- So who has the upper hand in steering the world’s AI development, the US or China? The most powerful artificial intelligence companies and models are concentrated in the US, but there’s no agreement on whose approach is better.

"Noooo don't overtake our precious nation in AI" 😂
What would you rather have, a general AI that is alligned with western liberal democratic values or chinese general AI that is alligned with their style of governance? When I look at China and I see an oppressive social credit system where people are being shamed for their financial status, the treatment of Uyghurs and torture of political dissidents, I know what side I want to win.
@@DantesHQ You know nothing about China. You only repeat things that western media says. Have you been in China?
China doesn't have any advanced AI so no need to worry
still could not imagine big scale manufacturing chips in the US
Interesting exchanges.
(Would have be useful to put the names of interviewed people in the video description)
I came to hear about AI. Instead I receive a series of political polemics and assumptions about China, especially the panel's presumed knowledge of the mind and intentions of Xi. In short, a series of western political statements parading the usual tropes about China.
They even start off saying "China has gone from a Silicon Valley copycat...", not understanding that China is STILL just a copycat. Worse, they're passing off open-source models and even smuggled Intel chips as their own national products.
I felt the same exact way. Thank you for saying what I wanted to say in a very clear and concise way. I hope these people take note of your comment

And rightly so, Xi is a dictator.
This is very clearly a neutral video about AI developments in China and US, so it is about AI, but perhaps the title should be a bit clearer. Helen lived and studied in China for majority of her life while Wong is direct representitve of China.
Kudos on the excellent reporting and the frank exchange of views. This is the transparency we need to navigate our way through historical challenges and combat oppression.
Graphcore has entered the chat. Way more advanced than nvidia.
this was an interesting conversation, thanks ,, but it's been striking to me how there's basically zero discussion of foom risk, of hard takeoff ,, everyone just seems to be assuming that the LLM training trajectory is the fastest one available, but uh, what if it's not, then it could be either the US or China that fooms unpredictably or it could come from anywhere :/
Galanium? Did he mean gallium or germanium?
I loooove Bloomberg Originals.
How is talking about some "China" or "United States" as actors in this game not truly weird?
These are certainly places where stuff happens, but that these are countries which act is surely a notion that needs some circumspection.
Slightly obliquely to this, there seems to me to be a very odd bias in the way these people -- like perhaps most commentators -- assume that actions normally have the results desired by the actors.
When countries are the actors involved, this seems to me a very dubious thing to assume. The 180-degrees polar opposite seems to me much more plausible.
Perhaps AI creators are grappling with what they invented just like the creation of the atomic bomb…sure there are positives but scary about the negatives…
Maybe one day, but true AI doesnt exist yet. When people today talk about AI they are really just talking about machine learning models.
@@dexterrity yes true but this is the impetus for AGI
The main thing pushing this forward is fear of if the other side develops it first.
@@squashduos1258 no reason to think that whatsoever humans are just dumb and easily convinced of things that are just magic tricks
why does this video look 480p even in 1080p?
👀
Because AI doesn't want you to see this video.
Obviously.
😅
Dorks
@07:53 Already have...
What are the big names in AI?
I see
🤔
;)
Me first!
Oh no! Ai might think people are dumb!
Dear Bloomberg correct your title :China AI super power
I am AI
How is the AI of Superpower India?
China ranks first in artificial intelligence patents, reaching 76,876. India ranks tenth, reaching 3,460.
The U.S. has this zero sum mentality which drives this competition, not just in A.I. or semi-conductors, but across all spectrums.
Benevolent AI...let's not be delusional. I mean, did we ever care about bugs? Because we are gonna be bugs to AI.
Africa will be leading the world in AI 10yrs from now
lol nice joke
AI = Aimless infighting
@@nomadv7860 I think Hamas Israel are already number one on that one
@@quantumskull2045 let's wait who will be laughing then
@2:22 "It requires a huge amount of comp..." and then he switches up the conversation. My guy was going to say computing power and then realised the big give away and blunder he was going to make. These computers use unbelievable amounts of power, energy and water which is damaging an already disastrous environment. Innovation at any cost will be the demise of humans and we are watching it in real time
"compute" literally stands for computing power...
Helen toner is the worst!!!!!
The biggest difference between human intelligence and AI is, creativity... Even when a specific machine has the so-called learning capabilities, it is still doing what it is programmed to do. Creativity requires a mental spark, putting what is available to come up with a new solution....In fact, the sparks in a thunderstorm do create amino acids, the fundamental building blocks of life. For computers, even if they have neural networks, they are different from human brains. That is what is going on right now, it could change in in future.
