DAMN! Beyoncé got you too, Toni. That heffa wasn't playin'. Now do y'all understand why I say what I say? As soon as Beyoncé came around, everybody mysteriously just fell off. She done phased out all female competition. Toni hasn't been right since 2002. Aaliyah and Left Eye curiously died. Lauryn Hill lost her mind. Brandy & Monica stop selling records. It had more to do with music industry trends than Beyonce. In the early 2000’s Beyonce was still a young up and comer. She wasn’t as powerful as she is now to make all of those artists just disappear. Especially the more established acts. You were seeing a power dynamic shift. With the newer artists like Beyoncé, JT, Usher, Britney, Pink, and Christian Aguilera, gaining influence in the industry. But that’s typical. You see that happening now with the rise of Cardi B, Doja Cat, Offset, Travis Scott, and many others. Like I said the music industry was changing. The same dynamics that were in place in the early 90’s when you had the rise of all these rnb groups wasn’t in place in the early 2000’s. A lot of the black labels were bought by larger white majority labels, and the sub labels catering to urban audiences were also consolidated, ended. The older artists were not selling as well, which is natural. A newer generation wanted newer artists with a different sound. Colorism played a role. Labels realized that black music made them a lot of money. They also realized they didn’t need black artists to sell black music...at least for a time (i.e. JT, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Adele,etc...the list goes on) My point is there were a lot of variables at play and Beyonce was in the best position to benefit. She was more of the outlier not the trend. Even though she may have benefited from colorism. But there were other artists that didn’t make it that had the same opportunity.

delusional. she has plenty of hits. and won a grammy for her last album with babyface. and made a whole album after that. real fans know and still listen to her
people look for any reason to blame or discredit Beyoncé. Even if there was something dubious going on with this song on Def Jam's end, Beyoncé was just a featured artist, it was a song that Jay-Z picked for his able and asked her to sing the hook on, most of the time a featured artist shows up to the studio sings whatever the producer gives them to sing as bounces. It was 2002 her a Jay-Z were barely dating at that time, I seriously doubt she was involved in all of the business dealings regarding the song or was concerned with all of the background history of the sample.
Wendy was trying to lure Toni to throw personal jabs and insults at Bey and Jey but Toni was straight on her agenda! This was about business and that's all. Toni knew exactly what she wasn't to say and how she felt and Wendy was trying to push how far they could go once Toni expressed that she wasn't happy with them lol.

No one was knowingly stealing from her. People make songs on the same beat all the time, and one happens to come out before another. It's not like she was using an original song. It's a sample. + she should have discussed this with Kanye (and her label who clearly knew what was going on), he's the one who brought the sample and negotiated for the sample rights with Tupac's mom. & who's to say hers would've been a hit? + Jay Z said in an interview that he would have done the song with her instead if he had known. Not. defending, just stating what I've read. I also don't get Wendy's obsession w/ making Beyonce look bad. She's human she can look bad on her own.
First, this is Tupac's song. Mariah Carey and Usher also used the same sample for How Much on Rainbow before Toni recorded her version in 1999, using the same refrain "All I need in this life..." and the same concept of doing a Bonnie and Clyde type duet. Around 2002, Kanye paid for the sample and mixed it for Jay Z and whoever produced for Toni paid for the sample as well and brought it to her. The line that Beyonce sings in this song is not unique to Toni or anything that Toni wrote. It was originally in Tupac's version.
No it’s not the same concept the point Toni is trying to make is that she waited till they already had theirs out because that song was originally for them and that was courteous thing to do. However, Beyoncé and Jay Z hurried and put theirs out so they can knock Toni out of the way because Beyoncé was about to make her big debut as a solo artist. They knew if that track came out first under Toni’s name she wouldn’t have even been looked at because that album more than a woman was gonna be a hit. There you go.

