- In this video I am playing a full session of "Council of Shadows", using the official solo rules that come with the game. And let me tell you: this game is hard!

Interesting Game. But a bit hard in the Solo Mode 😅
I would suggest to take a look at Galactic Era. It’s a nice 4x like Space Game with Euro Elements in it’s core. And Solo Playable in 60-90 Minutes.
Thanks, Manuel and yes, this one is super brutal! Need to check out Galactic Era again. I know that I looked at it but back then it looked a bit „fiddly“.
I like and subscribed at "but ok, i will stop whining now". 😂 I can sympathise with that. Up until now, i've been wearing rose-colored glasses, cause i love this game, but the manual really is bad. :) Fortunately the game is simple enough so that i can fill in the gaps, but for less experienced board game players this sucks. Also everyone whines about the iconography but i've yet to hear about a suggestion what would be better... I didn't have problems with the graphics at least.
Ha - and thanks so much, Tobias! In the end the game is definitely manageable with the rules. It even worked pretty well, when we played the "hardcore" rules the first time, we played the game (basically we HAD to always play three cards). The icons are ok in the end actually...
I just played solo mode again. This time i included the silver cards as well. Luckily i encountered only 1 of them. Next time i will exclude them again xD
This game was much much closer, but in the end the ai had a comfy lead. I focused mainly on settling and thus preventing the ai to score big points. This worked well during the first half of the game. My consumption was always above the ai, allowing me to place my colonies as optimal to prevent scoring as possible and very often the consumption was also just 1 point higher than the ai's consumption. It was looking so good... Until suddenly the ai starts to play mean.
BAM silver card -> Level 2 -> -5 Negative consumption -> In your face...
So my approach for next game will be pretty much the same (prioritizing colonies), but trying to keep consumption low and utilize more buying actions (i really didnt mine many resources or bought many upgrades.
Thanks for sharing, Tobias. I think this is by far the most difficult solo mode/game I ever experienced. Really brutal, but definitely a solid challenge! Of course makes the experience even more satisfying, IF/WHEN you finally pull of a win :-D
Wow - punishing! 😂
„In your face, loser!“ - this really felt embarrassing and I considered myself a decent player (at least multiplayer) ;-)
@@realjplay LOL - yeah, but you "did" set yourself up for a hard go, by including the silver card(s), right?
I didn‘t think it would be that bad! :-D
@@realjplay See, I like watching YOUR videos, because you suffer a tiny bit more than me, when I play, and it makes me feel so much better!
@@joelcole161 @jPlay I also had a similar experience in solo mode (only played it once so far). I did play without the silver cards. It took the AI 2 turns to get to Dark Tech Level I and i think 2 or 3 more turns to win the game. It was so weird. I think they probably rebalanced the game and forgot to fix the automaton.... I does feel like that last version was a bit rushed, considering the MANY misprints (i dont want to list them all) and the not so well written manual...
It is really sad, because i LOVE the game.
