US Citizenship and Puerto Rico Nationality...he who is born in the United States, the birth certificate is from the US not from Puerto Rico; you have to be born in Puerto Rico to be provided with a Puerto Rican birth certificate. All Puerto Ricans had the Spanish Nationality UNTIL we were handed over to the United States as spoils of war...right now, we are like everybody else, the 10 years of residence apply. If you have parents, grandparents, great-grandparents who were born in Spain, then you may request to have the Spanish Nationality without having to live in Spain. Your services sound like the Nomad Capitalist...🤔 Great video!

To be eligible to apply for a Puerto Rican citizenship certificate, you must either: 1) Have been born in Puerto Rico. 2)Have U.S. citizenship and at least one parent who was born in Puerto Rico. 3) Have U.S. citizenship and have resided in Puerto Rico for at least one year before applying. 4) Have been declared a citizen of Puerto Rico by a competent court of law.

Puerto Rican Citizenship means NOTHING, it's a ripoff since people have to pay for such "certificate". There is NO Puertorrican Embassy,, Currency, Military, or any diplomatic arrangements between PR and any other country. The so-called advantage to get a Spaniard Citizenship has nothing to do with getting the certificate. Th 2 year Spaniard Citizenship applies to people of any country which had been at some point conquered by Spain, therefore the Puertorrican Citizenship is a bogus concept. WE ARE PUERTORRICAN EVEN IF BORN ON THE MOON, DON"T YOU FORGET IT!

As of 2017 there are 6.8 million US adults with dual citizenship; actually, US have no restrictions on obtaining multiple citizenships. US doesn't recognize the Puerto Rican citizenship certificate, but Spain does. The certificate is for people born in the island and their descendants in the states. However, to enter or leave the US all nationals with dual citizenship most do it with the American passport but once outside the US boundaries other countries laws apply, that's why you could apply for the Spanish citizenship since the Spanish government recognizes the certificate and the US has no saying in Spain.

Yes. I don't really care. I see myself as an individual and if I can get 2 or 3 or 4 passports or nationalities and it benefits me then all those new countries are my country. That's the new way to think about independence. The old US Patriotic pro-statehood Puerto Rican identity is antiquated. The Nationalist pro-Cuba anti American Puerto Rican identity is also passé, and quite stupid. And every Puerto Rican younger than 65 years old (still the current majority on the island) knows that the ELA is totally dead. Let's think outside the box! Let's be US passport holders, Spain passport holders and sell our own Puerto Rican passports to billionaires! Let's have the pie and eat it too. Reggaeton style. 😅

The problem I have with this is the government can revoke your rights because of what is a civil issue. If it was a criminal issue and you were found guilty, that's fair. If there's a warrant out for your arrest, that's also a reasonable thing to prevent someone from leaving the country over. But if you owe somebody money, they're going to restrict your freedom and trap you inside the country. That's problematic to me.

If any US Citizen from any of the 50 states move to Puerto Rico and makes Puerto Rico his residence, that US Citizen can not vote for President and will have the same representation in congress that any US citizen from Puerto Rico. In fact, technically no US Citizen can vote for President as only the STATES can vote for President thru the ELECTORAL COLLEGE which is base in every STATE representation in congress (Two senators plus the numbers of representatives the state have in the house of Representatives.)

This is clickbait, since there's no puertorrican citizenship as it was abolished by the Jones Saffron act of 1917 since the USA doesn't permit dual active citizenship, you either are a citizen of your country of origin or a us citizen, the supposed puertorrican citizenship certificate is just a residency certificate as Puerto Rico doesn't have sovereignty, that resides in congress, also there's some missing information here since the citizenship woes that puertorricans suffer while living in the island also applies to any us citizen that moves to the island (for example if u where born in mainland USA and have voted for the president well you will lose that right while residing on the island, once you move back to the mainland USA you regain the right), there's a lot of misinformation on the web and we should look up and validate the info not just take it as face value.... I know all of this because i was raised in the island and participated actively in the island politics ...

I disagree with this depiction of a Cultural and symbolic citizenship that exist in the imagination of those who want to become a separate sovereign nation . Anything to distract the attention motivate by the fear that the island may become a state . People in Puerto Rico do not waste their time trying to try to prove that there is a separate citizenship a piece of paper that serves no purpose since our birth certificates is what matters and it tells you that that is where you were born. Five million Puerto Ricans out of the territory have proven that they don't need a cultural or symbolic citizenship and the fact of the matter is that when that certificate was issued it never had the impact that the separatist expected because this is a political agenda and Puerto Rico have rejected independence over and over and is not willing to play this so called cultural game fabricated by the left , risking what they already have by birth .

@wqnc I'm pro independence and I'm super capitalist and right wing. All I care about is the benefits! We can all have the nationalities of one or two or four different countries!

The most amazing thing here in Mexico is the timing of health care. A few days ago I called my General Practitioner MD and asked if I could come for a visit and he said, come over now. I did so and needed an ultrasound and he called a local clinic and set up an ultrasound 3 hours later. The visit cost me $30 dollars and the ultrasound $45 dollars. I never miss USA healthcare!!

Nope! There's no such thing as a puertorrican citizenship as it was abolished by the Jones Saffron act of 1917 and Puerto Rico doesn't have the sovereignty required to issue passports as it's sovereignty resides in Congress under the territorial clause of the US constitution....

@@visitandolosclasicos my neighbors when I lived in Puerto Rico, were independentistas. They obtained a Puerto Rican Passport as long as they gave up US citizenship.
