    I will probably some heads from you for my SBC Just because of this video. Even though I built a flow bench that has 4 approximately 97cfm motors on I that is a floating pressure and had a Hegelson calibrating made. Still fighting it out.

    Great content Eric.
    Very informative.
    I like the heads, look like great potential.
    I agree better than using the Vortec heads.
    Great up grade over cast heads.
    Thank you, EM.

    Hey Erick, I have a really important decision with my motor. It's a bit of an odd combo bc of what it's for. Firstly, this a mud bog truck. Probably 5000 lbs. The motor is a 383, solid roller, 640 lift 250's@.050 duration. 12.5:1 pro topline 220's iron heads. I currently run a dual plane air gap that I ported. Yes ported, not sand rolled. I was thinking bc the truck is so heavy and bc the heads were 220cc's, the dual plane would work well, but now I'm over thinking it. I'm not winning, so I have to make changes. I'm under 6500 for like 1/2 a second. But in second gear. It stays around 6700 for the rest of the run under load. I am thinking about running the super victor but I don't know if it will work any better bc of the rpm under load in second gear

    I got 474 torque and 486 HP out of your ported IK 180 heads with a small hyd roller on a 383. Great heads for the price. I honestly think if he didnt stop the dyno at 6000 it would have been a little higher. Keep up the good work.

      There is an adapter I got from summit that goes under the thermostat housing. They make a few of them. I got the one that that will read even before the thermostat opens to be more accurate. Electric fans are going to the intake port.

    Have you or do you know anyone that's done a dyno comparison between these ik180's and a set of 461 bumps? I swapped out from humps to these on a 357sbc and I swear it's lost power across the board. Both heads were as cast. 3 angle valve job, done correctly. Same springs, set up properly.

    Do you think having a bigger exhaust valve would be beneficial for a mechanical fuel injection motor since the injection cause much higher cylinder pressure? That’s why MfI tends to blow the cylinder wall out more often. So I was wondering if it would help get more pressure out with a bigger exhaust valve?

    • @flinch622
      @flinch622 2 роки тому

      Does mfi [vs any other fuel delivery] change how many pounds of air consumed per hour for any given rpm? I think not. Now if we were talking nitrous thats different: a bigger exhaust valve would be worth looking at because you effectively have more oxygen available per pound of air delivered - more peak pressure to bleed off so you get proper scavenging instead of reversion.

    So with a 1.94 valve it may flow more then a 2.02 if no chamber work is done ? IE: less shrouded with no chamber work.

    I cannot stand Chinese knock off shit! If I cannot afford American made, especially for racing, I’ll do without, or I just won’t run! What really kind of bothers me, is all the great companies who have sold out! Most of the time quality went down & prices went up! If they didn’t just try to have there stuff made overseas! Never mind the prices going up, which costs us more to go racing, just to make the rich, richer! Dart bothers me, because I used to swear by there blocks & heads! I don’t know what’s going on with Edelbrock, but ever since Vic jr died it seems like the asshat that’s running it, is killing it! I know about there move & bullshit, but I dont ever remember ordering anything Edelbrock & not getting it ASAP! We ordered a pallet of Performer intakes years ago, we had about 10 new circle track 355s to build, we also got a pallet of GM cast iron cylinder heads, because we had a engine that cracked the heads, in exhaust & owner wanted new ones! Well we found those heads flowed like 10 cfm more than the old X heads, which is what everyone used & you were not allowed porting! Well we all know how that goes, 😏😏😏😏 I can tell you there wasn’t a sharp anything in our ports! What sucked is all those new heads came from Mexico, but they were all better @ I had to flow all 36 & we used the best ones on our new engines, along with flowing all the intakes! By the time we were done with our new engines, which ended up being a dozen, we were 20hp up! Over the old X headed engines! Remember we could not port or use vortec heads, although ours flowed like they were! 😏😏😏😏😏

    Those heads suck! A mild work over on vortec casting will produce 260 at 500 lift.
    That a good reason why I bought AFR vortec heads.

    • @flinch622
      @flinch622 2 роки тому +1

      These heads are focused towards street use on a 350 [straight up or bored over] and as noted the cam needs to stop stop near 0.500" lift. My instinct would be go no further than 0.540" - but thats me. A 383? Wrong heads, except you setup with a towing cam. Eric catches the spring rate as shipped: might work on a mild roller cam, but really is better suited to solid flat - order to get the spring pockets machined to suit a recommended roller spring diameter.. Somebody running rollers is likely after more lift/tipping into 0.600"+, and without porting, these heads don't serve that - note the approximate wall of 230cfm. These are not racing heads/don't belong on a 283 [on account of chamber width and 2.02 valves]. They are good - but for the intended purpose. Put 20 hours into any 70's casting, and you won't touch these.
      Work these over? Well, that would be all about intended rpm range, but I think they would edge out the vortec.
