it wud be interesting to add another device and test for directional sound processing. I can see an application for military and civilian security using the map of vibrations to monitor motion detection around a building and instantly know where it is coming from and other factors. also for use in home security to monitor a home for trespass while sleeping and where the trespass was detected. I can see this as an alternate way of receiving audio data for hearing people. to be able to have multiple streams of audio data and tune in to what you want to listen to, merely by focusing your brain on the selected vibration. I can see stock traders using this to monitor a particular 1 or more stocks that they are following for prices. I would like to see the test results of it being used by stock traders. And could it effectively be used in place of a speaker on a phone to conduct a conversation? And what is currently the maximum number of words it has been able to decipher and what is the maximum speed of words coming in can it decipher so far?

That's crazy. I love it!!!! I hope this product become available to all with hearing problems. Plus that vest could help me figure out how close I am to people or objects. Sooo cool
I saw that TED talk some time ago and was excited by the possibilities. I'm really glad to find out they, and others, are developing the idea into real products. I love the idea of extending senses. Decades ago i read about a belt that kept you aware of the direction of north, to make navigation and self-location easier. Something like these products might make it possible for blind people to navigate in open environments more easily. Yay for all of this!
Proving that real understanding comes from multiple sources at multiple times and that you may lose understanding through the lose of a sense but there's more data in sound than just the ability hear. This is a fantastic piece of equipment.
When he said "Adding new senses to what we perceive reality is", I wonder if that's the same feeling as to people who has synesthesia says that they can taste color or see music or even smell textures. I personally would want to experience the feeling of feeling the vibrations from the colors of the rainbow for example. How depressive purple can be, how angry red is, how relaxed yellow feels like, how scared black feels etc.
I’ve just had an insight: wearing two wristbands would enable the guy to have some stereo perception? I think that in this case, he would benefit even more, while walking down the street…
They were probably working 3 jobs, or something like that. Not all parents are the same:D. But i reacted the same though, just didn't wanna judge them out of the blue😂😂
This is excellent. Technical Remote Viewing is a great neurological example as all, and more natural senses are available without ANY direct connection to the impressions. Physical sensing is a byproduct of natural abilities inhetent within the spectrum of Consciousness.
Take it to the next level with multiple sensors. Just multiple of the same sensor or different sensors on different parts of the body. The deaf will have better hearing than most of us.
You know if you think about it, blind and deaf people are like main characters in animes where they can "sense" people's presence around them without looking or knowing their location. They're like real life superheroes!
I wouldn't think so as the sensors aren't dispersed throughout the device, and the microphone wouldn't be precise enough either. However, that being said, I am sure that the skin would be able to adjust to it and work just as well! Better start a GitHub account!
Enhancing the human mind begins with changing the way we sense the world around us. Those with sensory disabilities provide us with an outlet to truly understand how we work, the human brain is capable of so much.
Wait, so a new patient will have to learn from beginning, right? To learn what vibration pattern and strength means what? Like learning to understand a new language
I love your videos about those inventions. But how about subtitles with some contrast? White text on a white shirt... quite hard to read at least for me with a visual impairment.
My first thought is what people with synasthesisea would make of it. This obviously comes in different forms and there would be ne single answer. But I'm confident it would register in tastes and smells aplenty. As for me, I'm harking back to the Bionic Man and scenes from Daredevil where a visual representation formd from ...acoustic stimuli. Moreover, music would never be quite the same again too, for I'd be experiencing on would allude to a physical, almost visceral basis.
This is really cool and smart and Phillip is a really cute guy but i am very sad that we dont have one univeral used sign language yet. Its probably reall difficult for them to adapt to a new country
The same way it would be hard for an English speaker in a non English speaking country. There is no true universal language if you think about it, so it’s not too different in that aspect.
@@daviniquesmall5597 i dont mean a true universal language just one language that use all deaf people. Otherwise they would need to learn another language and i think they already have enough trouble in life

They pretend as if brain plasticity, which is in my opinion the driving factor behind this principle, is almost instantaneous. Well... brain plasticity is a very very slow process, so it will take many many years for a person to have some real benefits of this device.
Couldn't hurt. I have trouble with sensory scrambling when there's too much noise, like, I can't pick up individual voices just vague word mush, I wonder what it could do for me, if anything.
Unreal how ingenuous this is. I wish these sort of projects receive millions of $$’s of funding so they can perfect this technology. This is the sort of technology’s we need. Not Tik Tok and social media.
Wow this is really amazing to think this is achievable with something as simple as computer processed vibration make me wonder what we can do with something like brainwave ? yeah maybe in future those vr devices in anime "sword art online" which can feed not only audio but also VISUAL signal to the brain via brain will really come true! both our brain and technology are amazing.
All of our senses are varying degrees of one sense, the sense of Touch. We perceive nothing unless something physically contacts our sensors. Yes even our eyes.
