- This is not an official analysis or dance rank. It is just be zooming in on those I feel did a great job with the move. It is to appreciate when everyone did it well and catch details that may have been missed earlier.
I recommend watching this once without reading the text to just appreciate how well everyone does it and then read for my explanation. I know there’s a lot going on at once sorry. Remember, this is not to put down any member or rank them or anything. It is simply to appreciate the details of the dance. Still, I will talk about my general takeaways.
My Blackpink version of this seems to have gotten a lot of negative feedback over the past few days. I am still getting rude responses. Please be positive and respectful even if you disagree. I really do look at every single person and explain why I picked the one I did. I would be happy to discuss w you all in a friendly way. ALSO, if anyone comes at me saying I’m Yuna biased bc she’s actually the 2nd worst dancer in the group and I clearly favour her since I give her a segment in the end or something...my bias list is 1. Ryujin, Chaeryeong, Lia, Yeji, Yuna. Maybe I am biased to Yuna’s STYLE of dancing if anything, but not to Yuna herself. This isn’t about hyping some members to put others down.
Here is what the distribution ultimately was:
Yeji = 53s
Yuna = 48s
Chaeryeong = 36s
Ryujin = 23s
Lia = 15s
Overall, this dance is very precise and cool. I really like it. There are lots of little details. However, this trips the members up a lot. Right off the bat, almost every move has a few members off time. This is likely because the choreo is so precise and some big moves have to be made in a brief time. That means some people may start earlier to get there or bounce back quicker to get to the next move. They also may lag as it takes them longer to complete the move than they thought. Alternatively, they may cut corners on the move all together. Pretty much everyone did at least two of these things. It’s not a bad thing really, maybe more of a fault in the choreo but I enjoy it overall it's a good dance. I’m learning the chorus right now and I find the general thing easy but the little details rather difficult. And the chorus is the easiest part so I can only imagine how the rest feels.
Yeji
Best shoulder and chest fluidity which comes in handy during this dance. She also knows what to do with her body to make things look next level good. One issue is her timing throughout.
Yuna
She knows exactly how to hold her body. She always ends up in the perfect position and rarely looks awkward if ever. However her accuracy to the moves themselves aren’t always as good. Her timing is sometimes off. That’s why she excels at slower moves as she simply holds herself best.
Chaeryeong
Perfect timing basically all the time. Every little detail is hit. She is amazing with her footwork and chest pops. She’s the best dancer in the group imo. I think she really only ended up third bc Yeji and Yuna’s energy matched the song better and they were sharper with it. Chaeryeong is basically always one of the top 3 for these moves throughout.
Ryujin
Overall very clean. She is good at being straight and sturdy and rarely loses balance. She is good with subtle head movements too. However she is also less fluid with her chest and hips, she also doesn’t always extend her arms all the way. I think this is due to her more masculine and hip hop style dance where she does short and sharp yet skillfully stiff moves. However when she applies that to some moves here it loses some bounce and accuracy. Although, when watching their stages I find my eyes go to Ryujin most so these details don’t always matter in general performance.
Lia
She really isn’t that bad a dancer but this practice is rough for her. I feel she has done better in the past or even on live stages. She often substitutes moves with different actions all together. I am not sure if she can’t do them or just isn’t sure what to do or is rushing because the dance is so fast and loses accuracy. Her timing is frequently off BUT usually it is not just her. She is good at being expressive through the entire dance, more than any other member. They are also singing during this practice so she spent a lot of her focus on that.

it's hard bc usually when one does the move well, the other will too since they have the most similar styles imo. And the same good sense for dance

Actually I think she kept up a lot better in the past. Particularly Dalla Dalla 2019. I think this is actually some of her roughest. She's better in the official dance practice though even (I took the stage practice where they sing too bc the other wasn't out yet). I think she's definitely improving though. It'd be hard not to. But I also don't feel she was ever terrible

How Would Soshi Sing? I think it’s because the choreo and vocals are getting harder so that’s why, as well as the constant hate she gets for being a “lazy” dancer that makes her lose confidence and overthink her moves. (Even though if you know anything about dance you could tell that she’s obviously giving it her all even if you don’t think she’s good.)

NGL I always thought Lia danced the best in Dalla Dalla,,,,, I felt like it was really hard to tell she wasn't as good as the other girls then, unless you were really paying attention. I assume it's because she had a lot more time to practice Dalla Dalla than she has had for the rest of their comebacks,,,, and of course the dances are getting harder. But she is still steadily improving!! GO LIA!!
I think this is the first time Lia got sooo many "best" in the "who did it best" videos. She's improving so much.
I think I actually gave her a few more seconds when comparing ITZY's Dalla Dalla from 2019 vs 2020 (she did best in 2019!)

Imo Yeji and Chaeryeong have the best technique, Yeji is very sharp and powerful and Chaeryeong is so fluid and has great control over her body.

