Btw AK Bro, I truly enjoy your witty banter with your reviews. I see some people don’t understand your satirical style but I think you’re one of the best on UA-cam 🙌
I've used a Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto for yrs. now for carpentry & other work tasks. Just upgraded to the S35VN version. I've found the chisel-like tip more useful for a range of tasks a drop point simply couldn't handle. I prefer Cold Steels tanto over the Benchmade, as they got the angle just right for my work. That said, I love a drop point. But for hard use at work, Cold Steels Tanto is for me! Outstanding humor & commentary! Keep it up!
With the Triad Lock, the Espada XL is better than any cuck-company’s fixed blade. That’s what I use at Red Lobster and Applebees. The Rajah II works well as a “gentleman’s knife” if you’re on a hot date at TGI Fridays.
I've been a Tanto Bro since the first minute i saw one. As a mechanic who was frequently in the junkyard and was interested in carrying as few tools into the desert wasteland as possible, it just made sense. I've almost always had a CRKT M16-10KS. Ive probably bought 15 of them over the last 15+ years. I never broke one, but I've lost a bunch and donated them to the freeway.
Hey AKB, I'm feeling a hungering for some more belly laughing from a collaboration video from you and Metal Complex again, feel free to let him know that's what the people want deep down but they just don't mention it that often because they didn't know what's good for them;-🙏
For what it's worth I always had mixed feelings about you, maybe it was the constant sarcasm that started to get to me, I really don't know exactly. Nevertheless that's all in the past now and it was all because of your tenderness and love for cold steel and Andrew demco. I never knew🤷♂️. I welcome you back with open arms.
Some people get really mad about my content. I’ve never fully understood it. It’s supposed to be entertaining- and not for everyone. That’s it. I have very few strong opinions- but it still makes people mad.
I'm kinda a tanto guy, ngl. I dug their mall ninja epicness before I knew anything & now that I know nothing, I still dig them. I have the Kabar Corsair spaceforce folder, which is tanto style because aliens probably have a bony exoskeleton you'd need to penetrate if you had to do whatever space cadets would do if aliens were engaged & needed to be dispatched.
Tanto style tips Don't penetrate as easily as a drop point will though. Tip strength is mainly what you gain from tanto, not increased penetration (stabby-stab ability). They're better at prying, and they won't break as easily as a pointed tip will. Also, you gain a sort of chisel to push with and the secondary V point has its uses. But, you loose the belly curve and thin pointed tip in-line with the handle, which are two of the most important attributes of a lot of tasks.
I also prefer a drop point over the tanto. The way I see it, if a guy goes through the bother of putting on a steel breastplate before fighting me, I probably deserve whatever is coming my way.
The Metal Complex recently gave you a shout out on his community UA-cam community tab doodad. I’m subbed to ya both already but it was still pretty cool. An since you mentioned it, if you’re gonna hate yourself, then let it be just enough to push you to become the Advanced Knife Bro you were destined to be….

I'm sure tantos are great for opening boxes, Amazon packages and other mall ninja tactical stuff, but it's virtually useless in an outdoors application like hunting or fishing. I'll stick with the drop, or clip point knives, thanks.

I thought about cutting it out. Oh well. I have cut out a lot of rants over the years... and most of the time I remember to remove them from the script. Most knife bros don't edit like I do... so I have time to think about if it should stay in or go. Nowadays there are so many knives no one would think twice about it... everything looks like everything.
Yup, the word "tanto" means short blade in Japanese. It never characterized any particular point type, only the length that had to be within 1 shaku. The point was really up to what the smith had in mind for the blade he was crafting, and it could differ from order to order.
About the same. On the drop point Timestamps at 557 and 649 are all after the batoning and stump throwing. Also it isn't closeup but the comparison at 905 shows both knives after all the use seen in the video.
I’m a half Japanese man, that was raised by a Japanese woman. You pronounced the cutting edge and the forward edge perfectly- if you really want to sound like a pro, you can also pronounce “tanto,” as “tahn-tō.” You also described why the “tanto” is an elusive term and kind of subjective (it’s a term that formed and without rules or reason). We could argue over the shape, the history, etc for ages … at least you didn’t call a wharnecliffe (cough bemnchmade) a reverse tanto lol. Again, kidding, they can call it what they like but reversed would be backwards, not upside down, so that one makes less sense to me, but I get it. Sorry to rant about trivial items here. I love your reviews, and have for years. Your sarcasm and dry humor are better than coffee.
I need to make sure I fuck up the pronunciation on some things, otherwise I'll be held to too high a standard. When I say it like dumb in Spanish, all I think is dumb in Spanish. However yes, there is a lot of confusing, and contradictory diagrams and definitions on Japanese swords. One thing is for certain what we now refer to as a tanto didn't seem to have much connection to the actual tanto. It's like calling an apple fruit an apple leaf.
It is reversed. The angle from spine to tip is how it's classified as it's angled the opposite way to a Tanto. The tip isn't "backwards", because that's impossible.
The worst thing is that the designation tanto is wrong, because it means a short sword, and these were worn by samurai behind their waists and did not have such an edge on the blade at all. They had a smoothly rounded blade at the end.
HOW'D YA GET THE SOUND BITES OF ME BROWN NOSIN'??? After about two months of rotatin', my schedule has a "wellness" block built into it today. I woke up at 4 am. I couldn't sleep. Granting your point on "Tanto" being a type of knife, or short sword for you sticklers out there, I would argue that the term "American Tanto," while it may have a bastardized origin, is indeed specific to a specific blade type. Outside of that, there are the arguments of common use/understanding/slang. And Fallkniven absolutely ripped off both The SRK and The Trailmaster! They just gave beefed up the tangs and exposed them (which I absolutely prefer), and used materials better suited for the sub-arctic climate they have to contend with. Once The Modern Bowie started selling pretty well, Cold Steel made the more premium versions of The Trailmaster, as well my favorite, The Recon Scout. Now if Fallkniven would only stop making those crap sheaths!
I’m not disagreeing that American tanto is now a type of blade. That’s what it is now. It’s just that the American tantos design origins are not from the tanto at all. So what it means now has nothing to do with what it meant before the 70s. That’s all.

