🇵🇷 Greetings from PR. Very interesting video. I learned some new information today and I am doing more research on the topic. We, the people of Puerto Rico, cherish our American US citizenship (1917), however, our ethnicity and culture precedes it by 425 years.
We are also proud of our centuries long, unique, rich, strong and beautiful culture. We may have accomodated to
126 years of US influence but our identity and contributions as a world nation are undeniable. Thank you 🇵🇷🇺🇲

Hi, thank you for another informative video. I live in Spain and work with immigration, so I can say that whether or not Puerto Rican citizenship can qualify for the 2 year path to Citizenship here is very much dependent on the Judge which will rule on your case. In general, one must be born in Latin America (including Puerto Rico), Philippines, Andorra, Portugal in order to qualify for the expedited route to citizenship in Spain. While I am aware numerous instances of citizens of Latin America by naturalisation being granted citizenship after 2 years, I have yet to encounter, or hear of anyone, who has obtained Puerto Rican citizenship by naturalisation (therefore outside of jus soli) and qualified for the 2 year route here.

Does this limitation apply if your grandparent were born in Puerto Rico; particularly in the time before the US granted citizenship to Puerto Ricans? My mother parents were both born in Puerto RIco in 1909. I had heard that Spain grants an exception for that time period as those born in PR during that time could request Spanish Citizenship.

There's no such thing as a puertorrican citizenship, it was abolished by the Jones Saffron act of 1917 since it was a stopgap measure so it would give time to congress to determine what they wanted to do with Puerto Rico. The Jones law specifically gave pricans us citizenship and stripped them of prican citizenship while at it, in fact just less than 1,000 individuals forgo their right of becoming a us citizen and became stateless at that moment and lived the remainder of their days without any benefits or access to the rights of a us citizen....

I afree totally with the previous comment! My husband was born in Puerto Rico. A year and a half ago we moved to Maunabo from the states to be closer to his family. The lighthouse in this video that has a large rectangular base is in Maunabo. The black sand beach is to the right (lower part of this video) of the lighthouse and the beautiful nature preserve beach is to the left. (upper part of the video) It is obvious that ALL the other images in this video do not come from Puerto Rico simply because Puerto Rico doesn't have any area that has a desert climate.. Yes, the southwest area of the island, the Cabo Rojo area, is considered a tropical desert but it is VERY easy to see that the images in the video do not depict such a biosphere!
Ugh, Puerto Rico, with its people and culture, is an amazing place to live! I was born in the States but, as a liberal person, I much prefer Puerto Rico. The culture iin Puerto Rico is much more similar to Europe than the US. It is really only in San Juan where you would get a feeling of U.S. influence on society. That is simply because it is the biggest city on the island. The society in San Juan is HEAVILY influenced by NYC and New England simply because of people from the island moving to that area in big numbers when U.S. policy made life miserable on the island. There are more Puerto Ricans living in the States than on the island!
Unfortunately, it is a simple lack of understanding PR's history that allowed the creator of this video to overlook the obvious mistakes in imagery. It's kind of offensive in the same way that doing a video on Los Angeles and showing images of New York would be. Honestly, Puerto Rico is one of a few places on the planet that exists under colonial rule. When you think about it, EVERYONE in the U.S. should be upset on how U.S. citizens here are, by definition, second class. The only real reason that is is because of racist ideas from the Insular Cases decided by the Supreme Court that were decided over 100 years ago that are still enforced today. That is a part of the reason Puerto Rico offers citizenship that allows for sped up citizenship in Spain. Ultimately, the U.S. Government has little desire to make Puerto Ricans on the island equal.
Honestly, how messed up is it that it is ONLY when Puerto Ricans move to the U.S. that they are treated equally!?! The racism is obvious since I am a white guy born in Nebraska, yet, it is ONLY because I chose to I live in PR that I no longer am considered a first class citizen. Sad to say but the U.S. government is basically saying that since I decided to marry out of my race and embrace their culture, I deserve losing my rights. Where else does that happen?
You can say I'm wrong but just look at the real history of the territories the U.S. gained control over after the Spanish-American war. The islands in the Pacific and PR were all treated differently because of racism and how easily the U.S. could exploit a lesser class of people and their land. How else can you explain why the Philippines was allowed independence from the U.S.? The U.S. didn't grant Filipinos U.S. citizenship unless they could prove that their mother was knocked up by a U.S. servicemember or U.S. citizen. Even to this day there are Filipinos still trying to prove their father was in the U.S. military so that they can legally claim U.S. citizenship! Also, people from Samoa are not born U.S. citizens even though were born in a U.S. territory just like Puerto Rico. They have to apply for citizenship even though the U.S. has complete control over their lives!!! In that sense, I guess us Puerto Rican residents are lucky that the U.S. was only a LITTLE BIT racist when granting citizenship. It's all a bunch of insanity!!!

This "dual citizenship" probably was the same for Chinese having born in Hong Kong, when this part of China was occupied by England.
Beyond the fact of the benefits, for some people to have dual citizenship, comes the issue of the obligations with this second state.
A lot of Puerto Ricans had to serve in Vietnam (when conscription was mandatory in USA) and I'm sure many didn't like that particular "duty" too much.
There are other things that Puerto Ricans don't have a say, such as being able to elect their own candidates in the island; if for whatever reason the USA government doesn't like them, they can not run to be candidates, which is, more or less, what they do all over the world. The difference is that the Americans don't have to send their navy to Puerto Rico, as they regularly do to bully foreign nations.
Today having BRICS as a very interesting option for the so called developing countries, keeps Puerto Rico away from that choice simply because it is an associated state of the USA.
    Nice eh?
    Greetings from Toronto.

