The single greatest thing on UA-cam right now. I never imagined as a 14/15 year old deadhead in 1990 that I’d ever get to hear the stories of the band and family that, without a shadow of a doubt, changed my life. There’s me before I got on the bus , and the me after. Everything changed. We appreciate this stuff more than you can imagine. And I know you have a great imagination!!

I saw an interview with Owsley where he talked about the amplifiers going haywire when DMT was near them. From what I gathered he was as baffled by it as anyone else. That's about the only thing that Bear couldn't figure out, wasn't it?

Thank you for doing this ! I'm loving the stories. I'm hoping you spend an episode talking about Pigpen. It would be fun to have an episode where you share some stories about other performers around the scene like Janis, Quicksilver, Crosby, Normal and the Airplane/Hot Tuna, etc.
Any memories of The Monterey Pop Festival ?? Looking forward to many more great stories !

McIntosh Amps are the best. It takes some skills to wire them properly. Steve, you and Healy always made the boys sound great. I even got to talk to Candace in the intermission right after the band busted out "Unbroken Chain" in Philly in March 1995. Candace was telling me the "band members" were less than careful with the new spotlight remotes they had, at the time. She was really cool. Hope she is still boppin'.

When the stage was swept before the cables cases rugs mic stands and all the pedals and monitors were deployed. In that moment the stage became a sovereign sacred launching pad that extended to the far walls and fences of whatever venue was to be filled with advanced adventurous heads to the novice initiates.
As guardian of the sanctity and sovereignty of that space creating and preserving it unseen by patrons was the duty assumed by Big Steve. Thus cleared with a nod from Ram Rod, Robbie Taylor would crack the whip and by the numbers out came the cases trusses lights fly rigging scrims risers delay tower rigging as the Morpheus Lights Ultra Sound and GD equipment wranglers deployed with precision the audio and visual gear required to do the magic.
When local help was needed always the union was called and imported to the venue if it was a non union house.
So much to do before the doors opened. I got to hear Dan Healy's sound theory lecture many times.

I have a couple questions I asked Bear years ago and he said you'd probably know the answers...............In the gatefold stage photo of the Big Brother "Cheap Thrills" album you can see their Fender speaker cabs are all tied together with a rope. I've seen that in a couple other photos as well. Do you know why that was done? All I can figure is it was either to get a more solid sound from the cabs by having them tied together or it was to facilitate load out, setup, teardown and load up.
Also, do you know what kind of fuzztone Garcia was using on "Anthem Of The Sun" and "Live Dead"? Thanks!!! Dig your show!!!

In the first three minutes you, Steve Parrish, say that the speckles mansion was owned by Gavin Arthur. That is incorrect, my friend. The the Spreckles mansion was owned by Gene and Sarah Esterbu. Gene Esterbu built a recording studio in the attic on the third floor. He recorded some of the dead music there and he also recorded an album for John Paul Pickens.
Graham Nash moved into the house, just south of the Spreckles mansion in 1968.
David Crosby did not live in the house north of the Spreckles mansion. David Crosby never lived in the Haight Ashbury district. He lived in Marin county.
In the 1990s, Danny Glover, the Hollywood movie actor, who had grown up here in the Haight Ashbury district owned the speckles mansion. He recently sold it to the family that owns Juhl
    the vaping company from Chicago.
I should know because in 1967 my wife and I owned a boutique on Haight in gear..

I know that Danny Glover lived there and owned it for a while and I know Joby lives there but I was protecting his privacy. I met Gavin Arthur there and didn't know who owned it at that time. Thanks for watching and getting down on the details.
