- If you compare the movie to the comic ... the movie sucks hard ... but, if they would film this version, this movie would be AO rated hahaha ... sounds to me like its the right time to reboot this, with all the blood and gore the ORIGINAL mask had ... then the kiddy friendly movie version we got ... the continuation is here • The Mask , JackG2 own take on this (if you liked this version , i did ... its like what if The Punisher, was the Mask with magic powers)
Too bad they stopped making this kind of motion comics ... well, the Flash generation still makes them (still kinda remember that Spiderman thing) ... but the official version... after this.... went into the realm of kids friendly awfulness of Cartoon Network generation ... the pony nation of lame jokes

8-year-old me, introduced to The Mask via the movie and the animated series: "Oh, boy! I got this PC comic as a birthday present! I can't wait for some funny, cartoony jokes!"
... and you get gore , sarcasms , real world perspective at life , and many sex jokes ... hehe
And instead you get introduced to a lot of gore , HATE, mean spirit and VENGANCE

I got this when I was a kid. As soon as Stanley said "freaking pile of crap" my mom ripped the CD out of the pc and I never saw it again. Didn't think I'd be able to find it again
@@hfric Something tells me that the movie and cartoon combined Comic Ibkiss' unlucky life as a human and sadisitic behavior as Big Head, while combining Comic Kellaway's sense of Justice as a human and Vigilante methods as Big Head. Meaning, because of this, Movie Kellaway is a completely different character altogether.
Boy someone should definitely make a mask movie just like this, because it deserves to be "Rated R" that way

Does anybody else see these original comics as a satire of ultra-violence? Like, for me the comic says, "you'll only create an endless cycle of horrors if you think killing people is a logical plan." I always felt the ending of this first arc was so haunting because of that.

Box Tank! Lol. 8 months later, I recent listen to this series again. Also did a bit of self reflection. Now I feel that the mask represents corruption. Yeah we have a darker side, which the mask magnifies. I rather not have great power, as a result.

Knowing Jim Carrey has retired from acting, with another Mask sequel most likely never happening, I think it's best to just reboot the series to it's comic book roots. With over-the-top Robocop style violents, and to push the cartoony nature of Bighead, why not just animate his head over every actor who wears the mask with a comedic voice actor sounding the same. I mean nobody can be with fluid expressions as Jim Carrey so just make an animated head over every actor's body.
Holy shit, this has such a potential to become a great movie. With the right cast and director it would be fucking mind blowing

With the popularity of the Deadpool movies for their ultra violence, a movie based on this comic should be a no brainier. Ever since I first read these comics back in 2010, I've been wanting a movie and I hope someday, we do.
Only Reason There was No Hyper Violence in the 1st Movie from 1994 was Because Director Chuck Russell wanted to gear it to Family/Kids.
I love the Jim Carrey movie but I want this version to get adapted
An R-rated horror comedy, perhaps make it a wacky gore-fest? Keep the silliness of the Jim Carrey movie, but make it more like the comics. Sick, sadistic, yet keeps you laughing and cringing at the same time.

So kindly chill out and wait for more things to develop from that project, we barely know that much or if WB/New Line Cinema will move forward with the film, one source says we might get an actual sequel with Jim Carrey but I wouldn't get too excited cause that rumor was done by "We Got This Covered" which is kind of full of crap.
I remember in the animated series they do the "fire at will" bit but he says "I don't think Will will be happy about that."
Also, Kellaways: "Yeah? Well yer ugly!" line was used by The Mask when he was aging back to kid, then baby in an episode.
Could definitely see this as a mature animated series, it needs to be done I'm sure people are ready for it now.

i mean... the mask in this story is implied to be sentient and have a mind of it's own. Later comics and the movies and tv show removes this and instead makes the Mask more like of an object that grants it's user the power of cartoon logic.

While the voice acting ranges from decent to pretty hokey at times, The Mask really sounds the best out of all of it!