If we base it on versatility, I'll go for Chaeryeong. She can do almost every type of dance. Her body is not just sticking to one genre, unlike ryujin, dont get me wrong because she's a very good dancer, she dance so clean but her genre is more on hiphop that's why she tends to over power or under dance some steps.
Totally. This is just like...per move for this particular dance video. Each performance will have slight changes. When they do different dances it will change too. I definitely am not trying to make an overall dance ranking but I do personally find Chaeryeong to be the most versed dancer yes

Ever since I watched Yeji's dance performances before their debut I have no doubt that she's really a main dancer material. She also the fastest to memorize dance steps according to them. Moreover, I love her facial expression and her eyes really.

Most of the steps Chae was in the top 3 for. Really her difference between Yeji and Yuna for this are very small. For example, while Chae was consistently good, Yuna bobbed between being one of the best and then just okay. If you were to rank every single person for every single move then the rank would likely put Chaeryeong on top

I personally think Chaeryeong did the best on the little head swirl move on the first verse where it’s Lia’s turn to sing. She move from head then neck, then upper body until her hips the best her fluidity shows in here.
Yuna parts are so catchy. In my opinion she is the best in her parts and in the moves that you pointed in the video.
Edit:the choreographer gave her those moves for a reason.After all, they observe and create a choreo aiming at the strengths of each member. It's not a random selection all time.
Like with their shoulder moves in Wannabe, clearly Ryujin does it the best so it's obvious why she's center for that part. Also during Icy era, Yuna was center during neck-breaking part because she does it the best.
Sorry but i think the moves are given after the recording. So technically, they didn't choose Ryujin for the shoulder part, she already had the line for that part and they just choreographed what they hear in the song.

She isn't bad at all. There are many people in this world who can't keep time or coordinate their bodies at all. There are some moves she does very well. I would say for a professional artist who does this for a living that she is below average. But she's also perceived as worse than she is for the reasons you said. Lia truly doesn't deserve all the bashing she gets when she really truly is trying her best!
But what do the others have to do with her? They don’t affect her ability to dance or do the moves correctly. What if she would have debuted in a group where only 2 people have the potential to be the main dancer? Would that make her better and fix her mistakes? It’s so silly how you guys always use that excuse that because the others can be main dancer that that makes her bad. Lia’s bad because she doesn’t apply corrections. She’s stiff, has bad posture, musicality issues, and bad timing. None of that is directly affected by the others.
Silo Green She would have the same skill but because the quality of the dance line in Itzy is so high, it really places emphasis on her lack of training in the dancer department (since she only trained for like 2 year I believe and didn’t have prior dance experience). In a group where 3 members are below/average dancers it would draw some attention away from Lia’s dancing. However I think its good she’s in a group like this because she is rapidly adapting and improving over a short times span!
Random Cookie ughhhhh if I hear this one more time. I’ll say this one more time. THE OTHERS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HER LACK OF SKILLS. THEY ARE NOT THE REASON FOR HER ISSUES. SHES THE REASON FOR THEM. Lia has problems by herself. The others do nothing. I doubt her debuting in a group with a different skill set would pull much attention. Her mistakes are super obvious and you would see them regardless. Even if someone else was just as bad, she would still be bad all by herself.

Her mistakes are obvious sometimes yes but I’m a group where dances were less complicated due to more members being less skilled in the dance department, she would not stand out as much due to simpler choreo/mistakes other members make. Am I saying she’s the best dancer and on the same level as the dance line? No am I saying she doesn’t need more improvement? No I am simply saying she is not as bad of a dancer that people make her out to be sometimes, her dancing is just not on the level as the others which makes her lack of skill more potent. In a group like Mamamoo where dances are more simple she wouldn’t stand out as much since the group is more vocally focused. In twice there are dancers about her level who also need improvement, she wouldn’t always be the one to stand out in dance mistakes like she does in Itzy.

Chae uses better dynamics and her hip movements are very well executed. it probably may not be that obvious considering the yuna is infront of her, but after watching her fancam for weekly idol, i personally, think she does this move best

No that's totally fair. Great analysis! There were a lot of times Chaeryeong was in 2nd but sadly I don't show who got close to the "best" but I wish I could. Although that might be too confusing overall. Overall Chae did pretty much nothing wrong in the dance. She's very skilled and imo the best dancer in the group.
To respond directly to each move and why I picked what I did...
1. Yuna just move very smooth and bouncy here and it fit the song at the time. You're right thought I did notice nice details in her weekly idol solo!
2. It was originally on Chae for this! Then I noticed Yeji hunched her back so she can arch it on the next count when their heads nod up. Idk if it's correct but it was a nice added detail so I decided to focus it
3. I go through this chest pop in detail at the end and why I liked Yuna's so much. Chae's was probably 2nd here too. You're right about the legs.
4. Here I picked Ryujin for she sleek head movement. I found her overall body roll to be smoothest. Again, you're right about Chae's knees though.
@@soshimochi556 i actually get why you choose the other members for some parts of the dance, i think choosing who really did the moves well are all up to our preferences. like for some moves, a specific member may move her upper body isolation better yet the other have well expanded moves and angles for their lower body. all the members did really well and btw i love your video! 😊

