Instead, the left-hand is straight stride. And a beautiful thing it is. It’s also featured to beautifully effect on “Erroll’s Blues” and “Erroll’s Jump”-the latter a jaunty up-tempo number. But, after years of experiencing Erroll’s music, I think the single most glorious thing about his playing is the long sung lines, his very vocal approach to melody. That’s in evidence here, and can also be heard spectacularly in “Penthouse Serenade”.