As of 2017 there are 6.8 million US adults with dual citizenship; actually, US have no restrictions on obtaining multiple citizenships. US doesn't recognize the Puerto Rican citizenship certificate, but Spain does. The certificate is for people born in the island and their descendants in the states. However, to enter or leave the US all nationals with dual citizenship most do it with the American passport but once outside the US boundaries other countries laws apply, that's why you could apply for the Spanish citizenship since the Spanish government recognizes the certificate and the US has no saying in Spain.

No, moving from the United States to Puerto Rico and obtaining Puerto Rican residency will not automatically make you eligible for the two-year citizenship rule in Spain. The two-year rule applies to individuals who are nationals of Puerto Rico by birth or have direct ties to Puerto Rico as a former Spanish colony.
If you are born in Puerto Rico, you are considered a U.S. citizen by birth, but your eligibility for Spain’s two-year rule comes from Puerto Rico’s status as a former Spanish colony. If you were born in the U.S. mainland or another country and then move to Puerto Rico, you would not qualify for this rule unless you can claim birth or ancestry ties to Puerto Rico.
In short, if you were not born in Puerto Rico or cannot establish a direct connection to Puerto Rican nationality, simply residing there won’t grant you access to Spain’s special two-year citizenship residency rule. You would typically be subject to Spain's standard 10-year residency requirement.

      @frankrivera4625 You are wrong.
Nationality and citizenship are two distinct legal concepts. There is no Puerto Rican nationality. There is however two citizenships, USA citizenship and a separate Puerto Rican citizenship.
For example, in all Spanish passports, it is written nationality: Spanish. The requirement for a Spanish passport is Spanish citizenship (not nationality).
The requirement for a United States passport is the United States nationality (not the citizenship). In all US passports, it is written, nationality: United States of America.
That's why American Samoans travel with US passports that clearly state in their US passport, "The holder of this passport is a USA National NOT a United States citizen."
Citizenship of Puerto Rico does meet the standards of Spain for the 2 year fast track to Spanish citizenship. However, it is not a legal nationality. The citizenship of Puerto Rico does not grant Puerto Rican nationality.

Spain allows citizens from certain countries to apply for citizenship after just two years of legal residency. These countries primarily include former Spanish colonies in Latin America, as well as a few others. The list of countries whose citizens can apply for Spanish citizenship after two years of residency includes:
    1. **Latin American countries** (former Spanish colonies):

    - **Philippines** (a former Spanish colony in Asia)
    - **Portugal**
    - **Sephardic Jews** of Spanish origin (under specific historical and cultural provisions)

I can’t say I’m Latino because when I’m outside the country, everybody call me gringo. Ha! I guess it’s because I was born here that makes me gringo and not Latino like my parents. As far as Puerto Rico, definitely a beautiful island with great beaches.

It is not “bolony” that citizenship has been available in different forms and different periods of time since the 1800s when Puerto Rico was still “un territorio Español de ultramar” Yo lo aprendí en escuela pública de PR. Y lo confirme cuando viví en España. This is all good information. Many Puerto Ricans in the island have it. I believe that you apply in the Department of State in San Juan. In order to obtain your Spaniard Passport you need to present the PR Citizenship Certification.

Yes it's a bunch of baloney since puertorrican citizenship was abolished by the Jones Saffron act of 1917 and PR doesn't have the sovereignty required to issue passports or Puertorrican citizenship certificates what you really get from the state department is a residency certificate not a citizenship certification, stop spreading baseless information, the fact is that pr is a USA colony and that's it plain and simple!

Well, don't count on expediting anything if you are one of those CONUS pseudo-puertorrican descendants who can't speak fluent Spanish.
Also, the bit about income taxes is misleading. We pay a rather heavy local income tax, as well as the highest sale tax in the whole US+territories, and are basically skinned alive by the requirement to use the US merchant marine exclusively for anything coming from the US (which is most of anything).
Also, dude! Most of those shots are not from anywhere in Puerto Rico. Are a Tropical Island or what?

Is Written In The Constitution, Is A State Citizen, And A United States Citizen. That Is Very Important.

I disagree with this depiction of a Cultural and symbolic citizenship that exist in the imagination of those who want to become a separate sovereign nation . Anything to distract the attention motivate by the fear that the island may become a state .
People in Puerto Rico do not waste their time trying to try to prove that there is a separate citizenship a piece of paper that serves no purpose since our birth certificates is what matters and it tells you that that is where you were born.
Five million Puerto Ricans out of the territory have proven that they don't need a cultural or symbolic citizenship and the fact of the matter is that when that certificate was issued it never had the impact that the separatist expected because this is a political agenda and Puerto Rico have rejected independence over and over and is not willing to play this so called cultural game fabricated by the left , risking what they already have by birth .

Puerto Rican Citizenship means NOTHING, it's a ripoff since people have to pay for such "certificate". There is NO Puertorrican Embassy,, Currency, Military, or any diplomatic arrangements between PR and any other country. The so-called advantage to get a Spaniard Citizenship has nothing to do with getting the certificate. Th 2 year Spaniard Citizenship applies to people of any country which had been at some point conquered by Spain, therefore the Puertorrican Citizenship is a bogus concept. WE ARE PUERTORRICAN EVEN IF BORN ON THE MOON, DON"T YOU FORGET IT!
