- The New Zealand Fur Seal, or Kekeno. You find your way down to a rocky shore around New Zealand, and there's a good chance you'll come across one of these guys relaxing in the sun. Or, depending on where you are, maybe you'll find a couple hundred of them!
These seals were all filmed around Dunedin, New Zealand. Check out Victory Beach, Taiaroa Head, and Moeraki Lighthouse. If you're in Wellington, try Red Rocks or the Wainuiomata Coast. My personal favourite place to find them is Kaikoura. Absolutely no shortage of these beautiful guys around there!
Filmed on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, with Canon Lenses.

i love these buff seals
Very good.
Whenever I see these, I'm never sure if it's a seal or sea lion. I always thought the visible ears and walking on their flippers was the way to spot sea lions, but it looks like I was wrong.
you were still mostly right! fur seals are much more closely related to sea lions than true seals, they're just called fur seals for some reason.
@@ridley_grace Ok, thanks, that makes sense.
@ridley_grace Eared seals is always a good term to use for fur seals and sea lions.
Awesome! You make such great work. What is your motivation for this new direction? Is it mini-documentaries to advertise your filmography skills? Or as a way to practice documentary filmmaking yourself? Whatever it is I'm staying subscribed.
Thank you so much! As a wildlife guide in New Zealand I've been thinking of this for a wee while as a way to introduce people to all the awesome wildlife we have around the place :)
Actually, the scientific name of the new zealand fur seal is actually Cynophoca forsteri not Arctocephalus forsteri.
Ah... Normality... Just watched a video of thicc seals n they move funny. I like our seals way better... They don't look dumb n cutesy manga... Way more Super Saiyan.
