It took a while for me to realize the connection to Kanaya and Mary outside of the idea of chastity and purness. Until I remembered the Matriorb. The Matriorb contains genetic materiel that creates a Mother Grub. It has to be raised and nurtured by a important person entrusted with it to grow into the savior of a race. Compare that to Mary of Bethlehem. A woman entrusted with raising and nurturing a savior of a race. Now remember Horrorstuck. Eridan destroys the Matriorb in front of Kanaya. Compare that to Mathew. Roman guards kill Jesus in front of Mary. *Kanaya watched her child die right in front of her.* Phemic is a excellent song writer and the fact that all of that came from a single LYRIC proves that clearly.
Know I’m late as shit but also compare to the Delarosa who raised the signless as her own instead of letting him die from not having a lusus or culled because of his blood, seeing him as a savior for all the lower bloods (who were oppressed and hated just as real life Christians and Jews around the time jesus was alive making the signless a Jesus figure, evident by the way he was bound with it feet together and hands restrained while being tortured by a large army before finally dying) including the jades who were locked up in the caves (one of which raised him) but after being discovered going against her imperious Condecention one too many times was killed right in front of the Delarosa.
Not to mention, karkats ancestor is essentially troll jesus and kanayas ancestor took care of him, so in a way her ancestor also served a roll like mary

I like what it means, too! To me it basically means that she's been stuck on the meteor so long with the likes of Vriska (post-retJohn), constantly seeing the Dream Bubbles and who some of her alternate friends were or became, and stuck Gamzee, she's juggling the idea in her head that she HASN'T fallen from grace. She's just surrounded by so much negativity and darkness that she's worried it's rubbed off on her.
What I like is the "How did I happen upon a tapestry so fine". I just imagine her singing this line while looking lovingly at Rose. SO SWEET!
I'm sorry, but this is by far my favorite song by PhemieC. There is so much emotion to this song that i can't begin to properly describe it in words. Kanaya is by far my favorite troll with Vriska rivaling with her.

I think some people are misunderstanding is the huge difference between RELIGION references and RELIGIOUS references. RELIGION references can be made WITHOUT purposting belief. They reference the story BECAUSE it is a story -- not necessarily because they believe it is true or false. It is more academic and less personal. RELIGIOUS references implies a belief. These references are clearly alluding to the story of the virgin mother who raised a boy destined for greatness and watched him die in front of her.
Hussie draws inspiration from this text -- I believe -- because it is one of the most well known stories in mankind. And, understand please, that I am a student of religion, but I am not religious. I'm not bragging; it's just a fact, same as "Beyonce is one of the best known singers in America." It doesn't mean Beyonce is good or bad, merely that she is well known. With that said, I believe he drew inspiration from the tale in order to draw on the emotions connected with it. We pretty much ALL know the story of the crucifixion of Jesus, and because the Signless' story is so similar, there are inferences that we can draw - even subconsciously - that may have not occurred to us had we been unfamiliar with the story of Jesus.
This is not a case of Christians attemping to hijack Homestuck. This is a case of effective story telling.

Many have analyzed this song to be a biblical allusion of Virgin Mary being Kanaya and/or The Dolorosa. But let me analyze it myself as dear god do I love symbolism and decoding meanings behind things. Warning: If you've seen my analyzations from other videos such as Little Clown, Troubling Clown... Then you know this is gonna be pretty long. (I'll be honest that I haven't read the bible, but I know quite a bit about it)
Virgin Mary is seen as the purest mother (let me emphasize she is a very big motherly figure). Who is a mother in troll society? The Dolorosa. Let's connect links here... A woman finds herself suddenly engaged with motherhood, and must commit to dire risks to let an incredibly important child be raised. Now that it's obvious The Dolorosa and Virgin Mary are alike, what about Kanaya?
Kanaya's lusus, much like her ancestor, abandoned her duties to raise a rare grub, in which this rare grub would be very important to Homestuck's plot. Kanaya has many characteristics that would classify her as a stereotypical mother; caring, gentle, loving, and yet incredibly badass when she needs to be. But who would be her "jesus"? Karkat of course. Throughout the comic she is incredibly protective of him, and (SPOILERS) flips out when he dies in [S] Game Over. So... Must you need more evidence that the Maryams are practically Virgin Mary? If so, bugger off. It's a webcomic. Hussie is making references to Wizard of Oz for Petes sake, he can make as many biblical references as he wants!

its crazy because phemics fansongs for homestuck are so much more than fandom music to me. they are songs I hear and feel all my hair rise on my arms. I know every word and beat and meaning and the nostalgia is overwhelming. in fact many of these songs have such a strong attachment to my past, that many of my significant memories from the past years play to these songs like a playlist. I will be forever greatful for this music. I was 16 when I first heard a lot of these ( im 20 now).

I'm pretty sure it means that the storms of green and orange are the blood that's being spilled all over the meteor. Vriskanaya was implied, yes, but 1: Rose and her go together much better, and 2: She moved on from Vriska after seeing how much of a jerk Vriska was.
