Interessante Interviews! settler colonialism = Siedlerkolonialismus, also eine Form des Kolonialismus die nicht von einer entfernten Kolonialmacht ausgeht, sondern von einer lokal siedlenden Bevölkerungsgruppe, die eine andere einheimische Bevölkerung vertreibt / vertrieben hat (Südafrika und Rhodesien sind klassische Beispiele).

I got the feeling that you are not really happy with this episode. There is no real description text underneath the video, you didn't really announced that you met Max, no photo together with him. Compared to all the other episodes at least. Is it the buggy sound or what Max said? You seem to be pretty quiet during the interview too.

I am a Scottish nationalist. However nationalism to me is nothing to do with ethnicity. If you or your parents are English (or from anywhere else for that matter) and you live and work in Scotland then it is perfectly rational to place your vote for the Scottish National Party if you think that is in your best interests. Nationalism to me is based on where you live not where your ancestors hail from.

I work with many Palestinians in tel Aviv and they are nothing but good people more respectful to each other than the Israelis are with each other. The house I grew up in wasn't far from Jaffa one of my favorite places in Israel/Palestine

I was reading "The People's History of the United States," and my son asked me for examples of cultures who behaved well. I thought of native Americans, who walked up to share what they had. Columbus made some notes on it and commented that they could easily be made slaves. It may be more complex than the meek inheriting the earth.

Ein interessantes und spannendes Interview, vor allem, wenn man Blumenthals Aussagen und Behauptungen mit den Fakten vergleicht. Es beginnt (chronologisch) mit dem Herunterspielen und Relativieren der Siedlungsgebiete des historischen Israel. Blumenthal bezweifelt im Interview, ob es das historische Israel auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Israel und Palästinas überhaupt so gab. So muss man seine knappe Aussage auf Deine Frage werten. Da hätte ich ein deutliches Nachhaken Deinerseits erwartet. Die Erkenntnisse von Archäologie und Geschichtswissenschaft über das alte Israel zu leugnen, ist schon ziemlich dreist. Ich erinnere nur daran, dass bereits im römischen Reich Aufschreibungen und Buchhaltung über das von ihnen besetzte Gebiet und über die dort lebenden Juden gab! Die Erkenntnisse über das alte Israel und Palästina sind unbestreitbar.
Es ist aber auch interessant, was er NICHT anspricht: Nämlich die unzähligen kleinen und mehreren großen Massaker an Juden auf dem Boden Palästinas durch arabische Moslems (die sich heute Palästinenser nennen). Sowohl unter der Herrschaft des osmanischen Reiches als auch später unter Völkerbundsmandat, aber alles deutlich VOR 1948. Was er auch nicht erwähnt ist, dass sowohl die vor Ort lebenden muslimischen Araber als auch die arabischen Nachbarn sich einer einvernehmlichen, verhandelbaren Lösung zu einem Zeitpunkt verweigert haben, als man den jüdischen Einwohnern Palästinas noch keine Gefahr für die Muslime andichten konnte. Und das tun sie (mit Ausnahme Ägyptens und Jordaniens) bis heute. Es ging in dieser Region schon immer daran, die Juden so klein wie möglich zu halten oder sie ganz auszurotten. Die Geschehnisse von 1948 und danach sind aus jüdischer bzw. israelischer Sicht nichts anderes als Selbstverteidigung gegen einen Bevölkerungsanteil, dessen Anführer seit Jahrzehnten die einzig akzeptable Lösung in Terror und Vernichtung Israels sehen.
Mir fehlt auch die Frage nach der Rolle, die von den arabischen Nachbarn gespielt wurde und wird. Alle arabischen Staaten in der Region hätten es in der Hand gehabt, das Los der Palästinenser zu lindern, z.B. durch Aufnahme in ihren Ländern. Aber selbst Jordanien lässt die Palästinenser sich nicht in seine Bevölkerung integrieren. Warum wohl? Unter anderem, weil es die von ihnen ausgehende Gefahr eines einheimischen Terrorismus gegen Jordanien selbst realistisch einschätzt und ihn verhindert. Im übrigen halte ich es bei diesem Thema mit Dan Schueftan, der in einem Deiner Interviews gesagt hat, man möge mal hinsehen, wie die Araber größtenteils mit ihren eigenen Brüdern und Schwestern umgehen, und dann stelle man sich vor, wie sie wohl mit den Israelis umgehen würden, wenn man nicht mehr daran hindern würde.
Ohnehin halte ich Mr. Blumenthal nicht für eine glaubhafte Figur, sondern eher für einen schillernden Linksradikalen mit zweifelhaften Freunden: Er arbeitet eng mit Russia Today zusammen, und hat schon einige Male das Ausmaß der Unterdrückung der Uiguren in China bezweifelt.
Ich finde es sehr schade, dass Du ihn im Interview nicht deutlich zu seinen historisch falschen Aussagen konfrontiert hast. Da habe ich Dich in den Interviews mit Dan Schueftan ganz anders erlebt, den hast Du mehrfach bis an seine Schmerzgrenze geführt. Das hätte ich mir bei Blumenthal ganz besonders gewünscht. Leider muss ich auch gestehen, dass ich Dein sehr schlechtes Englisch für vollkommen unzureichend für wirklich kritisches Nachhaken bei so eloquenten Interviewpartnern halte, sorry. Das fällt immer wieder negativ auf.
Während Schueftans Aussagen und Analysen schlüssig und (auch historisch) nachvollziehbar sind, liefert Blumenthal ein Gemisch aus Wunschdenken und Halbwahrheiten. Über seine Motivation, sich so zu verhalten, kann man nur spekulieren.

Young and naive is Max Blumenthal. He oversimplifies something more complicated than he can handle. :) He doesn't mention (or know) that Gaza belonged to Egypt for 19 years. He talks in paleo-left cliches. All answers, no questions. :)
+Anne Lawrence Contrarily Max is wise beyond his years and has insight into the political processes which underline and sometimes undermine this conflict. He knows way more about the history of Israel than you imply, of course he knows about Egypts ownership of Gaza as well as the history of Jordan in the West Bank.
He also sees through the hypocrisy of Israels public policy and understands that they intend to annex area C in the West Bank and ghettoize the rest of Palestine ensuring their Jewish majority and trying to legitimize the settlements there.
Furthermore his understanding of Netanyahu's history is pretty deep, from his early life through his early political career and his mentors to what he has become in 2016 and why.
No Anne, you completely underestimate young Max. In this case he brilliant in his analysis, giving indisputable historical facts and talking about historical players in the early days if Zionist Israel. I suspect you didn't even watch the whole video.