Nice Calvin and Hobbes set there at the end
I made my SAK into a tanto. Yup that's right bro...
Man truly lives the tanto life style
I'm an American tanto Crocks guy. 🇺🇸
Murder Masterpieces.🤣 Advanced Knife Bro, awesome alliteration. 👍
Your voice overs are 100% top notch! Funny as hell and always put together a video that I watch from start to finish!

Didn’t think covid still existed since Ukraine..

Tanto for a self defense knife, Drop point for a general purpose use knife.
Tanto looks cook but I would pick the Drop point.
Hoping they do a magnacut version in blue, because I'm the kind of knife bro that has steel AND color preferences
Came for the knives. Stayed for the hair. 🍻❤️
Great vid....thank u for the tanto vs drop point comparison..."American Tanto" kaw kaw !!!!
Love it!!! Great vid!!!
The ONE guy who pronounces ambidextrous correctly.
It was pointed out I say tanto wrong.
In the end, it all comes down to just the tip. Literally. 😂
I dont understand why CS doesn't make their SRK in Aus 10a. It seems really tough.

I made a tanto sword. They are very small compared to a long sword.

I had a cousin who had a thick spine and was built for dumb stuff.
Drop Point. No contest
I prefer a tanto for hard use but I am a trim carpenter & I do a lot of stabbing and scraping with my edc. Lol
Spear point for me. Tanto is good for stabbing through car hoods and doors but as an outdoor knife, not so much.
I'm gonna be the douche, here: tantos weren't swords; they were big knives, but the shortsword was the wakizashi . . . I'll see myself out.
Well the are called small swords in many places- although I would not refer to them as such. So I agree.
Oh “bless your heart”, southern for I’m sorry your momma dropped you on your head as a baby 😂
Curl some wood, fire steel start a fire, then…
Smash it out with your bare hand!😂

@AdvancedKnifeBro shoot, you just sold me. Demko should pay you, lol.
Make sure you follow me on instagram... if you have it. I'll be doing a giveaway of the Tanto at some point in the near future.
I have no use for a tanto knife.
Asking myself these questions makes me fart 🤔
It’s not tan toe, tanto like the Lone Ranger’s boyfriend
Then people would think I was referring to the lone rangers boyfriend.
Why can’t any of these knife people pronounce tanto correctly? It’s not Tan Toe. It’s TAHN TOE. Like Lone Ranger’s buddy.
I can’t believe you’re the only one pronouncing it correctly. Congrats bro.

I'll show myself out.
Too bad he can’t pronounce the word correctly.
Tanto looks cooler but I will always pick drop point
Me too. Not into knife fighting.
It depends , I like both.
I agree, Tanto blades are cool but the drop point is more practical and can still slice and pierce good. I love Clip point too though.
Bought a tanto and don't love it. Just glad it has some serrations so it's not totally useless.
I too, rarely have the opportunity to breach a foes armor with my knife these days 😢
I tried to chop along with you, but i clipped myself in the junk. Shouldna been watching the wood instead of my phone.
tanto clip bait gets me everytime

You remain my favorite knife reviewer.
And no one ever has a nice meal at the Red Lobster.
I’m confused. Could you do an additional 10 minutes on what a “Tanto” is again? 😂
Nothing like just smacking it against a stump. Telling mother nature who is the boss. That's real American freedom right there.
I like the Demko Flavored reviews, especially one with tanto-splaining and the knife guy socratic dialouge.
I have some custom made Tanto Crocs which I've recently used to pierce the armour of my many enemies. In a flurry of toe based kicks.
I thought about getting a trailer hitch for my Mazda, but you're right - I'm not gonna be fooling anyone.

always drop point. I don't want to sharpen two different edges. Aint nobody got time fo dat
