this is why raiders fans are the most laughed at. they are so delusional into thinking that Lane was the one running the team. Al Davis traded Randy. NOBODY else. And Chuck E. Cheese Gruden ran the Raiders in his 2nd stint. Not Mike Mayock. So all those TERRIBLE draft picks, trading away Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack for nothing. Signing Antonio Clown. That was all Chucky.
Al Davis to Lane Kiffen, " Here are the groceries you need to make baked salmon for dinner." Lane Response, "But Mr. Davis, all you bought was beef tripe, a can of creamed corn and cottage cheese!" Al says, "You said you were a chef, so make it happen!"
Al Davis was full of himself because he built some good teams decades ago. He's also the main reason the Raiders were a joke from the early 2000's until recently. Lane Kiffin may be an idiot, but Al Davis should have given up control of the team years before he did.
Al Davis was a Jewish guy from New York. Roth's actor was a Jewish guy from New York and the character was based on Meyer Lansky who's a Jewish guy from New York.
Jerry was a friend of his. I remember one year Jerry Jones sued every team in the NFL over not being allowed to have Pepsi as a stadium sponsor. The only team he didn’t sue was the Raiders and Al Davis. I think it was because they were friends and Al probably would’ve had him killed. I’m kidding of course but I always felt Al had some Mafia connection and Jones would never cross “Mr. Davis.”
I would have said Monty raised a complete loser that is deep down ashamed of Lane. Doesn't love Lane or even like Lane and is in awe that Monty actually didn't give him up for adoption or have an abortion.
Read the Madden bio, in the late-1970s Davis started to basically move "yes" men into the Raiders org and it affected his ability to evaluate talent because he wasn't soliciting honest feedback. He also became more controlling as time went on. The Russell decision was disastrous and really set the team back years.
Yeah, he wasn't what he used to be after the last Superbowl win. Imho, his biggest mistake was moving back to Oakland instead of staying put in LA. They had a great fanbase there and would've likely stayed in California instead of leaving.
im 27 and only saw the late tough years. But i think what happened with AL is that his formula became outdated. Draft Physical Specimens, Burners, Athletic Freaks. That works a lot in college, but during those years i feel like the teams that were winning were drafting more refined players that fit in defensive systems. AL was all speed and power. I wish he coulda won at the end because as raider fan HE IS THE RAIDERS. But thats too bad. At least i am happy that growing, while my team was absolute shit and a joke to watch, he gave us gems like this lol
As much as I hate saying anything negative about Coach Davis, he should have kept Bruce Allen and should’ve taken a step back and let the pros handle draft picks, free agents, and play calling. Say what you will about him, even in his final stages of life, he was sharp as a tack, he demanded attention and respect, and could control any room he entered. Truly one of a kind. There will be no other human that’ll have the spirit of this giant.
Man a huge part of me loves Al man, he was a Maverick a true legend in the NFL. But we all know his stubbornness and few bad decisions caused us a lot of turmoil and years of losses. Benching a top 5 RB in his prime, trading a great coach in his prime .. am that caused us immediate karma tht lasted 20 years man. Smh but still I love al I just know he was wrong more than a few time
I suggest, Mark Davis watch this video and come to the same conclusion about the current Coach of the Raiders. Mark, grow ba--- and hire Jon Gruden back. Roger Goodell Does Not own the Raiders. Thank you
Al Davis built the Raiders, and at the end he destroyed them. A perfect example of someone who stayed around way too long while the game past him by. He just kept doing things the same way that he always did them, his way, and they weren't working anymore. You have to know when it's time to step aside. Al was delusional thinking he could continue to run that team successfully and he made a complete mess. Heck, the Raiders are still a mess to this day.
Drafting for speed and overpaying for free agents doesn’t work in the modern NFL and he just kept doing it. How many busted draft picks for decades do you have to draft to realize you suck at it? He didn’t want to win baby, he wanted to win his way baby.
His obsession with speed in the draft made for some laughable teams in the 2000s. Besides their few playoff runs and the superbowl run they were terrible. Lane Kiffin was awful, but Al Davis ran his team the same way Jerry Jones did, aka everything goes through him. So many terrible draft picks in the early rounds besides JaMarcus. Robert Gallery, Rolando McClain, Fabian Washington, McFadden was a 1 year wonder, Michael Huff, Heyward Bey. Janikowski and Nnamdi were really the super well-known high-end picks and even then Janikowski was a damn kicker and Nnamdi's aura died pretty damn quickly once he left. Anyone who really succeeded seem to die out quickly. Same with Buchanon. He died out after 3 years. I'm sure there are a few others I missed, but you can't flop on your 1st or 2nd round picks for a decade straight. That's brutal.
Who could have known that the man that knocked his 1991 first round pick out of the park with Todd Marinovich would of botched the Jamarcus Russell selection, he was the most sure fire prospect since Joey Harrington. It's not easy catching lightning in a bottle, something tells me from the liver spots that it wasn't lightning he preferred in his bottle.
Lane Kiffin traded Randy Moss for a 4th rounder saying he was washed up and the dude puts up 47 tds the next 3 seasons, you cannot write this stuff.
I agree with you, but Randy Moss isnt Randy Moss with Jamarcus under center so im sure Randy is happy about that situation.
Lane Kiffin was not the GM. Everything went through AL "Just lose baby" Davis.
Moss quit on the raiders
this is why raiders fans are the most laughed at. they are so delusional into thinking that Lane was the one running the team. Al Davis traded Randy. NOBODY else.

