In Holy Spider, we follow family man Saeed as he embarks on his own religious quest - to “cleanse” the holy Iranian city of Mashhad of immoral and corrupt street prostitutes. After murdering several women, he grows ever more desperate about the lack of public interest in his divine mission.
This was an amazing movie. Never seen in one year, that the whole cinema sits through the ending credits. The fight and the way the story is told is so powerful.
American here I love this movie. The story was so beautifully told. I was very disturbed by the son wanting to follow his father 😮
Crazy, the timing is match though like this movie become reality. I hope it will win an Oscar and make 3rd Iranian film win and give another powerful speech, not only for the women but the film makers who get jailed.
The director is Iranian, the movie is set in Iran, but the film is funny enough Danish actually. The director emigrated there and production companies from Denmark made this

It was filmed in Jordan, so I guess that's as close as they could get.

I saw this one in the cinema. It was sold out. It's rough to watch. It's very graphic. But really a good movie and I totally recommend watching it.
Hey how graphic is very graphic? Hopefully less than the Negan baseball bat scene from Walking Dead. And I'm hoping there are little to no rape scenes based on the premise but idk how realistic that expectation is.

@@askariyaw I mean graphic in terms of the vioIence. There isn't any rap. ebut lots of vioIence by the antagonist in the film and the women he makes the directs his anger or hate to. I think you and your gf will be fine lol I just personally don't deal well with such graphic violence. But it's necessary for the story and film.

I saw a dubbed documentary version of this and it looked like the Mullah(Cleric) judge was actually the one with the best jusgement call. The guy was saying that just because Iranian law draws from the Quoran and allows the shedding of one's blood under special circumstances such as when someone is an infidel and whatnot, it does not give the killer the right to walk the street and do this sort of thing willy nilly. His reasoning was that it's the state and the police who should handle the issue of prostitution and he even showed some understanding of the poor prostitutes' appalling conditions. They hanged the guy in jail in the early 2000s based on the Judge's verdict. I was kinda surprised.

You shouldn't be surprised. In an Islamic state, only the state can apply the law, not a random person. (I am not defending Islam, just pointing out a fact)

The Iranian movie from 2020 is way better in my opinion. “Killer Spider” that is. “City of Lies: Love, Sex, Death and the Search for Truth in Tehran”, by Ramita Navai is also worth the read. It was published in 2014.

That in most developed countries, a death sentence (although most developed countries don't have that) is only carried out after thorough analysis, which usually takes years. Same with Japans Aum Shinri Kyo sect members who conducted the gas attack in the subway. The execution was only a few years back.
