James Parker Sooner or later, law of averages, the British will take enough land to get a horse into. Catch the Germans on an 'off' day. I'm not saying soon, but it must come, as long as they keep trying.
I'm sure that those issues with the Croats and Serbs will sort themselves out and out of it a great strong and stable Yugoslavia will stand forevermore!
I FINALLY CAUGHT UP! I've been watching non stop, every single night before I go to sleep and I finally managed to catch up to the weekly uploads. I love this series!
Stalin did´nt do anything in WW1, as he only as released from prison after the Provisional Government came to power after February. Kornilov gets his moment next month, when the supposed coup named after him unravels and Kerensky sacks him. Follow the weekly episodes and you´ll know more than most.
“The Russian people are suffering from economic fatigue and from disillusionment with the Allies! The world thinks the Russian Revolution is at an end. Do not be mistaken. The Russian Revolution is just beginning.” -Alexander Kerensky He was more right than he knew.
Can you do something about d' Annunzio, Mannerheim, Oswald Mosley, Armando Diaz, Pytor Wrangel and Trotsky ( who did what in ww1 ) and an episode about what happened to the romanov since the abdication until their end? Thanks
I love the music that plays in the background during the preliminary bombardment, it makes the upcoming battle very ominus. Some definite foreshadowing there
Mr.Neidell unfortunately I couldnt leave my comment to the episode I watched thats why I leave this comment here. I watched the episode about Atatürk and I have got tears in my eyes sir thank you so much for your great work it means a lot for me and people who loves Atatürk. Thank you and thank you...
I had to look this one up in Wiktionary (Because I'm not American), but basically he was something like a male version of lunch lady Doris form the Simpsons. Okie Dokie?!
Oh this is so exciting! I wonder what happens next week, my money is still on Germany and Austria-Hungary. You can do it guys, just keep on pushing and you can win that one!
Hi Indi, love the show; I watch it on the fly between work & travel. Updates make the day great at coffee. Curious if there will be any side episode or reference toward the Romanian Marasti and soon after Marasesti & Oituz battles. Thank you ++++ for all the episodes. Great teacher
That Lenin is quite troublesome. I'm sure he will be caught eventually. His impact on history is past its zenith, he will not be relevant again I'm sure.
I finally caught up to now :) started a few days ago love this series first time looking at this channel it's amazing if i had money I would give it too you guys :)
I like how people seem to think Indy is a propagandist for citing these papers and indicating Lenin is a traitor. I believe he was just providing one point of view. He's provided the Bolsheviks view in other episodes where he talks about the senselessness of the war to the common soldier of Russia.
Think you could do a segment on the interwar period specifically the Freikorps? I've been trying to research it but it's difficult to find many recourses. Thanks!
Hey Indy, firstly I have to say my only regret of finding your channel is each week between the Thursday episodes takes forever. Secondly, I was wondering if you would have info on the Austro-Hungarian recruitment practices? Districts, conscription processes etc.
So, the battle of Passchendaele begins soon? Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march Long way from home, paying the price in young men's lives Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army in despair Knee deep in mud, stuck in the trench with no way out...
hey since you helped work on Battlefield 1TM, you should bring up that in 1918 the Thompson prototype was created, and kind of hint towards implementing it into the game as a DLC weapon, seeing as how the game used the hellrigel 1915 is in the game and was never recorded in use during the war though it was tested
"The soldiers were to be disbanded and sent to the front..." That doesn't really make sense as a sentence. I think the units were to be disbanded and the soldiers reassigned to frontline units is what is meant.
Man... I love this channel.. Von Sachsen Coburg Gotha turned into Windsor. OUR royals are Von Sachsen Coburg Gotha still.. Such a mess. But .. an interesting mess.
All this talk about Haig is reminding me of that scene from Blackadder: (Blackadder finds out that German spies are stealing British battle plans) General Melchett: You look surprised Blackadder. Captain Blackadder: I certainly am sir. I didn't realize we had any battle plans. General Melchett: Well of course we have! How else do you think the battles are directed? Captain Blackadder: Out battles are directed sir? General Melchett: Well of course they are Blackadder, directed according tot he Grand Plan. Captain Blackadder: Would that be the plan to continue with total slaughter until everyone's dead except for Field Marshall Haig, Lady Haig, and their tortoise, Alan? General Melchett: Great Scott! Even you know it!
This may have been done already and if so I'm sorry, but could you please do an episode on the capture of the Mephisto tank next year and also perhaps an episode on the French Foreign Legion's involvement, specifically German soldiers? Thanks

