- Orson Welles' infamous advertisements for Paul Masson have gained an infamy on the internet, but no one's really bothered to catalogue them all together, so here they are. All 9 distinct ad spots Welles did for the brand up until they fired him, along with some higher quality versions than those that are more well known, some lesser known ads that you might not have seen before, and the outtakes added at the end which gave these commercials their infamy.

shampagnhasalwaysbeencelebrated for its excellence
The man had a fantastic voice, regardless of age (or sobriety)
0:30 The funny (yet somewhat sad) thing is that Welles had not actually been involved in any theatre work for almost twenty years when that second advert was made.
I think if they aired the drunk Orson Welles shots the wine would have been the next dom champagne! 🥂 😂
The notorious "Ahhh!" commercial ended up being made...using a voiceover and a new piece to camera (likely filmed at a later date.)
I'm trying to find the outtake in which Orson has a tug of war with the director's assistant about a roast chicken. "Give it back. It's mine. I brought it from home." So much funnier than Citizen Kane.
Pretty sure that was from a parody of these commercials than something Orson did himself
Yeah, that was UCB's Midnight Show. Look up "More Drunk Orson Welles Outtakes"
I prefer the drunk takes.😏
All I know is, I want me some damn emerald dry.
A once great star
wont sell himself
before his time.
And those two impeccable yuppies so pleased with themselves.
WOW.... amazing how editing works.
Ever seen Butterfly (1982)?
That film made me drink wine before its time.
Screw you, Paul Masson!
Maaaahhhhh haaaaaaa
Someone call this man a cab.
Cabernet, that is.
I find it interesting that the Weird Al Yankovic song "Dare to Be Stupid" features the line "It's time to sell some wine before its time" in reference to these commercials... and both "Dare to Be Stupid" _and_ Orson Welles were featured in _The Transformers: The Movie_ (1986).
Welles himself said the scripts for these commercials were terrible. Paul Masson wines were considered low-end, and the fancy tone of the ads was a deliberate effort on the part of the company to rebrand, one that Welles thought was in poor taste, after reading them he said "Come on, gentlemen, now really! You have a nice, pleasant little cheap wine here. You haven't gotten the presumption to compare it to a Stradivarius violin. It's odious." That particular script was cut completely because of his refusal to do it.
Not sure if you can still get Paul Masson Chablis...but it was (is?) legitimately good.
Orson dressed like Kiryu at 1:29 lol
watching this shit like a film.
They will sell no wine before IT'S time or before ITS time.
It isn't it's, it's its
@@A.M...... I think the point was that the sentence can read as, "They will sell no wine before it is time," which would not necessarily be its (as in the wine's) time.
@@A.M...... 'Tis.
That poor chair is about to break.
Is that Connie Selleca at 3:47-3:50?
At 5:37' the girl is obviously trying not to giggle.
Where can I buy this wine?
Sadly I think Paul Masson has gone out of business since these commercials were made. You might still be able to find some unopened wine on the second hand market but it'd probably be expensive
I'm a little disappointed there were no fish sticks commercials.
What about Peas?
He did those for radio I think.
I guess H.G. Wells knocked off The War of the Worlds lickety split, unlike MM and GWTW.
Is burgandy wine?
yes it is...
I like the drunken one better. It's more shakespearian to me.
This guy is sooooo drunk!!!!
Futurama brought me here...