Was this sample stealing going on often during this time? I remember when Mariah Carey was mad about Jennifer Lopez' "I'm Real" having that "Firecracker" sample that she had wanted to use for "Loverboy," and the link between Mariah/JLo and Toni/Beyonce&Jay-Z seems to be Irv Gotti.
They all try to come for Bey like them flopping is her fault, your success is your success and if you are meant to have critical claim there is no one with the power to stop you, contrary to popular belief.
@@zeekbjac true but everybody takes inspiration from somewhere and I don't mind if she doesn't write all her stuff because she sings/arranges/performs the hell out of it and does it better than anyone else. @@zeekbjac Maybe she could be better about giving credit but I think she does give a lot of writing credits and more importantly compensate people who write her stuff. I honestly don't think she does it more than other artists it's only because she is so successful that people come at her for it. Didn't even know Toni was supposed to do it first, I'd love to hear that version! Of course we know it's Tupac song at this point the argument is over who got the sample first. And how she is putting it is that the sample was cleared for her first, however if there is no limit to how many you can get to sample then it is a who gets to it first and actually has that push to put it out first. And if she had it first she has a right to feel how she does. It's not about the originality of it, cuz it will forever be a sample and always Tupac's song. I can see Toni singing what Beyonce' sang.
Wow I admire how grown and grounded Toni is!! That letter P woman tried to make her say something nasty about queen bey but she didn't Toni is truly iconic queen all the way...
Lmao Beyoncé doesn’t steal, she wants to use others ideas and adds elements, her only problem is she didn’t give credit and that’s a big problem, she needs to fix it but she’s not actually stealing, but be she doesn’t give credit that can be called stealing or plagiarism
You do realize that was on Jay Zs album and none of them including Toni owned the song. Do you also not realize the song is pitched to whatever artist by the producers...they probably had no idea Toni recorded it or even wanted it. You do know the music industry is sketchy. You can’t blame the artists just because they sing the song....
And in 2016 Beyonce & Jay remain unbothered & still WINNING. Meanwhile Toni's career has fallen into dysfunctional reality shows with her uncanny sisters. #GetWithTheWinningTeam
Imunique Stephens And Bey is on her what? 20th grammy? I rest my case. If it wasn't for Babyface that joint album would have flopped just like Toni's previous work. We know who's favor the cards are in. Beyonce and Jay-Z always win.
+the greatest so you saying Toni previous work flopped yet she earned 6 other Grammy on her own...you are so delusional it is sad. Every artists have their time...lol at you fools always reaching and ignore facts
It's like nobody in the comments actually listened to Toni's response. Not one time did she blame Beyoncé and Jay. She's blaming the producers who are under def jam for both tracks. She said " i wrote some of it" and "nobody owned it". This can easily mean a producer took it and ran it to bey and jay. How are Beyoncé and Jay supposed to know which producers are exactly producing Mariah Toni Whitney albums. I'm sure they had a lot more going on and took a song that the label was offering and didn't think nothing of it. She was more upset that they ended up doing the track instead of her
This is not Toni's song. It's Tupac's. She ain't got no rights over it, and is only salty because Jay Z used the beat and made a hit song with it while she stayed nice and bankrupt. The song was purchased by both Toni and Jay Z's people. Also, most of you guys who are coming down on Beyonce are only doing it because you don't like her. That's evident. Your'e not even thinking outside the box. Beyonce's portion of the Bonnie and Clyde song is a sample from Prince, by the way. It is not something Toni had rights over or any claim to. Nobody stole anything from her.
If you must know Toni went bankrupt in 1997 after Secrets. She had a whole other album that came out in 200 called the heat that made her tons of money. So around this time she was sitting on her a nice little egg. Don’t get me wrong now I like Bey but I’d much rather Prefer a classic like the gorgeous classy and talented Toni Michelle Braxton.

Knowles-Carter has been taking other folks music for years. This has been documented. She learned her shady business practices from her pappy.
the shade towards beyonce is real
Wendy is an Icon! She interviewed so many big names and she is a self made black woman in USA. I admire her. Btw I'm a white dude from Serbia :D.
people look for any reason to blame or discredit Beyoncé.
Jay Smith EXACTLY
EXACTLY
Exactly!

Thank you for stating facts.
lmao like how tf do you steal a sample? People in the comments are clearly biased.
No but it’s literally the exact same lyrics I checked
Beyoncé is a kleptomania period
Isn't this the same thing that was done to Keri Hilson.
You said a mouthfull
Shayna Wms the line beyonce sings is from Prince.
1
Toni recorded in 2002 not 99. It was after her first son was born then he went into the studio for the next album
Very classy and to the point! I love Toni!💗💗💗💗
Wendy was high or drunk, I don't know if she talked about drinking when she had her radio show, but she did say she was abusing drugs back then.

But on to the main issue, if someone passed a song to them, how is that stealing her stuff? she's just sad because Bey's version was a bigger hit than hers. besides they both sang it in a different way!! so why was she really mad? bye Toni, bye Wendy!!!

