      Welcome brotha! I would have hidden mine but I like the "raw machine" look. Even my Jeep has the supercharger sticking out of the hood of the Jeep! LOL! I like exposing parts and making it look MACHINE. I also see bikes that have their turbos sticking out in the front and THAT looks BEAST to me! I'm just a guy that loves the mechanical parts of equipment. Hiding it takes away the RAWNESS of it, but I understand how folks love a clean look.
      Most people would mount the compressor behind the battery box. That's the only other place I can see it going on this bike.

      I just ordered an air gauge as well, because I dont know what psi I'm running, and there's a spot where I had it today that's perfect with the amount of bounce versus the amount of firmness. It was like, "...damn!" It was like smoothing out all of the bumps and I'm so used to having the bike bottom out with the 2.75" links I had on there. Air ride is THE WAY!! @@ajmcrae3716 I have to keep posting because there are people out there that actually have 9s that believe they can only use what they are "used to using". Not everyone is an engineer that is willing to test the integrity and tolerance of new ideas on their machines like I am.
      That's how I built my swingarm: engineering and comprehension on what I was doing. I did it on a patio, at that. No garage. A patio and an apartment parking spot in Mesa, AZ before I bought my house.
      We will have people that doubt what we do, and that's ok. There's not been ONE thing in the history of man that had 100% support, yet things were still accomplished by those that went against the grain of doubt. I am that one. Many are just like me, willing to believe the Earth is not flat and will get in a ship and sail to prove what they believe.
      My bike is my ship. I sail the seas with it by using ideas and creations of my own mind, not really caring what the doubters think. People who follow doubters will always stand on the dock, believing the Earth is flat, and that is ok.
      Adventurers don't mind coming back to the dock after years of sailing to see familiar faces. The same faces of doubt they saw when they sailed off will be the same faces of doubt standing on that dock when we get back from sailing.
      Not everyone sails. Some simply sit...in doubt...because it's what they do.

      I think the video for the stop is in the same playlist that this video is in. The M109R playlist, on my channel. I've got the 2007. Still running like a champ! I just had it out the other day for a bit. I rarely ride because I drive so much, and the BATTERY on my remote needs to be replaced. Took me over a good year PLUS to need a battery LOL! These systems kinda work for a while, like a normal key fob remote. But, I think I wanna put the setup on it's own power switch versus always being on. I have to run a trickle charge on it most of the year because if I don't start the bike in maybe 3 weeks, the battery is too low to crank over.

      Thanks, brotha!! I've got a couple of other videos in this playlist regarding the bump stop system I've added. Now I don't worry about it bottoming out if the air ever failed. I do throw it on a trickle charger from time to time because the air system stays ready/active at all times. It doesn't drain a battery if you ride daily, but if you leave it sitting for 2 weeks, it'll drain it to around 10v, and the bike won't start. Jumpe box time!
      Butt it still cruises to this day. Haven't really rode.this winter much, but we all still ride in AZ thru winter.

    How does it feel when you ride? would you do it again with this kit or do something new? Did you ever do a stop so the tire can still roll?

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      I have something in the garage that I ordered that I'm gonna use as a stop. Well, it will still let the bike drop low, but it will allow it to at least roll versus that tire touching the subframe back there. I've just not had time to start pulling the bike apart to start fabricating, but the idea is in my head and the parts are on the table. If it works, PERFECT! LOL! If not, then back to the drawing board.
      And I would use this kit again and again. I've put around 2,100 miles on it and it's a nice ride. If you want a little floatier ride on the highway, it's possible now. When I'm on the streets and need more of an aggressive ride for train tracks, turns, potholes, etc, then I stiffen it up a bit so it's not bouncy. With the airbag being less-firm, you do have the ability to create a cushion/bounce feel - which is perfect for the highways for me. The tire doesn't touch and the ride is low and effortless. You hear the bumps, but you don't feel em anymore.