Will Davey There was big fighting in the first days of the war, as a part of the Battle of the Frontiers, a French offensive was to break through what they thought to be the weak German centre, only to run into entrenched German positions, losing thousands

I don't understand how the Russian army is even holding together at the moment. With two governments claiming legitimacy and neither really being effective, how is the army paid, supplied and commanded?
Greetings from Hawaii Indy and Team can you put this on Out Of The Trenches. What was the use of Hawaii during WW1. Did any other Pacific islands hold a very important role?
I have meaning to say for a while that I think the Russian revolution would be a great topic for a "The Great War" UA-cam channel. Of course, it should not be exactly centennial. But if you guys are looking for a new historical subject, I think this would not only be fascinating, but introduce a lot of people to a period of history that we in the USA don't know much about.
New drinking game: Every time a British general talks about a big break through that would be exploited by cavalry. Take a shot.
James Parker Are you trying to kill us?
Wuugaa He might be a german spy
James Parker
Sooner or later, law of averages, the British will take enough land to get a horse into. Catch the Germans on an 'off' day. I'm not saying soon, but it must come, as long as they keep trying.

_"July Days in Petrograd"_ is also a nice title for a romantic movie...
V. Athanasiou oscar bait?
+Cisco Blue sure!
V. Athanasiou
Considering the context, it sounds like a film non-romance movie fans would see as there'd be lots of blood and vodka.
It would be the kind of story that ends in tragedy and leaves a deep moral lesson for the audience to ponder. Something a la Tolstoi's Ana Karenina.
About a Lenin/Trotsky relationship, didn't end well though.
Ah, Lenin and Trotsky are finally gone. Surely Russia will be back to normal in no time.
"Normal".
Honor and solidarity to the Black Watch.
Indeed. There's no way that Lenin can return and grab power. ;)
His students and Disciples can he and Trotsky wrote the recipes for World Revolution!
There is nobody who can unseat Trotsky from his position.
October is coming
Ivan Ali Raja Ah yes Red October. "One Ping only please."
Ivan Ali Raja Nothing realy happened in October...i cant wait for November doe soo the Russian revolution can kick off
But first, the Kornilov Affair..!
And don't forget Unternehmen Albion
CHEEKI BREEKI
Haig must have been thinking: "How can I possibly lose? Look how many soldiers I have, to get killed! The czar himself will marvel at our casualties!"
прекрасное видео, говорю как житель Петрограда)
nice video, cheers from petrograd
Give Hotzendorf his job back, he is the GOAT
"Croats wanted a Yugoslavia" - oh boy this aged badly
Yugoslavia wasn't as much of a problem as Serbs never letting go of the Greater Serbia dream.
Indy you finally pronounced Przemysl correctly...my compliments!
I FINALLY CAUGHT UP! I've been watching non stop, every single night before I go to sleep and I finally managed to catch up to the weekly uploads. I love this series!
Who did what in World War One: Kornilov, Kerensky, Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin.
+theokaraman sorry, probably won't be able cover all of them in the foreseeable future
I understand, time is short. Carry on with the excellent work you are doing!
Stalin did´nt do anything in WW1, as he only as released from prison after the Provisional Government came to power after February. Kornilov gets his moment next month, when the supposed coup named after him unravels and Kerensky sacks him. Follow the weekly episodes and you´ll know more than most.
Who did what in the Russian Civil War would be better for those men.
Or Gregory Zhukov he served in the Russian Army in WW1 i belive, in WW2 he led the Soviet Army to Berlin
“The Russian people are suffering from economic fatigue and from disillusionment with the Allies! The world thinks the Russian Revolution is at an end. Do not be mistaken. The Russian Revolution is just beginning.”
-Alexander Kerensky
He was more right than he knew.
At least he was in president of Russian Republic in Kaiserreich alternate universe. That's something 😅
@@bycurling heh that was a nice mod for Hearts of Iron IV
Please do a Who did what in World War One about Mannerheim
You´ll hear about him next year...
Aadolf finland
Probably going to be coupled with the Finland episode.
Oh Mannerheim, hero of Finland.
He was a White German couldn't speak Finnish, a killer!
Can you do something about d' Annunzio, Mannerheim, Oswald Mosley, Armando Diaz, Pytor Wrangel and Trotsky ( who did what in ww1 ) and an episode about what happened to the romanov since the abdication until their end? Thanks
+despruth 9904 maybe
Cody Pettigrew They didn't say they wouldn't do it because they didn't want to, they just have many requests and they have to choose.
Cant believe i finally caught up, what a great series!
Wow! If Russia pulls another successful offensive like this one, maybe they will survive!
History is dark and full of spoilers...
ooops this one is already collapsing.Spoiler Kornilov was killed in the Civil War
Sam McCullough spoiler. My life was made in 1922
Thank you so much for this show, you are a true historian.
I love the music that plays in the background during the preliminary bombardment, it makes the upcoming battle very ominus. Some definite foreshadowing there
Mr.Neidell unfortunately I couldnt leave my comment to the episode I watched thats why I leave this comment here.

