I'm so happy to hear that I thank you for sharing that I hope he finds some grounding and finds what he wants I want him to come back to music but I wish for his own peace of mind Artists are blessed and cursed by a double edged sw0rd I understand
That is so good to hear. I hope he knows how much he means to people like me that have struggled with addiction and have survived...he is so unbelievably talented.
Absolutely flawless. The story of Travis Meeks breaks my goddamn heart. He looks so healthy here! 😢 He is one of the most profoundly underrated/best musicians of all time.
Didn't he have a good start? I saw him on an intervention repeat, it seems like his issues led to him being unable to work w others and not getting work done.
This is an amazing rendition of this song. What an incredible talent Travis Meeks is. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone handle a Doors song like this. He’s incredible. Unfortunately, just too many demons to overcome. I wish him well, and hope to see him in the future.
Just watched the Intervention featuring Travis. So fucking sad. In addition to this perfect performance, Days' second album was a straight up masterpiece. I hope he revisits this performance and realizes how good life could be for him.
He can pull himself out just as “ not easily “ but attainable just like all of us.. he’s definitely not alone in this struggle.. I still love him and pray for him
He went through a really bad meth addiction, threw it all away, got sober, plays on small stages now. He is from Charlestown Indiana which is 10 miles from my hometown of Hanover Indiana, great musician
@@sizzlethestozzle8885 Soooo glad to hear he’s found his way back from the hell of addiction! Such an amazing artist and beautiful soul! Thanks so much for the update!!!
He fell off from the mainstream light and then got caught up in labels buying each other out and getting caught in the middle of it and not being able to make the music he wanted. He came close to signing with Rick Rubin about 03-04 i think but kinda went his own way as independent and he toured hard doing shows all over the country for several years before he stopped after dealing with his continued addictions that he has dealt with since he was a teen. He got diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at like 28 and that's where a lot of his issues came from was having Autism and not knowing whats wrong with you and using to cope. Last i heard and saw about 2 years ago he looked good and had a smile on his face so i hope he is happy and enjoying his life now.
@@sizzlethestozzle8885 I went to school there for my freshman year of college. I’m curious to know if anyone else thinks there is something off about that area? In terms of occult activity.
Same here!!! But if staying clean means small gigs only, whatever works! As long as he’s alive, slaying the demons one day at a time, and using his tremendous gifts (playing/singing/writing), that’s all that really matters! 🎤🎸🎤🎸
Travis Meeks sounds very closely like Jim Morrison, whom I grew up listening to. Travis is even closer than The Doors Live (and they are pretty good!) Jim Morrison was definitely one of a kind, very very unique, but Travis really embodies that beautiful spirit that Jim had. Thank you for the music!!!
Travis Meeks is absolutely amazing, like always!! He has such a unique voice and afaik there is no better choice as him to join Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore on stage. Together they manage to create a new, exciting and slightly different version of "The End" which is in no way just the standard 1 to 1 copy. They really created a special version of its own and i just love how Travis's beautiful bluesy, angry, strong and melancholic voice is able to capture the intense spirit of the song. 🤘🎶🥰
I can't believe I'm just seeing this now. Incredible! Travis Meeks I thought years ago, had incredible potential, the likes of Cornell. I still hope for his return to greatness. Days of the New is legendary IMO!
Well, for most of them, they didn't have to be all that brave and it wasn't a cover for them since they are the only band that's ever played the song like they do. The only one who's not an original member of the Doors is the singer... And Travis Meeks needed to have some hefty sized balls to stand up there where Jim Morrison used to stand and emerse himself into the that song like he did to deliver the best performance of that or any other Doors song that I'm aware of ever being played since Morrison died.
I saw days of the new cover this song around 2000 at a festival in Detroit. And he did the part... Mother... I want to... And I'm standing at the back of the crowd, and I notice off to my sides a couple people shaking their heads vigorously and gesturing. And then he finishes the line. And these people (managers, promoters, etc) lose their shit. As a 17 year old it was pretty cool. But the festival was never the same after that.
Wonder how he is doing now of days, hope he is clean and healthy, such a talent and so sad to see what the drugs brought him to,this performance is amazing
There was an article years ago where The Doors members talked about doing The End with Travis who was a 20 year old at the time and once he they went to rehearse Kriger said it was instant feeling like that he was the right person for the song. He killed it in this live show at the time and Travis also recorded this song and LA Woman with The Doors on Stoned Immaculate album they did around this same time. Travis even did a few shows singing Doors songs with Robbie on guitar. I used to have a recording from like 2002 that was just Travis Meeks singing and playing his acoustic guitar performing The End. It was incredible to hear it played on acoustic in Travis' own style. about 0:41 you can hear Travis' acoustic guitar playing as the song starts and it has that same similar sound to the solo version he performed
Great Travis Meeks singing and playing with the Doors! I hope this mean something to you Travis. Let go of the other things you do and concentrate on music man. You have a lot to give to humanity. I hope you listen to me and to the people that agree and have the same opinion of mine. Best regards and I hope to see you grow even more. I am waiting for it and I will make you "pay me back". I don't know the correct term right now 'cause I'm portuguese and the term is not ocurring to me right now but one thing I know and that is that your talent is there and you MUST use it to make your life as IT SHOULD BE. I mean compatible with your power as a human being. Hope this words of a junkie like I am reach you in some way. Take a "smelly" hug from me. It is smelly but it has MEANING, OK?
"But .if we kiss the serpent on the lips w no fear it will take us thru the Garden thru the Gate to the 0ther side "- James Douglas Morrison All my love to Travis You're not forgotten

