To be fair, interviews are booked months in advanced. And I'm sure DG has shit booked himself.
lmao
donald was looking at the bigger picture, charlamagne was looking at it through his personal experiences
Antonio Nguyen right!
Exactly
Yeah he’s from a city where the race system isn’t that good. Good for us. Bakersfield, ca. Either that or some of us here just get it. Glad he’s out there helping.
Another example of the narrow bandwidth of comprehension displayed by Charlemagne.
@@Traces13 How... childish keep saying racist this racist that... not knowing he's rich
Gambino is one of the few breakfast club guests who got the best of charlamagne, & didn’t let him misconstrue their message
Too bad charlamagne did not realize because what Childish is saying is way beyond his comprehension
@@DopestDope24 trust me. Charlagmane understands. He plays stupid tho.
@@oeshins you may be right, what’s his goal though?
@@DopestDope24 I mean look at this comment section everyone's pointing out how right donald is and how charlamagne is only seeing part of the picture, I think that's a good thing and if charlamagne did that intentionally I respect that

Strangely, this interview may be the reason he created this is America. Literally he talked about almost everything in this interview that’s in the video

@@blandinelove708 this is from 2014, 4 years before this is America came out
He is so gentle, patient, and non-judgmental. You can tell by the way he talks about people and society (and handles Charlemagne thinking he's right about everything), that he doesn't see himself as better than anyone, and truly listens and values what other's say. Not to mention, he does all of that while being one of the most intelligent and talented people in our generation. 6 years later and most of what he's saying would still be a revelation to the majority.
Someone gets it! Charlemagne was trying to diss him the whole time and Gambino rolled with the punches gracefully
Damn I was pretty hype until i saw this interview was 4 years old lol

😂😭😩😩😩😩 I only noticed after seeing your comment. Bloody Breakfast club. I’m sure Glover won’t be coming back specially after Charlatanmayne accuses him of wanting to be white only cause his wife his white 🤦🏾♀️
Yoooo wtf
"I'm out of place everywhere, I don't think there's any place I really fit in". He's a Genius, that's why.
This man has always been a free thinker. Very inspiring
Donald Glover is having a totally different conversation that went over everyone's head in the room. Charlemagne, in general, is basic. Donald Glover is explaining that we create a culture that someone else owns. Im happy that Donald Glover is firmly rooted in his ideas, so that he can help folks like Charlemagne not have to think about heavy topics. Not all black folk have to understand it but we still need to carry them along. Great convo!
So Andrew thinks black people run shit? How many black billionaires are there? How many CEO's of fortune 500 companies? What percentage of this country's wealth goes through our hands?
Andrew, if you think Glover grew up on a silver spoon and doesnt know what hes talking about and you want to discredit his personal experience and struggle and belittle his attempt to have the mass acknowledge and remember theres a fucking problem. Then youre part of the problem. Take your own damn shades off or gtfo the conversation. Go to Starbucks, enjoy yourself in your fantasy world.
Hes not belittling anything, hes celebrating it and speaking out about the atrocity that there is a glass ceiling on theyre ability to own it, because the majority in power is not theyre color. It happens everyday and the mass is numb to it or biased, and thats the bs hes not down for. The fact that white guy and black guy can walk into Starbucks or some shit looking like hobos and one is a hipster and the other might be trouble, or lost, or both.
@Andrew McGrath He actually went to my high school. He is most definitely "privileged" NOW as a result of his income & status he is not immune to the injustices the color of his skin brings.
Everyone should understand what they believe in

Every point that both brothers made in this video have been heightened since then. CTG: Capitalizing and uplifting black without measuring to white standards DG: It does not matter what your status is a black person, you can still get a good dose of racism.
He has a beautiful soul
This interview was like 5 years ago he doesn’t even think like this anymore. I’m pretty sure he thought like that because being from the South everyone only hung around people that were the same race as themselves and didn’t even really respected people of other races. That’s why in the South there’s white churches black churches and hispanic churches there are no Churches for everyone so to say. Same with schools there’s black schools white schools and hispanic schools. It’s not segregated to the point where you can’t be white and go to a black church or black school but if you do they will treat you like shit for being white. Same applies to if you’re black and you go to a white school they will treat you like shit for being black. Growing up in the Deep South is really the same as being in pre segregation America. The only difference is they are integrated but they will remind you that you aren’t the same race as they are and treat you like garbage for it.
He truly does ♥️
Beautiful & Racist
@312 Made i mean so is everyone? hes just being real
@@theguyfromnowhereoldchanne6242 idr what i said but i do stand by the notion that everyone has internal racist beliefs at some level of the subconcious psyche and good people are those who are able to fight against it. i mean you can disagree with me if you want but tons of psychoanalysts have published papers on it lol.

