Ive been fighting with a brass adapter on a copper line and could not seal it up. 7-8 wraps of white teflon AND pipe dope did the trick. Thanks for the help.
I used pipe thread installing a natural gas line on a stove for my mother-in-law... I was still a newbie repairman.... anyhow my father-in-law came home to the unmistakable smell of natural gas. He looked at my pipe joints and pulled all the pipe tape off and just used the brush-on thread sealer. He told me to never use tape on any type of gas line always use the brush-on type... which I always have and have never had a threaded pipe leak.
good lord. I was just googling 'why don't pipe threads leak?'. I've been a mechanic for a while and was just wondering about this, and rarely is there a problem. Seems to me, the crest on the male thread has to match the root of the female thread pretty well, otherwise there is a path all along the helix of the crest-root fitup. From the looks of your male thread (can't see in the video that well) -the crest seems squared off too much. Maybe just a poorly made thread cut?