Hmm interesting. I suppose so. I would say Lia's actually fairly strong in her hip movements. Especially when she's supposed to bounce and pop her hip and stuff. That's probably more her strength in my opinion. Chae's notable strength is her torso to me. Yuna just is able to hold herself well, keeping a good upright posture and pretty angles throughout.

As someone who has been dancing for 12 years, i personally think that yeji has the most precise, clean moves, and great body control, but also a lot of charismatic energy that just pulls who is. They are all amazing and have improved so much! midzy forever💗

Later on I watched all their fancams and realized how good chaeryoung is and when I saw their official positions I realized itzy had 2 main dancers. Yeah someone else mentioned that too! These picks would just be for this specific dance practice, I'm sure there's times when someone else does the move better or worse depending the day. At the end when I do them all slowly, it just is my preference for how Yuna did the chest. But yeah I think most idols do a little better in their weekly idol cams since all the focus is on them. I've compared those cams before but it's a bit harder to watch them side by side and to download all the resources so I used this one.

For me, Yeji is the best dancer. At the end of the day, it's all a matter of preference. The only one who can say who danced this the best is the choreographer (Kiel Tutin).
Are you a yuna stan? Cuz i find your analysis here is a lil bit biased. Yuna is so freaking good at clear techniques but chae here stands out so much. This 'fast' kind of dance really suits her, dancing powerfully yet doesn't look overpowered. She looks so fierce here, i love that
And yuna's dance reminds me of bp lisa. They have the same technique, so satisfying and smooth. She owned wannabe dance. My eyes are always glued to her everytime they're performing wannabe, but not shy is just chae's

Im a dancer and i think the person who danced the best in Not shy is Yuna,Inthe choreo Yuna had more control and her expressions are very good,but all members did so good dancin the choreo,i tried learning the choreo and for me its very tricky since they do alot of movements but itzy members do it so easily..just for me i think Yuna stood out the most in Not shy (i also think Yeji and Chaeryeong did the choreo good too but if i had to pick one person it would be Yuna..)

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses as a dancer. I tried learning this dance and realized how hard these angles and details were. Even really good dancers who cover it miss some steps. Even other member miss steps! So for Lia to do it well, even if not as good as the others, is still very good!
Itzy has one of, if not the most strongest dance lines in kpop
they have the strongest dance line.

idk, i see that Chaereyong has some style in her movements, it's seen the best in "Icy", but she dosen't focus on details like Yeji does. Yeji has a better musicality, technique and facial expressions (maybe angels and body control too, but I'm not sure). like stop underrating Yeji's dance skills, most Midzys, who joined fandom after Dalla Dalla era don't even know that Yeji is a main dancer or think she is a lead. I don't have any problems with complementing Chae, but bc Yeji was popular in Dalla Dalla era, people started purposely ignoring her hard work. even in guides, they don't mention her dancing, as if her only position is leader
Chaeryeong has very notable control and technique. She is very clearly an amazing dancer to me. I think she just lacks a bit of energy that Yeji has or doesn't add those extra details to draw the eye. Hence people missing her earlier on. Not that she doesn't do these things but, just like everyone is compared to her amazing dancing, she is compared to everyone else's amazing stage energy

But yeji is actually not that is their opinion I doubt they know the vocabulary of dance and yeji always got her recognition nobody knew chae was the main Dancer because she never got a dance break ect always at the back but now she is not and chae is better than yeji chae has better technique, versatile, dynamics, angles, sharpness, smoothness, good amount of energy ect

Yeji is not overdancing, she’s actually both a powerful dancer and performer she dances on beat and is attentive to the music plus her sharp and clean moves attracts people. Yeji focuses on strength while chaer is more on soft/feminine dancing. Not only does yeji dance well, she can also dance to any genre and is able to connect with her audience with her stage presence which chaer needs to work on. a main dancer should be both a good dancer and performer😊

Honestly, chaeryeong is a better dancer. Don't get me wrong tho, yeji's dancing is really cool and sharp plus she has so much energy but chae is technically better. I'm not a professional but i do have a friend who is.
Chaeryeong is the best overall dancer in ITZY, my opinion. Best idol dancer - Yeji because she is so charismatic and powerful.
Yes I see it phrased like that a lot and I get what yall mean. Chae has all the technicalities covered in and beyond. But Yeji has her bases covered too and has that extra sass that suits these choreos and catches the eye.