Bruh seriously. They act like children
@ Genesis Azor I whole heartily agree with you on that!!!
I don't care how old this video is, I wish I could listen to Donald Glover speak for days straight, give me more!
Most black people grow up in predominantly black cultures where we critique each others hair, teeth, clothes etc.
For instance: "Damn man you need a shape up" - Donald Glover has no shape up at ALL, just his natural hair line
"You need to cut that shit off "(in reference to freeform locks) - Donald lets his hair grow naturally
"You got a hole in your clothes" (blacks so eager to rip at each other for trivial shit) - Donald owns his appearance and is not afraid to dress real. We all have flaws and imperfections
This is one of the most free black men you will ever see and is becoming a legend through hard work. Stay you Gambino. I am working to have this same freedom, but you need money and ways to generate lots of money. Also, you can't be sensitive to what others say. Just be yourself.
After Floyd's murder, this interview hit me hard.
Any opinion on charlemagne saying "we are superior"? Everyone got at Terry crews when he implied this is the danger of what will happen.
I had to come back and watch this Video AGAIN...
@Shannon J. Brooks do you not see a problem with the attitude? You're literally becoming what you hate.
Do you think white supremacy is bad because it's wrong to believe a race is superior? Or do you think it's bad because "it's not us"??
Let's say black people were the ethnic majority of USA, and had the "power" in the system. Going around saying "we are superior"? Do you not see a problem with this?
"I'm better than you because of my race".
Dark times we are entering if people are thinking like this? Becoming exactly what we swore to destroy. Insane.
@@CraigFisherman I agree, but I think you kind of misinterpreted Charlemagne. To my understanding he’s basically saying we need to see ourselves as kings and queens as a way to encourage ourselves and instill confidence, to see ourselves as descendants of royalty that are kind of ordained to be great in the world. It’s to get you to see yourself as special, and then maybe you’ll start acting like it and maybe you’ll actually end up someone special bc you fulfilled your self prophecy. It’s a lot less malicious than saying “we are black, thus we are innately better than whites”, that’s the bad stuff that terry crews was talking about. The whole “we are black and thus have more moral authority of over whites bc their ancestors did horrible things to us and whites have had their time to shine”. All in all, I think it’s tricky bc I think when a black person says “we should see ourselves as superior” it should really mean “you should see yourself as superior”. Like there should be no instances where you are baselessly vouching for other black people and saying they are superior just bc they are black and a part of your “we”...that’s wrong.
I believe we lost our way in late 80s and early 90s when we glorify drugs and money. messed up our community.
Trying to jump on that Gambino hype. I see ya'll.
Gerrel Saunders since when and why wouldn't they stay relevant???
A lot of media time tearing down Kanye. 1 WEEK LATER a lot of media time blowing up Gambino. Hmmmmm.
they trying, they trying.
How are they when this was done before "the hype"?
Gerrel Saunders you don’t know how this works, do you?
"You speak so well...no white kid has been told that" STORY OF MY LIFE!!!
are you fucking kidding me? of course "white kids" are told that. people need to realize that they only experience the world through THEIR eyes and ears. you have no idea what other eyes and ears are collecting where you are not.
i am white. i have been told that i speak and write well. because i do.
also, language is a tool for communication. speak well... to who? and language evolves based on who is dominant in a culture. guess who is influencing language and culture all over the world? black people. btw all people are culture vultures. people will consume and adopt what ever is popular in a time. there is a rap genre is korea for christ sakes! the revolution will not be televised.
what they mean is the perceived mentality that black Americans dont speak like that and genuine shock in people
i dont think he meant it to be taken literally.
for example if you come to my country in Africa and speak one of our languages fluently i will definitely be effin surprised and tell that to you.
however in US from what i used to see in the early days, black American have a certain way of talking and always cursing... but tv came along and lots of movies later i saw different side of it and not all African Americans come from the ghetto.
so anyways i was just sharing my experience at how i also learned many years ago that they could speak fluently too and how i understand what that statement means however i think alot of the shock and surprise should have been gone now.
I live this Daily! Bottom line.. I speak English. No Slang, neutral. I am of Latin heritage. I get raised Brows when I speak Spanish. So I dont , much. This is America...
I get told that a lot, I'm white. I'm definitely not against what you're implying but I'm just adding my perspective. A lot of my white friends get told that too. I get what you're saying and I understand, I'm just here to add my perspective as white person.
@@christinab8544 I find that really hard to believe. "A lot of my white friends get told that too." Okay, where and when? By who? Are they saying it a genuine compliment because you used a big word, or was it said with shock because you completed a sentence without using "Urban" language. As a white male, I've been told I speak well in a classroom context, yet never in my life has a stranger come up to me and complimented me for "speaking well".

