im surprised they chose the japanese versions of p1 and p2 ps1 versions specifically so that u wouldn't be able to read the poems in their intros! Missing a lot of the artistry sadly, not sure why they did u like that.

The Arena games have a pretty good story and it also expands on the lore a bit. It's also worth seeing the aged up Persona 3 cast interact with the Persona 4 cast in canon. The Q games are technically canon too but the characters get memory wiped as to not interfere with their own games' stories in any way, but the Arena games happen after Golden chronologically. Persona 4 Arena and ULTIMAX are two separate games, ULTIMAX just adds in more of the Persona 3 cast while making the story pick up right from where Persona 4 Arena's left off. Also Elizabeth is wild, I don't remember if you ever saw her secret boss fight in P3R but she doesn't fuck around lmaoo. The main Persona she uses in Arena is Thanatos

Persona 4 theme is acceptance of yourself
Persona 2 isnt just about rumors becoming real lmao, it has a deeper message: "They're about making mistakes and dealing with the regret of those mistakes. Also, a big part of the story is based around words having power, with the idea of rumors becoming reality meaning what you say has weight."

@@Animewatcher352 They were a bit rude about it but they were right, rumors becoming real isnt really a theme as much as it is the central plot. That's like saying persona 4's theme is "going into the tv to stop a serial killer"

@@Animewatcher352 I'm just saying themes are different than the plot. themes are like the overall message and what you're supposed to feel from the story while the plot is whats actually happening. Persona 3's theme is death and the acceptance of it while it's main plot is about the dark hour and exterminating shadows.
They say P4 is getting a P3R style remake, and P2 IS and EP are getting remakes in a different style

We as the audience don’t even have the full intent of it as a lot of the pieces of what he’s feeling is in novels and side games that may be lost to time lol.
Persona up till 3 was still very Shin Megami Tensei, after that Persona started to actually be different from SMT from what i remember. Also Persona 1 and i believe both parts of Persona 2 came to the west, tho if i remember right one of the parts of 2 was only available on the PSP. Persona 2 innocent Sin and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment are two halfs of the same story, they are a duology.
So just a quick explanation of the original Persona games. I know there's a bit of a barrier to entry but I like telling people the basic plots so it may entice them to at least try even if it isn't for them
- Persona 1- in the town of Mikage-Cho, a group of teenagers play the Persona game and are given the power of Persona by a god-like being named Philemon. From there they have to stop an event known as the Eternal Night and save their school and right after that, save the world from Takahisa Kandori who wants to become God and eradicate humanity (these are two seperate storylines in game but they canonically happen back-to-back)
- Persona 2: Innocent Sin- In Sumaru City, rumors have begun coming true. The most popular is the Joker game where if you call your own cell number, the Joker will come and grant your wish. When our group tries this though, Joker attacks them and is going to kill them until he realizes they don't remember why he hates them. Now they must survive and onslaught of demons, Nazis and more while uncovering the sin they committed ten years ago
-Persona 2: Eternal Punishment: Set in an alternate timeline where Innocent Sin didn't happen, Maya Amano investigates the Joker murders where someone can call their own cell and order a hit for Joker to carry out. Maya with the help of a new group of Persona users and Tatsuya (the protagonist of Innocent Sin) search for the truth behind the Joker Killings, leading them to a group hellbent on ending the world outside of Sumaru
It's not Joker game but Persona game, it is based on Bloody Mary I guess.

In the Enternal Punishment timeline the events of Innocent did happen, only that it wasn't in that timeline, but if Innocent Sin events didn't happen the Eternal Punishment timeline wouldn't exist

That being said if you're going to do persona again, I'd recommend persona 4 golden, whether or not you do the other stuff is up to you but I do also recommend persona 5 strikers, once again up to you, and yes every spin off is canon

Honestly I would be careful about holding out for another Persona 4 remake. Technically Golden was the equivalent of Royal for Persona 5 so I'm not sure if they would remake it or not.

Fun protogen fact: P4 is the most tame in terms of persona summoning, as 5 implies you rip a piece of your face off and 3 states the gun forces the persona out by faking death. Protogen out!
Fun fact, Persona actually took inspiration from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with their Stands
If you get the chance, I'd recommend the Arena games as well as they do actually have pretty solid plots; that said the first Persona 4 Arena is very... Fighting game plot setup? So there's a ton of routes which are very similar and none of them are fully canon but all of them include stuff that gets referenced in the much more linear sequel so...Yeah... XD
Fortunately the second P4 Arena game, P4 Arena Ultimax is set up to be MUCH easier to work out what is canon plotwise (it's the P4 route. The P3 route mostly exists to be very cool and to tease us all with P3/P4/PQ friendship dynamics that sadly don't get to stay canon even though I wish they were -Naoto and Kanji may technically only be a year older than him but aaa I want them to adopt Ken so bad- XDDD)
Would also recommend playing the Arena games roughly around the same time as Persona Q, partly because P4 elements are very heavy in both of them but also because I'm like 90% positive the Arena games have a tiny subtle connection to PQ and it's probably much easier to spot if you play the games close together~
