im 27 and only saw the late tough years. But i think what happened with AL is that his formula became outdated. Draft Physical Specimens, Burners, Athletic Freaks. That works a lot in college, but during those years i feel like the teams that were winning were drafting more refined players that fit in defensive systems. AL was all speed and power. I wish he coulda won at the end because as raider fan HE IS THE RAIDERS. But thats too bad. At least i am happy that growing, while my team was absolute shit and a joke to watch, he gave us gems like this lol
As much as I hate saying anything negative about Coach Davis, he should have kept Bruce Allen and should’ve taken a step back and let the pros handle draft picks, free agents, and play calling. Say what you will about him, even in his final stages of life, he was sharp as a tack, he demanded attention and respect, and could control any room he entered. Truly one of a kind.