"If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwilligness to look facts in the face will se us through." Field Marchal Douglas Haig?
Hi Indi, love the show; I watch it on the fly between work & travel. Updates make the day great at coffee.
Curious if there will be any side episode or reference toward the Romanian Marasti and soon after Marasesti & Oituz battles.
Thank you ++++ for all the episodes. Great teacher
Thisbis fascinating thanks
I wait for my chance to rise.
But when you do rise to power you and Trotsky should stop your little rivalry and "bury the hatchet" as it were.
last time I was this early, the french still wore brightly colored uniforms
Last time i was this early, Bulgaria was a Vasall of the Ottoman Empire.
MistakenGaming _ I'm not early but the last time I was this early Constantinople wasn't controlled by turkey
MistakenGaming _ last time I was this early, barbarians were still sacking Rome
The last time I read this "last time" joke it was quite old and not funny at all...
Everyone gets to use it once. That's how it fades out of the lexicon, by osmotic pressure.
"To tickle you inner arm chair general". Oh, Indy... That is... I don't know if I should be happy or worried...
Who did what is World War One: !
Barron von Ungern Sternberg
He's more known for his little Mongolian adventure during the Russian Civil War.
Notification squad is here. Great video.
The Summer days in Petrograd 1917 were the Worst Summer Days the City Saw until Summer 1941-44 (Petrograd was then called Leningrad)
Much appreciated, welcome to the show!
Can you please do a special episode about stretcher bearers??
My relative was one, and I can't find much information about it
Such a brilliant channel. Everyone should watch your videos. They are the best war documentary's ever. Will you do WW2 eventually too?
That moment when Indy finally gets the pronounciation of "Przemyśl" right
Oh my, that Lenin guy, I wonder if he comes back!
*mmmmmmm* I keep checking out that blade on your left. What a nice piece.
for OTT. why do you think no time travelers came back to save the arch duke and prevent this whole bloody mess? love your work.
I like how people seem to think Indy is a propagandist for citing these papers and indicating Lenin is a traitor. I believe he was just providing one point of view. He's provided the Bolsheviks view in other episodes where he talks about the senselessness of the war to the common soldier of Russia.

Trotsky was the hash slinging slasher!
Kearnsy This made my day.
Churchills always popping out of the woodwork with a new job, isn't he?
Petrograd sounds worse than Chicago.
Wow...
So, the battle of Passchendaele begins soon?
Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march
Long way from home, paying the price in young men's lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army in despair
Knee deep in mud, stuck in the trench with no way out...

O, you mentioned Declaration of Corfy unlike anybody here in serbia actualy
Croats belonged with Austria and Slovenia… those 3 were beautiful together
Lenin? Hear from him again? Naw... No one could forgive treason... As always tho, a great episode!
Indy tickles my inner armchair general. :3
for OTT. There was the home guard or "dad army" during the second world war, where there any similar units during this war?
What do you guys plan on doing after November 2018?
christopher dean I guess wait 21 years until September 2039 to do ww2 😂😂
+christopher dean stuff - that's all we know so far
christopher dean I heard a rumour that the masses be calling for Ww2 week by week. Twas just a rumour though...
christopher dean if anything, russian civil war will go on for years
Yugoslavia sounds like a great idea. I'm sure it will be a stable country for centuries to come
Trotzky keeping in up from May 1st till May 20th.
Smoke weed every day, especially on the first of May.
4:35 thats not Lenin is it?
"The soldiers were to be disbanded and sent to the front..." That doesn't really make sense as a sentence. I think the units were to be disbanded and the soldiers reassigned to frontline units is what is meant.

Hei Indy and team,
Any chance we will get some details from the Romanian front? Maybe about the battles from Marasti, Marasesti and Oituz? Thanks
All this talk about Haig is reminding me of that scene from Blackadder:
(Blackadder finds out that German spies are stealing British battle plans)
General Melchett: You look surprised Blackadder.

