattle's Sunday (Cream I believe) ones are apparently not going to be worn until May or June when Nike/Fanatics can get them to the club.
Summer is coming... Do the braves have grey jerseys? It gets hot in Atlanta
The fact that there shirts are being darkened by sweat means that the sweat is being absorbed by the material and it’s not wicking away to be evaporated. This can actually hinder performance and not Aid in it.
The Yankees road uniforms looks like a sweat suit
They look awful. I’m glad that the older jerseys on MLB are still available and cheaper than this current crap.
How about the issues of availability? Some teams have not even got their jerseys in-time for games. Also, as an international fan I have to buy my merch online, however most teams only have home jerseys or older uniforms available for purchase.
It's Nike. It's not just players apparel but MLB Staff is having issues this year too.
Went to my first Reds game of the year, sat first row and whoever approved these jerseys should be fired. The names on the back look ridiculously small. They look like the lettering from the women’s jerseys last year. It’s especially bad on players with short names like Cruz, Baty, Diaz, etc.
I had fully planned to buy a jersey but these things are total garbage so it’s not happening
Maybe they consulted Boeing about quality control
Mr. Brazil, let us know if the NHL is going to back out of the Fanatics uniform deal now that MLB is dealing with bad situation.
The plackets on the new jerseys are comically skinny. It’s most noticeable with teams that have them outlined, e.g., Red Sox, Tigers, Mets, Giants, etc.
In the summer time, the light weight jerseys would be nice... but I doubt that's worth having cheap uniforms with a laundry list of problems.
Teams should just be in charge of their own jerseys
The names/numbers on the back look like those from a video game. That’s why they look so cheap and cheesy.
The fact there isn’t one Costanza reference on here is insane
THIS. “Here’s your MLB jersey. It’s just the like the one the fans wear. There’s nothing special about it. Welcome to the Show.”
Let’s not forget that we’re not in summer yet and once humidity rises, these jerseys will be soaked!
They went to cheap high school uniforms. Maybe even middle school type gear
The knockoffs look better than the real ones. People kept asking me where I got mine. Surprised when I told them they weren’t real ones
They look like the iron on uniforms we had in little league only using cheaper fabric lol
Wait…they aren’t even embroidered jerseys? As a fan, I’ve only ever bought embroidered jerseys because those silkscreened ones look cheap
It's an old adage but it always rings true if it ain't broke don't fix it because the quote fix always ends up being a disaster and that's what this is a complete unmitigated disaster
Would love to see MLB return to traditional-style uniforms. No manufactors logos or advertisements just the team patches and league logos.
Ah, so that's why the Padres looked like they were playing in their jam-jams last weekend!
When is MLB going to realise this isn’t going to go away like all of the messes they’ve created
That's corporate America making those decisions to be cheaper not caring about the product
Can we talk about the Yankees road grays. I get the old school look, I personally love the Cardinals off white alts, but these Yankees jerseys look so cheap.
Institutional arrogance they dont have to listen to anyone in the course of executing and that always ends up like a crap show in every business or organization.
I don't know when the trend started for announcers To refer to players by their initials but it needs to stop
Even the pants around the waist don’t give that comfy, well-fitted look.
Harper flat out refused to wear the jerseys the other day. Wore his 2023 jersey. Lol. The unis and city connects are absolutely atrocious.
The only performance benefit is in the shareholders profit margins
