Understood the whole situation from the beginning. She never stated anything that was suspect, or questionable, but instead hysteria ran with it. She got thrown under the bus with ESPN pandering to the times. Still, its nice to see that the contractual gag order is no longer pertinent and shes free to speak on it.

I’m a black man and I heard Rachel’s comments. She wasn’t being racist. She was frustrated having an opportunity unjustly taken away from her that she worked hard for. We would all be upset in that situation. Most of the people that worked with Rachel over the years have said she’s a genuine person. Rachel was extremely good at her job and I liked watching her show. This nonsense was on ESPN.

If you listen to the audio when she was secretly being recorded, Nichols could have easily been referring to Maria Taylor being included in the NBA coverage taking the place of another male on the broadcast opposed to her spot which was contractually agreed upon....the media however spun this in a way of Nichols complaining about Taylor taking her spot for the "sake of diversity" which was not the case whatsoever.
I always felt like she was the best bball analyst on the network because she never hated on anyone. She presented every story in a positive and fun light. Kinda like Ahmad Rashad. All these other folks are horrible. Ignorant. And hateful. With the exception of Jalen Rose.

I stopped watching ESPN in my house about 9 years ago. I use to have ESPN on every TV day and night until the Ray Ricse situation. I began to realize what ESPN was and how sports leagues particularly the NFL uses ESPN to blackball players. Ray made a horrible mistake. It was address by the law and in court. As of today Ray Rice record is clear and clean. It does not excuse his behavior that day with his now wife. They're still happy and married and as they both said nothing like that ever happened before and so far after, or we all would have heard about it by now. It was a mistake, but ESPN helped the NFL to blackball Ray Rice. T.O. was blackballed becauee he said negative truths about his QBs. T.O. never had off the field issues with the law, no drugs or alcohol issues and never beat or assaulted a woman. T.O. was made out to be a monster by ESPN and stupid people fed into it. They try to do the same with OBJ. The guy is not a bad person. Never had any issues with the law but ESPN has turned OBJ into a Monster the same way they did T.O.

I remember at the time, no one in the comments of any video I saw thought she was racist. She was clearly pissed off that her job was being threatened, not because she was bad at her job but because of politics and diversity metrics. That was her point. I admit that initially I turned against Rachel, until I heard the actual audio clip of what she said and to be honest, she had a right to be upset at ESPN. Nothing against Maria Taylor at all here but it wasn't fair to make a knee jerk reaction based on an article about the lack of diversity at the network. ESPN could have handled this much better than it did.
This shows you how easy it is to pass judgement on someone without giving them the benefit of doubt. If you want to know about someone ask them.