Captain Blackadder: Would that be the plan to continue with total slaughter until everyone's dead except for Field Marshall Haig, Lady Haig, and their tortoise, Alan?
General Melchett: Great Scott! Even you know it!
Can you do a special on improvised weapons, huge fan greetings from Ohio
Tell me about that Kukri, please.
Hey Indy, did any German Americans serve as translators for the allies during the war?
My wife's German-Texan-American grandfather served as a translator for a US General in France- the General's name not known
So far. Nothing or at least very little has gone according to plan.
I've missed the last month of videos and catching up. Did you touch base about the romanovs murder in the Ipatiev House a couple weeks ago?
Didn't the romanian front open as well?
+Andrei Ionescu you guys learned the Orthodox calendar dates
On the 24th it will
Apparently the calendar has changed since then, didn;t know that.
What is going to happen once Russia signs the armistice with Germany? Is this show still going to cover them, maybe at least in general terms?
This may have been done already and if so I'm sorry, but could you please do an episode on the capture of the Mephisto tank next year and also perhaps an episode on the French Foreign Legion's involvement, specifically German soldiers?
Thanks
Howdy Indy!
Hälsningar från Norge! (:
This is my first question, so please be gentle
I was wondering, how did Lenin make it to Helsinki aswell as where in Helsinki did he hide and why Helsinki?
Thanks a lot
Looking forward to more well made content here on this channel aswell as "IT'S HISTORY"
Keep it up! (:
Yay, never been this early before
you planning on doing a video about the battle of paschendale?????
I am from Spain and always I hear Galicia think about the one in Spain
Hi Indy I have question for The Great War. I know the Ardennes is famous for it's invasion of France and the battle of the bulge in WW2, but did the Ardennes actually see any fighting in WW1 during the initial invasion of Belgium in 1914? If so I would really like to hear about them. Doesn't matter if they were just small skirmishes. Thanks, you guys have an awesome channel and I hope you get to a million before 11/11/18!

say to us the history of Eleutherios Venizelos
Isn't this the second time the Petrograd garson revolted?
I like this show, but Indy and his pals often use the official british historigraphy source. The documents that said that the bolcheviqs were funded by Germany were considered a typycal false flag by the bolcheviq leaders, and there is great controversy about that untill today. This sould have been mentioned! Therefore, there was no big clash between bolcheviqs and kerensky forces, the soldiers who did not wanted to go to war were peacefully demonstrating, when the provisional government forces opened fire towards them. Do the Georgia next! General Giorgi Mazniashvili!
just wondering I you can explain what the civil air patrol did during ww2. I know but I feel it could be important to know and I saw a video on what the boyscouts did made me wonder
Correction - The state of Croats, Slovenes and Serbs was not agreed to be a monarchy but a parliamentary republic and it was constituted in October 1918. but it was dissolved in 33 days into a monarchy ... why is a topic for a documentary series on it own.
"That Lenin and this Trotsky, made more against Russia..."
The question is, against which of the 2 Russias.
this is great m in such suspense, i cant wait to find out who wins this war
Hey Guys, You used to get a cut if I purchased merchandize from amazon, is this no longer the case? There are a few movies about WW1 and I would prefer if you recomend them and give you a cut in the process. Cheers
Also, movie recomendations would be great, like Flyboys or the Blue max.
I look forward to the Merry Wives of Saxe, Coburg, and Gotha
What about the Von Trapp family I think the father was in the Austrian Navy
For a moment, I thought Trotsky was making money selling hashish!
UA-cam, we can do without the freaking ads and commercials when you guys don’t need as much sponsorship as other social media platforms do! 🙄
I don't understand how the Russian army is even holding together at the moment. With two governments claiming legitimacy and neither really being effective, how is the army paid, supplied and commanded?
Strategic gaming it is not holding. My grand-grandfather, as many of his comrades, deserted the front. Army was in constant state of collapse.
Greetings from Hawaii Indy and Team can you put this on Out Of The Trenches. What was the use of Hawaii during WW1. Did any other Pacific islands hold a very important role?
I wonder why St. Petersburg was called Petrograd
The same reason why the brit royal family changed their names, it was German sounding.
had no idea the House of Windsor is only a hundred years old????
I have meaning to say for a while that I think the Russian revolution would be a great topic for a "The Great War" UA-cam channel. Of course, it should not be exactly centennial. But if you guys are looking for a new historical subject, I think this would not only be fascinating, but introduce a lot of people to a period of history that we in the USA don't know much about.
Did bosinan and Macedonian leaders have any input on the proposed South Slavic state?
