I’m Tasmanian. We don’t mention this monsters name, but thank you for covering that awful awful day.
(You missed the nurse he stabbed with a pair of scissors in prison hospital and the ferry he missed getting on at PA where passengers would have had no escape.)
The hole he left on the island is real and still very raw. The Broad Arrow is gone, replaced by a memorial garden. The bus parking space is now bush and a site focused on boat building, and there is a whole new heavily controlled entrance building. You don’t drive into the site anymore either. He is dead to us. Not one of us anymore. He is a monster.

      This is the problem.
Not gun control. Dr/patient confidentiality goes out the window when someone is deemed a threat to themselves or the community, like in this case. He should have been committed when they had the chance. That doesnt mean locked in a box with the key thrown out, but in a place that can actually work within his means to allow him a harmless, happy life.

It is not and should not be used in defense of crimes whether before, during or after they have been found out.

@@J2thaAMES1 you have an excellent way of phrasing things and your absolutely correct. I'm a big believer in individual rights, and I don't like involving the government unless it's absolutely necessary. However, there are limits.
I don't want to get in to politics too much, but gun control isn't the answer. (In my opinion) Look at how long it took for the police to respond. This individual was mentally unstable and *wanted to murder as many people as possible.*
People like that are almost always going to find a way. They'll use guns, knives, bombs etc. If this mans psychiatrists had taken action- and had been *legally required* to take action- those people would still be alive.
They were sitting ducks. They had no way to defend themselves, or their loved ones when they need to most. All strict gun control really does in the long run, is ensure that the ONLY people who will be armed in these instances, are the murderer and the police. Which might turn out okay. Provide the police are there to respond.

I live in Hobart & I knew Martin. He was a douche of the highest order, we did not like him. He was creepy as buggery but we never imagined he would do that.
This was a really emotional one for me reliving that day, it was fucking intense at the time & the intensity has not lessened much since. Wasn’t at Port Arthur that day due to a flat tyre- the best flat tyre I ever had.

Seriously tho, from one true crime fan to another, I feel the need to defend because I often have a similar reaction when I see new content from my favorite creators on my favorite subjects; true crime & politics.
I love it too. I love the psychology behind it, the duality, the actual process of solving a crime... however, I have my threshold as I imagine most of us do (animals for me) & they're all going to be unique.
I think I understand where you're coming from but I'm not sure making another feel ashamed of or somehow wrong for their interests is the best way to express it, in my opinion that absolutely no one asked for but there it is! 👈🏼 I mean this in the most lighthearted of way. 💙
      - Having been the child victim of some pretty horrendous crimes, I thought I'd be weary of watching dramatized videos of true crime that mirror my own life but it's actually quite the contrary, much to my surprise & the surprise of others who try to shield me from 'triggering' content.
In a weird way, it helps me process.
      - All this just to say we can never really know the roots of another's interests & hobbies. We're all here for the shared interest in true crime altho the reasons for it are wide, varied & nuanced. ✌🏻💚

When the subject was brought up to the parents they made excuses like it is just a phase or he will grow out of it etc... I think the parents don't want to admit that their child needs help and that if there is something wrong it will make them look like bad parents, but neglecting the help they need is what makes them a failure not the kids mental issues. Eventually my relative got the help he needed and is doing much better now but I can see how things could have progressed if left unchecked and I hope these stories fade away eventually as the shift to better mental health and treatment progresses.

These types of rounds actually do less damage if they do not strike bone or a major organ as they can pass straight through the body. The type of rounds that do "mushroom" and fragment are "hollow points". In fact, the Hauge Convention of 1899 prohibits the use of hollow point bullets, which is why if he had military ammunition, they would have been "full metal jacket" rounds.

This is the same round used in M16/M4 full automatic rifles in the military and per the Geneva Convention, this round is the one the military must use in wars.. Bullets use this design to minimize the wound inflicted and to generally not be fatal. It travels in a straight line through a body and unless hitting an organ in generally survivable. It does not fragment to cause more injury or spread out to hit other people. It is also not armor piercing.

This is not a secret. It's not some conspiracy. Intelligence has infiltrated nearly every aspect of our lives; media, Hollywood, music, social media & tech ....
In fact, it's only thru independent journalism that we know most of this, people actually interested in doing the research & sleuthing thru pages upon pages of documents & declasses.
Then they turn it around, coin terms like 'conspiracy theorists' & gaslight the hell out of all of the sheep still tuned into their propaganda.
They can no longer control the narrative due to independent journalism which is why they're so hellbent on silencing them.
I'm not in any way excusing the actions of this monster or even implying the 'conspiracy' is legit (I'd never heard it), however, it's beyond delusional to think that Gov't (administration, intelligence, mainstream media, lobbyists, activists...etc) has not orchestrated these kinds of terrorist & criminal acts.
