Great knife for scout carry in the small of the back.

I edc the Joe Pardu utilitac 2. I learned first hand the ability of the secondary point on a snap cut.
Cutting zip ties a few weeks ago, i made a complacent error and snap cut my forearm.
7 stitches later, and blood everywhere, i saw and felt its absolute wrath.
I learned to be more aware of what i am doing, and what a small, quick motion is capable of doing with this blade design on human tissue.
Its no joke, this design is absolutely effective in its POU.
I have a Cold Steel SRK & Recond Tanto that are basically the same knife. Same steel, size, black coating, handle... Love both.
The tanto's my favorite blade style. And that one you have there looks like a whole lotta knife for around $60!!!
I am HUGE knife-knerd/blade-dork/goofball who likes sharp and pointy things. I’ve been in love with the Japanese blade aesthetic since I first saw it in the ‘80s, and I love the tanto. I carried a couple varieties of the American tanto when I was in the service and all I can say is they just WORK. It’s not even that hard to use them in bushcraft/survival scenarios. Even my Hissatsu can excel at some of those tasks. If you don’t believe me on that last bit, maybe check out some of the late, great Ron Hood’s survival videos and knife designs. The man knew his stuff, and he often used an American tanto point on his choppers.

I have well over 100 knives, but have never owned a tanto. I generally veer away from tactical knives because they tend to have thick blades and are usually very thick behind the edge. Thinner, more slicey blades are more conducive for every day tasks, camping and bushcraft. I’m 52 years old and have never found myself in need of a knife for self defense, even when I was in the Army. Furthermore, I don’t know how to fight with a blade, so it would probably be more of a detriment than an advantage for me in a combative situation. That knife does look cool, but not for me.😊
If you understand the pointy end good into the bad guy.... you know 50% of what you need.
My martial arts teacher always said "If you get into a knife fight you have a 50% chance of dying or getting seriously hurt." Dogs have mauled little children while adults have just watched because they were afraid to get involved. Men need to be ready for life and death. Otherwise everyone is a victim.
@@redfaux74 just because I haven’t been trained to fight with a knife, doesn’t mean I would just stand idly by and let bad things happen. I am net one to back down, but that doesn’t mean I need a tactical knife. I always have a folder and a fixed blade on me, as tools, and if push came to shove they would do the job. Not everyone desires tactical training.
@jonathancupp3686 - I wasn't suggesting you would stand around. And I'm also not suggesting everyone needs a black belt in Ninjitsu. But general knowledge, maybe a few self defense courses couldn't hurt.
I carry 2 six inch folders every day, every where. The Cold Steel Vaquero Grande serrated in my right pocket and the Rajah ll in my left. They are solid, durable and ready for crazy. Crazy is coming. The big thing to remember is 3's. Never just slash once. 3 diff areas in less than one second. Like a "Z". You can't plug 3 areas at one time. You can plug one and keep fighting. But 3.....??? You better get medical attention if you're the attacker and that gives us time to get away. And attack fingers, toes and eyes if you can.

I always appreciate your presentation demeanor. My first experience with a Tanto blade type was visual. Ironically a soon to be young friend was praying at the altar of a church and the knife fell out of his pocket. I found it and he explained the brand and blade nomenclature. That was circa 1998. I've had my Voyager ever sense. I use a Thuringian or "yellow Coticule stone to hone. When I discovered Milwaukee blade assisted knives last year, the tanto version with the serrated blade caused me to give one a try. I love it. For me, having two edges is like having two blades. I find a few spine leading strokes bringing the edge back to almost razor sharp.
Have you ever produced a video of the D2 version of the Milwaukee "Hardline" vs the less expensive spring assist?
Those Milwaukee Hardlines look amazing! I tried to get them to send some for review but they wouldn’t. May try in the future however

2nd cool is important to me as well. It's gotta have its place and POU, but I gotta like looking at and playing with it too😊

Amazing knife
I've owned several US Tantos since I was a teen starting with the Benchmade Stryker, Emerson, Cold Steel, Sog, etc ... I prefer them to the regular Japanese tanto in most regards primarily due to what you pointed out and have always been happy with them. Have you had a look at the Vosteed Thunderbird yet? I'm not a fan of the lock, waiting for their crossbar version, but that modified tanto blade is beautiful.

lthey work for me....while somewhat lacking in "finesse" (maybe), they do the "power thrust" thing REAL well...
While in country I found my knife being abused as a tool more than anything. You rarely have a purpose built tool. The SOG's we were issued are good, light weight knives but not crazy tough. I faired better with a tanto blade for a tool I could abuse in the field. Strong tip and surprisingly useful. Afghanistan and Africa are short on hardware stores to go buy the right tool. Tactical to me means for fighting. Combat is dealing with the eliminants, improvising, logistics, planning and defeating the enemy with a whole lot of Murphy's law at all stages. Weeks of work with maybe a day or two of fighting. I would probably like this particular knife for all that beautiful stuff.

I wear a kabar TDI law enforcement knife with a tanto blade on my plate carrier at work. I chose the tanto style for the same reasons you discussed.
I love the tanto-style too. But for me personal it's a bit difficult, to get the edge for the slice cut really sharp. Can you make a video about this? Would be great!

Well, I'll get it for camping, but not for self defense... It's just too cool and has a great price point not to try it out! LOL
I look at several key points when buying a new knife, one of them being ease of sharpening. The tanto blade is more difficult to quickly sharpen. It looks cool but not practical for my needs.

Mandatory guard, handle grippy and nice size, and love the spear tip. D2 is easy to sharpen. Good points, but I do not buy Communist Chinese knives. Like the channel and the reviews.

If we are speaking Japanese, then the only correct pronunciation would be how it’s said in the Japanese language. In the US we avoid the correct pronunciation because it sounds exactly the same way as the Lone Ranger’s faithful friend, Tonto. Call it as you wish, but it’s a Japanese blade, as such, we should use Japanese pronunciation. As to the blade itself, it’s outstanding, but problematic in urban areas. Police feel the blade is designed to go through body armor. Places against personal protection will call it a combat knife, and yes, I’ve even heard them say assault knife! Check your local laws, and make informed decisions. Great post as always.