channeling jim morrison but not copying ...immense talent and the guys are super into playing it which tells you how good travis nails the essence a jim here... just sublime like jim travis is a tortured soul...
Amazing performance. I have audio of a few live show that Travis sang this song and even a version with him doing it solo with just an acoustic guitar, its still very impressive.
Mr.Sawdoff1100 I would love to hear the version of Travis performing the end with his acoustic guitar as well!!! Have you posted it? Would it be possible to email it to me?
Travis was a monster A creative genius I've been playing guitar for 30 years and I can puck up origins/influences a few notes into most music. I was never able to do that with DOTN Then I saw this and it was so obvious. This is the end
Galifianakis is holding up his end of the deal lol...Meeks is truly a gem. Hope he's doing well now..was lucky enough to see Days' at the pyramid in 2000
It’s a 6/10, if it doesn’t pack the Morrison emotion all the way through it’s costly. Ultimately you want to listen to it and not be given any clues to it being a cover. One thing for sure is the timing, in this cover there were a few verses too quick, Jim would have given awkward pause as a part of the subconscious mystery in the story.
Travis is doing well, living in Arizona working on his Sobriety. Hoping the best for him in his future endeavors
I'm so happy to hear that I thank you for sharing that
I hope he finds some grounding and finds what he wants I want him to come back to music but I wish for his own peace of mind

Awesome. I hope he returns to making music. WE lost Jim to the same thing. There is no reason for a repeat!
He's welcome in my home in Sierra Vista AZ Anytime!
That is so good to hear. I hope he knows how much he means to people like me that have struggled with addiction and have survived...he is so unbelievably talented.
So glad to hear this one of my favorites from the era
I got to see" The Days of The New "downtown Dallas Tx. I've been a Fan ever since. Love Travis, he's Amazing.!!

I agree 100%....another underrated musical genius
Didn't he have a good start? I saw him on an intervention repeat, it seems like his issues led to him being unable to work w others and not getting work done.
A guy from DOTN left and started a band called Tantric. I remember reading Travis played all the instruments. Shame he didn't take off
Been a Doors fan for 50 years-- this was an excellent rendition.
One of the greatest artists that people might forget... Hopefully we won't
I'm 27 and I greatly appreciate this mans talents. Never ceases to blow my mind!

Who??? The Doors or Travis???
@DynamiteDre96 yeah Kreiger is awesome
Both! But people remember the doors not so much the case with Travis
I couldn’t think of someone better than travis to do jim
Easily the highpoint of Meeks' career. Hard to find a guy more F'd up than Jim Morrison, but the Doors found a way. He does acquit himself well here.

Even at 16/17 Travis had that profound voice, this cover is a gem
OMG Travis you were gonna go so far :( please be ok !! And come back to music we need you
Travis is one my top two favorite vocalist, other being Layne Staley
And they both project their voices so effortlessly. Pure unmatched raw talent! And one is gone and the other … hoping he makes a resurgence someday.
@@jamielynndubinsky1286 yes indeed. i lived for awhile near travis's hometown of charlestown in. so theyre kinda local for me but not lol

You know it's good when manzarek gets into it, he was definitely feeling the vibe
this Travis guy is as good as they get, then a lotta bit better.
He had the Drummer dancing
Fantastic. Didn't even know this existed until now!

2022 hear and I've been watching this video sice 2013. I never tire of watching it. Goosebumps and chills at the ending.
Word. I was fascinated with jimbo for years what a sweet rendering
I hear Jim's voice through Travis's voice. Amazing cover wow!
Travis Meeks is the man. He should have been a huge star but young fame/drugs got the best of him. I hear he's clean and doing well.
I've been watching this for so many years and every time it brings me to tears when he does that ending. Jim lives again .
Another year has gone by and it just brought me to tears again. Travis Meeks was such a talent. Wonder where he is now.
Imagine if Travis and drugs never met. He was such a huge talent back then.
One of the best covers ever! Such heart felt reverence for the Doors and their mystical painfeeled music.
I like this version a lot better than the original. this is beautiful, limitless.