Charlemagne tried so hard to sound like the smartest person in the room but CG made him look like an idiot
its a conversation not a debate...
How? Gambino was just saying his opinions... Do people actually listen to conversations or just like comments that talk good about their favorite artist
I don’t see how he doesn’t see what gambino is saying about power😂 money, positions, decisions and things black people are prevented from having control over. We can influence the world and still won’t get the check for it which is major.
Glover is basically saying we’re not at the top of the pyramid, we’re not the gatekeepers and decision makers determining who gets let in and who gets the big piece of the pie. For instance, there’s the NBA, with million dollar athletes and endorsements, but then there's the team’s owner, and high level investors and the media conglomerates that make billions and are determining when, where, how, they handle their property. Glover is just saying we as black people should be aware of and try to aim for the top of the pyramid, otherwise we’ll always be susceptible to those at the top and at every other level throughout society, including the perpetual cop that‘s out to diminish and end you for no real reason other than your skin color.
xnyny 2001 exactly! It’s has always been an uneven playing field for blacks. Perfect example would have been “redlining “ in home ownership. But that would have went over Charlemagne’s head too smh he’s slow
I think he's just playing the devils advocate!

Why? Gambino genuinely sounds like an idiot in this
This is actually one of the few times I actually AGREE with Charlemagne. IMO black people ought to stop walking around with a frame of mind of inferiority and envy. And, I think he's right in that the media programs us to think of ourselves as inferior regardless of whether we are or are not. And, I'd say that many black people are way too desperate for gaining respect, privilege, and power from white people when we really don't need anything from them at all. *Just go out there and do you, and don't be so obsessed with what other people think of you. You do not need any validation from society for any greatness you achieve. Stop looking for other people's approval.*

I want more interviews of him. Each one has some gems.
Charlemagne was mad combative in this interview, but I’m sure if they were to interview Gambino again, the conversation would be so different...
Schondra The Writer well I think childish made them feel insecure with him
Not caring about the shit they seem to always care about. Material things and ignorant ass shit and lack of education on community and culture. They’re like middle school intellectually. Honestly
That’s his job. I play devils advocate with people I 100% agree with to get to the foundation/root of the beliefs, more so fortify ones belief. This also allows me to understand and defend others belief whom I don’t necessarily agree with. An insecure person would not like for someone to combat their way of thinking, and Donald seemed to welcome it. He seemed as if this is something he does on a consistent basis. And yes I know this video was old.
"I'm not going to explain my art, it's supposed to be a conversation" damn, reminds me of when he barely said anything when people were interviewing him about This is America
He said in this interview, he does not explain his art. Its only for topic of conversation. Therefore we will never know the true meaning of his view of This is America.
T Will This was a really cheap clickbait move. If you really think about it. Why would Donald (who's already busy as hell) decide to do a full-on, sit down, live interview, mere days into release of such a controversial (and mega trending) music video. Particularly the breakfast club; where Charlamagne and Angela are going to bombard him with a million questions about it.
Donald is a smart dude. Possibly a genius. He knows it's too fresh on our minds to talk about it right now. So he's just sitting back and letting the art+controversy do the talking. Then when the album is about to drop, maybe he'll embark on a mini press tour (of which the BC will likely be passed over) He knows what he's doing.
Master Superblaster this is an old interview. DG in this case is not trying to capitalize on the music video, The Breakfast Club is...

The story at 20:49 makes everything else he says about racism, heartbreaking and true. Yet, he is now a profoundly important public figure. I think he'll look back and see that people can rise up, but no one can't change everyone.
I'm out of place every where. Wow I can relate.
Kendrick Hall Amen!! My life story.
After watching this, it makes so much sense why he endorsed Andrew Yang.
vinni3c and is his creative consultant- all I’m saying is the yang gang is getting some next level swag and music
Thats another reason why im here.
He’s not going to pass Bernie or Biden. It just feels inevitable
@@mikehank2896 yeah man it's sad. Yang gang slaps
Weird.
donald glover is a genius. this interview makes charlamagne look absolutely ridiculous.
Just got clickbaited......
Bryce Manee how? The fucking title says classic. Classic vids are throwbacks
s617 _ calm down it wasn’t that deep just saying thought it was a current video
Damn... its 4 years old but Gambino spoke truth!
I love this man 🙌🏼👏🏼 He's 100% correct about everything he's preaching!! I commend him for talking about it as well. He's very brave & right in the fact that dissecting the topic & talking about it in it's raw, ugly form, his life could be at risk. Polynesian's feel the same way, to be honest. Especially Hawaiians. Kanaka Maoli. This world is heartbreaking & I pray my son's generation will be better regarding race issues 🤍🙏🏼 Can't believe this was 3yrs ago & since then we've had a revolution & slight reform. We still have a long way to go.
this interview is so relevant right now.
I love his sense of humor,he's such a good sport ! "Childish gambino ,more childish than you think " haha 😂
14:10 Thats a quote from the latest Atlanta season 2 episode... 4 years before wow
CHEDDScast deep. Happy you tagged this time of video!
#DonaldGlover has the most eloquent explanation of double consciousness in this interview I’ve ever heard.