So I found this CD rom as a kid at like costco or Fry's or something while out with my mom. The Mask had recently came out in theaters and I was a huge fan, so I asked me mom to pick this up for me. I was surprised by how different it was but I wasn't traumatized by it or anything (I grew up with Freddy Krueger and Chucky) It wasn't till I got older that I realized that this was an actual comic and not just something for the computer like Livingbooks lol I'll forever hold this comic in a way higher regard than the movie. You'd never be able to pull this off in today's climate, sadly

I think both this and the movie are excellent, it's perfect for those who like the goofy comedy version or for those who have a dark sense of humor, I didn't know they had comics until I saw this video, I assumed it was dark based on the thumbnail but boy was I wrong it much darker, I dont mind :) some of us can use a little dark humor ever now and again, but in conclusion both are perfect :) two thumbs way up 👍👍
Well to be fair the movie was only made because it was intended to be rated pg-13. And the movie has many references to the original comic books. Still better Than that BS of the Son of the mask. Thanks for sharing :)

they did cut some panels from some issues , due to the rating system ... so they could publish this in digital form ... it sucks i know ... in my description i point to a YT channel that wanted to fix that and he re-voiced all those comics with all of its panels

Doesn’t really make sense why they would cut something as tame as Ipkiss saying hi because of ratings. That’s probably the least brutal thing in the comics

This disc was there with the PC Games, me and my big brother have thought this would be an interesting video game.

the tmnt comicwas originally bloody and gory so I think I like how the mask is going with how it is. I’m for a darker version of the mask that is almost like Deadpool, but I hope it just stays it’s own thing and not a ripoff of Deadpool.
This is what the movie should have been; a horror, thriller, action and urban fantasy(?). And I liked the origin of the artifact itself moreso than the film (really, now? Norse Mythology?); being used as a part of a tribe's ritual (in Africa, perhaps?). This one needs a proper adaptation.
I gotta say somethin' 'bout that Walter fella, though. Holy shit, what a freak. He's an enigma, but still an abomination. Guy can take a lot of abuse, but he's just a freak.
The movie was really good in ky opinion. Also, I have the DVD and can say that the movie almost was more like the comics, but the initial script wasn't working out or something like that. Either way, they did consider a movie more like the comics but ended up making it a comedy instead and hired Jim Carrey.
I for one am glad the movie took the direction it did.
What Fiera said they actually wanted to do it but the many drafts they written missed the point of the comics, I mean one was about a mask maker who makes masks from the faces of cadavers, kidnapped teenagers and forcefully put on those masks and the they become the living dead.... That right there makes no sense and deviates itself from the source material.
And if they were to make it a horror film it would've been edited heavily by the MPAA and it would've been easily ignored like many films like Wishmaster.
It's more of dark fantasy and horror type of movie for the dark horse mask

The Mask is more like Deadpool that's more insanity and broken cartoon style powers. I love the character, maybe one day we get that movie. They allowed Deadpool 1 and 2 to be R rated with a lot of stuff. Why not The Mask?
I actually did not know this was based on a comic series.
Were there any more of these interactive cd-roms ever release past the first 5 comics (on which this cd rom was summarized)? Ive owned this since I was a child, and the nostalgia is amazing, but ive always wondered if ive missed out on any other cd roms in the series.
They made other CDs , but for other comic series ... and like you noticed , each one had only 5 issues but tied so it feels complete... google for "interactive comics cd" to see Marvel also jumping into this and many more ... even popular animated TV series where made into those IC CDs
I think for another story sould be were the mask gets transported to another dimension were he fights another called visor who is like him but the opposite from the mask it would be interesting to see someone who has equal footing with mask and it would be like lobo vs mask and tear each other until they realized there both indestructible as each other.

in the lore unlike the film, the mask brings out what we repress deep within us (same) but the more the wearer has it on the face, the more the mask takes control and becomes totally psychopathic ( The Big Head Killer). A bit like the one ring