I mean, Bey do be taking people sh** and recreate it to make it hers, or change one word in a lyrics and say she wrote the song😂😂😂
@@zeekbjac true but everybody takes inspiration from somewhere and I don't mind if she doesn't write all her stuff because she sings/arranges/performs the hell out of it and does it better than anyone else. IF some of these people stopped worrying about what she does and focused more on what they do maybe they would have more success.
@@tonyrocket2103 but doesn’t it become excessive when a lot of your things are “inspired”, but don’t give credit?....what happened to creativity?🤭
@@zeekbjac Maybe she could be better about giving credit but I think she does give a lot of writing credits and more importantly compensate people who write her stuff. I honestly don't think she does it more than other artists it's only because she is so successful that people come at her for it. I believe her creativity is expressed more so through live performances, vocal arrangements, and music videos than actually writing fresh material. Not everyone is a writer.

She really did try it.
I think that's because being in a serious relationship was new for him so the thing's that came along with it like taking pics as a couple...came off as unnatural
Jay-Z even said recently that their relationship started with a big ole fat LIE, meaning the shit wasn't real, but they ended up falling in love.
I know why Toni was mad , when I heard her version of me and my boyfriend I think it would’ve been bigger if Beyoncé hadn’t released it first.
just listened to it and it definitely wouldn't have been bigger...
I'm streaming "More than a woman" rn and found this interview. Toni went through a lot
What song are they talking about?
the jay z song “me and my girlfriend “ that was released in 2003 when beyoncé and him officially started dating
More than a woman was a fucking flopped album. How stupid Arista records is? Telling Toni to promote the album while she was heavily pregnant and also telling her that "she being pregnant was a disease to them" wtf. I'm happy that toni left arista a year later
Beyonce has and WILL always be OVERRATED!!!
With Her music that’s debatable, but she is no way an overrated entertainer over all.

Interesting analysis by Toni B!
👀 so this might be where it all started for Beyonce (when she start stealing songs)😏 I love her music dearly.. But she has stole people songs/video concepts, all over that. Its one thing to sample other artist, but she's been know to take unknown/up and coming artist shit and not even give them credit or help get them where they need to be.
I remember when this first came out. I kind of like Toni’s better though.. But I like The Jay Z one as well.. This album was good I love Every song on there

2. Spanish Guitar
3. Just be a man about it

Wow. I never knew this.
I remember this
What song was stolen?
SMDH... No wonder I don't really listen to them like that
Didn't even know Toni was supposed to do it first, I'd love to hear that version! I can see Toni singing what Beyonce' sang.
you can hear it on her More Than A Woman album. or I'm sure you can youtube Toni's version of it.
*SHADE
you're fine!
Wow I admire how grown and grounded Toni is!! That letter P woman tried to make her say something nasty about queen bey but she didn't Toni is truly iconic queen all the way...
Ole plzzzzz dis someone hear toni call Janet Jackson.. JANIS!😂😂😂😂😂
Wow! I had NO IDEA Beyoncé and Jay Z did that... This is NEW TO ME..🥴 But it’s been said, Beyoncé has a tendency to steal ideas... 🤷🏽♀️

Wendy sounds high or drunk as hell
And in 2016 Beyonce & Jay remain unbothered & still WINNING. Meanwhile Toni's career has fallen into dysfunctional reality shows with her uncanny sisters. #GetWithTheWinningTeam
Yeah Is that why She recently got her 7th Grammy last year
Imunique Stephens And Bey is on her what? 20th grammy? I rest my case. If it wasn't for Babyface that joint album would have flopped just like Toni's previous work. We know who's favor the cards are in. Beyonce and Jay-Z always win.
+no comment. Everybody's time eventually passes, at some point Beyonce will be flopping and we'll be talking about the next big thing.

+the greatest And you sound corny ass hell. Toni was here first so don't be a hater. Beyonce winning off of other people ideas too.
She was more upset that they ended up doing the track instead of her
2:55 Wendy was livinggg for it she’s so messyyy I miss her crazy ass on tv🤣🤣
Toni LOVES Beyoncé
The kicked out Destiny's child Letoya and Latavia released their version of that don't too that was never released, I'm sure that was Matthew.
@@Dayswithdesmond I can understand your preference for Toni over Beyonce. Everybody likes what they like. My point was that Toni couldn't handle the fact that her version of Pac's song didn't reach the heights of Bonnie and Clyde.