This dude was Jerry Jones before Jerry Jones 😂😂😂
I hear that comparison a lot.
Nah Jones is fake ... Al was a G
Jerry Jones wishes he could be Al Davis. There is no NFL without Al Davis.
the overhead projector lol. best press conference ever!

JaMarcus Russell is a great player? Hindsight is 20/20, but in retrospect this makes Lane Kiffin look good.
Yeah but Lane was wrong about quite a few other things. DeAngelo Hall? Javon Walker? Greg Knapp as OC? Trying a 75 yard field goal?
Calvin Johnson never won a playoff game.....remember that.
Robert West al davis signed allllllll those guys and lane only roster move was get rid of Moss
@@robertwest9567 Greg Take A Knapp on offense?

This is hilarious
Well he didn't seem to like Mortensen.
AL Davis talks exactly like Hyman Roth in the Godfather
“That’s what I’m saying’ to ya.” Always loved that line. Very mafia boss-like.
But he occasionally moves his mouth/adjusts his jaw like McCluskey right when Michael takes the head shot. Bizarre.
He was part of the MOB
Al Davis was a Jewish guy from New York. Roth's actor was a Jewish guy from New York and the character was based on Meyer Lansky who's a Jewish guy from New York.
@@Tres_Nueve "how's your mother?" Very New york Jewish. I think he's a perfect gentleman and 100 percent authentic. Football misses him.
LEGEND. One of my favorite press conferences ever. Just dismantled that weasel lol. AND Mort.
And what a weasel he is!!
Totally dismantled him lol "The Lies!"
“A friend of mine who is very big at the university of Arkansas” ..Jerry Jones 💁🏼♂️

Mark Davis should show this to each head coach he hires
When Al asked the reporter"How's Your Mother" I laughed Soo hard I got light headed 😵😂😂😂

@@RaiderMarkAfterDark_sec122 Oh boy, thats not good
That Jamarcus statement didnt age well. Kiffin had to deal with that guy....and somehow make him a team player. Al is a legend, we all make mistakes.
The only thing Kiffin was correct in his evaluation was J'Marcus Russell. He was a never ran. Had too much of an iffy background.
The AFC Championship Trophy should be renamed The Al Davis Trophy

Lane wanted to draft Calvin Johnson instead of Jamarcus Russell. How’d that work out?
but they needed a qb, would have been odd to draft a wideout, he was a lazy bum or who knows, he might have been good
Lane might have gotten that one thing right but he so much wrong. Look what he did to Tennessee and USC.
@@chickenlil180 He wasn’t half bad at USC but that might have been because Monte Kiffin was part of a package deal

He likely went senile (or just lost his magic somehow) after the last win. After that, he made some big mistakes.
Perfect way to describe Gruden now
domingowilfredjuan wrong

Al Davis is a drama queen

Wow. At this point he should have retired this is crazy.
He “Federal Expressed” the letter.
This dude old.
Al "So I says to him" Davis
“So, anyway, I says to Mabel, I says”
He was trying so many things to turn around the raiders and it wasn't working..
GOAT
Al Davis might of been passionate about football....but he was also delusional. He killed that franchise.
+Oiouthas He was right about Kiffin though.
He made that franchise and the league what it is today!

Jamarcus is a great player 🤣🤣🤣
Steely Mike Well at least he was in college.

Now I can say the Raiders are so much better off with him gone.
Sheesh that was harsh 😂😂😂
Nah, Mark Davis is a moron. All of Al’s bad qualities, none of his good ones.