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  Рік тому +1

      Sup brotha! I've not tested it two-up. I'm around 225lbs and it rides fine for me with full air or with partial air (very comfy for highway riding!). Not knowing the stress point of this strut that Harley uses, you'd have to ask them about the total capacity (if they've ever tested it). I know the bolts won't give out, as they're the same bolts the stock strut has. The only issue would be the integrity of the bag, itself. It's pretty solid to the point where I trust it for myself - but again - I've not put my rear seat back on in years!
      The struts do have a max capacity recommendation, I'm sure. Being an air system, I'd think they'd have tested each bag individually - and them maybe in unison on the Harley during testing.
      The only other way would be to have it tested at a machining place where they can air the bag up and use a press to test the psi at certain levels.
      That's the best advice I could give, seeing that I basically set up most things on my vehicles for testing at what I use them for. That's my extent of knowledge, at this point, brotha!

      And it's actually a pretty dope setup! I kind of surprised myself because I didn't know if it would work or not. I'm always willing to take a chance to see if something will work, as that's the basis of engineering: trial and error.
      Curating the bump stop was essential to being able to have confidence if this thing went out, I could still make it home 😂🤣

    I bought an 2009 M109R, previous owner had installed the lowering kit. But I have noticed when i go over a bump at speed, the rear shock bottoms out. I wonder if this is my fix to that problem.

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      The shock bottoms out when it's fully compressed PLUS adding the lowering links. There's no room for any bounce, so you'll get that "thump" over the bumps. If you adjust the shock to a fully-extended position, that might help with the bottoming out. Usually when guys do lowering links, they compress the shock all the way to give it an even LOWER stance, but they don't take into consideration that they still have to ride it.
      I did 2.75" lowering links with a 310 rear tire, so I was always hitting my tire when going over dips or something in the road. Now, I don't do that. The air strut has enough pressure to firm the rear up enough to prevent it from completely compressing. Or, you can let some air out and give it a more bouncy ride, all based on your preference and the terrain you're going over.
      A few of us guys that actually do mechanical work have this strut. A few that don't know what they're doing have tried, using the wrong equipment or just putting it together wrong - and they didn't get the same results we got. We're all cruising and I'm a little over 2700miles on my setup. No issues yet, and I ride the same as I always have. I haven't rode with a passenger yet, but I rarely ride with passengers on any bike I've had. I prefer to ride alone.

      Rides better with this shock than with the regular M109R shock and 2.75 lowering bones. Whatever you do, keep the stock bones and just add air ride. Don't do the lowering ones. I have to create a bump stop because now the bike sits on the tire when it's completely lowered! Hahaha! Stock bones would prevent that from happening.

      @@joseortega9965 I haven't installed one on my bike yet. The best bet for a stopper at the moment would be to keep the stock llinks on there and don't use lowering links. This will prevent the bike from bottoming out.
      As far as mine goes, it's on 2.75" lowering links and it will sit on the tire until I figure something out, if I wanna keep these links. Otherwise, I"ll go back to stock links and not worry about a stopper.

      Yup. It's a mono shock setup. Make sure you watch the follow-up video to this as well. Shows a few things that I did AFTER the install to help support the setup. I had to create a bump stop because with my 2.75" lowering bones, it does sit on my tire at full deflate. Now it doesn't. I also think I did a video showing how one guy ruined his setup because he installed it backwards. He says he didn't, but there's no way his strut had the damage it had if he did it right. He was saying he was doing cutting and welding and all of that just to make it fit. It doesn't take all that, so I knew he did something backwards.

    How do you like the ride now brother?

