    I've seen the solid tools and played around with them but never knew how to use them properly until now - Thanks for another excellent tutorial Justin, I've now signed up to SketchUp Essentials. 👍 5⭐'s

    I know this is an older vid but there's a faster way than grouping and exploding the components. You can do the same thing by selecting and using the solid tools Outer Shell function. I also have a library of components for standard hole patterns i use all the time. In addition, once the pattern is run through outer shell, you can always scale it for depth even if it's just a group.

    Thanks for this video Justin it has helped me solve a current problem with creating an array of holes .I know this is an older video but I think my question is still relevant to SU22 Pro. I do as you suggested and make a copy that I set off to the side just in case I need to get back to where I was easily. My question is does SketchUp have a clipboard where you can temporarily save multiple objects then go back and retrieve them. I have done this by move copies onto another layer(tag) but if you keep those your file gets bloated. I am thinking of a clipboard that lasts only for the session or until you close SketchUp.

    What I still don't understand is why SketchUp turns a solid component into a solid group after applying a Boolean operation to it. Thank you to the person who will be able to solve this mystery!

    Thanks a lot i use sketchup for making 3D gate models before producing the gates. It was easier to create the gate itself then the holes. Now that thing is over and i can do it more faster. Thanks

    wow, great tipp!! thx a lot!!
    could you take me to the next level and explain how to do this on a cylinder where the holes go thru the center?
    More precise, imagine an empty can where you drill a bunch of holes thru both "walls". My Problem is the round shape, its impossible because i want a 90 degree angle on every hole but every hole has his own angle because of the round shape of the cylinder. hope u understand what i'm trying to say

    I have created a brick wall and it is a solid. I am trying to punch holes through it using another solid and the subtract tool as you have done in this video. Most of the time it works but for some reason I have one model where it is giving me a lot of trouble. The shape representing the hole becomes part of the wall without punching a hole through. Any thoughts?

    Justin, I have just the opposite, 3 individual solids that I need to cut several holes though. I tried grouping the the 3 solids that the holes need to be subtracted from, grouping, exploding etc, doesn't work. Or am I going about it wrongly? Thanks

    Is there an easy way to elongate an "Existing" hole in a design? What's the best way to make an elongated hole without going to all the trouble of making a rectangle and adding curves at each end? Thanks?

      Like selecting the geometry and using the scale tool on it?

    • @orac229
      @orac229 5 років тому

      @@Thesketchupessentials No, I have tried using scale and it makes the hole into an oval which looks very unprofessional. I guess I just have to delete it and make a slot from scratch. What about a tool or extension to "replace." For example a project with 20x 3mm holes and then the customer says he wants them all 5mm holes. What is the quickest way to change them all?

      It is compatible with all SketchUp versions. it works like this. they create a body, group that, then draw a 2d geometric figure, it does not matter what. parallel to the body, then highlight this figure, then print on Hole on Solid. then it will be cut. can also cut several figures at the same time. can show in the next video. and have fun with it !!!!
