It was absolutely heartbreaking because these two met when they were four and five years old and we're never really a part for more than a few months at a time. A lot of the drama in the movie did not take place but Francis always truly loved and adored her and she was the same with him. They married when she was 16 and he was 15. Francis actually died one month after his 17th birthday and the movie made him appear older but he actually died from an ear infection that cause swelling on his brain. After his death, I don't think that Mary was ever ever the same and she was distraught and made very poor judgment with her second husband that led to her downfall.

It was hard for me watching this story unfold, watching these two fight to make things work out despite the forces arrayed against them and the mistakes they made. Still, they seemed to genuinely love one another, which is probably why they fought to make it work. This seems so rare. Only a few weeks before this series aired, the woman I loved more than anyone else quit us. And I have yet to find anyone I cared enough about to want to make it work like these two as portrayed. Long may their love last.