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому +1

      Oh, it's a fun setup to mess with on different roads. The highway is like HEAVEN now, especially the sweeping dips where the bike will literally feel like I'm riding on water. Doesn't feel like it should, as I'm used to streetbikes and the hard ride of the 9. This is like a CAR riding down the highway, but louder. LOL!
      And on road where I know it will be a lot of potholes or whatever, the air strut takes the hit and the bike never flinches. If there's a lot of dips or train tracks where the road is raised up, I firm the strut up a bit because going up is easy, but the weight coming down will have the bike hit that 310 back there on the edges. As long as it's firm, it won't touch the tire. If I had a smaller tire - like a 280 that I used to have - I don't think it would touch at all. But the 310 is almost at the chrome frame guards...it's THAT wide back there, and that's where I have to figure something out.
      I have an idea, but it'll be custom for this bike and may not be necessary for a 9 that actually runs a 280 or smaller.
      But yeah, this is like a different bike now. It's not just hopping on and taking off. You can treat it like a horse and be like, "...where we riding, and how do I gotta set you up for it?" LOL! Highways mean less firmness for that luxury feel. Streets are more sport and need that firmness, so I ride a little higher.
      I'll keep you posted on it, tho brotha. I want to be sure to give 9ers as much info as I can before they assume it's for them. It might not be for everybody. I'm only 220lbs and I've not tested with a passenger yet, so that's coming in the Spring.

    Is this the kit you ordered ?

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      I ordered the kit off of ebay for around $200. It looks like it's being sold for around $240 now. Could be due to shipping issues, who knows. But still pretty low of a price for a nice setup. Been riding mine every other night before driving Uber and this thing is SOLID!! Impressed by the durability and the comfort of the ride.
      I ordered an air pressure gauge but I can't get it to work right. I may pick up up the same gauge I have on my Jeep. That one works, and I got it from O'Reilly's for like $8 the other day and it's actually for an air tank - but I set it up under the compressor on the air ride system on my Jeep and it works.
      But as long as you get the kit that looks like the one in the video, it should work.

    how big is the compressor?

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      It's the compressor from an Escalade. If you look at the air ride compressors on Amazon or eBay, those are the units. I just pulled mine off my Escalade since I run a different system on it.

    Where can I get this Kit.
    ? Thanks

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      I think I put it in the description of the video. Not 100% sure because I've done so many videos, so watch the BEWARE video about this install, as well. There was a guy that didn't install his strut the correct way, and he messed up the strut. It has to be installed in the right direction.
      I'm at around 3k miles on my setup and it's still jamming right along! I still haven't found a way to keep it from bottoming out if the air fails, but I've got a kit in the garage to at least allow it to roll without damage if it bottoms out. I'm gonna have to do a video when I install that. It's a roller-kit, basically using my engineering brain to make logical sense to at least not prohibit the tire from rolling. As of now, if it bottoms out on my 310, the wheel won't move without the frame of the bike sitting on the edges of the tire.
      There's a solution for it, but I'm working on it. I'm sure someone with an engineering brain can come up with a solution, as well. This is what we do!

    How does it actually ride?

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  Рік тому

      Depending on how much air I use, either feels like a.comfy car seat wtih a little bounce or a sport strut that takes all the bumps away. I prefer the sport strut feel on streets and the comfy feel in the highway. Reacts faster with the sport feel to turns and leaving lights.

    For me, I simply couldn't trust this unit. If you get an air leak while riding, or the pump fails etc the suspension will drop and the rear wheel is going to lock up. Its cool being able to drop the suspension while parked, but for me I simply couldnt trust it.

    • @MicDropBBQ
      @MicDropBBQ  2 роки тому

      Some people don't trust bikes, period. They'd never ride one.
      We all have our own opinion. Some dont trust air ride, period. Some will never get air ride because of the issue with ALL air ride suspensions being able to fail, then requiring a stop before the bike touches the tire.

      Totally agree..this isvone dangerous bit of kit when they leak..mine went on a 4hr ride..lowered and wrecked the rear tyre...nearly locked up.
      Leave the standard shock in there..

      I installed this exact system on my 2006 M109R and you can't tell I have it, because I mounted the compressor under the battery tray, had to remove the plastic tray and bolt to it from under with rubber bushings.
