  • Cleaning a matte monitor without damaging it is actually really simple once you know how to do it, the problem is that a lot of people don't know how to properly clean a screen!
All you really need is some water and a microfiber cloth.

If you want to optimize the process: use demineralised water. Tap water contains all sorts of minerals that can/will leave streaks on the screen depending on how mineralised your tap water is. Thanks a lot for this tip, I always thought that I needed a special cleaning product and I always got streaks. My screen is so clean now!

It doesn't even make any difference at all since the ppm in the water itself is not quite that different. Using regular mineral water won't leave any scratch at all. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Thank you for this! I almost used alcohol, and I’m very glad I didn’t. A little distilled water and gentle circles, as you suggested, worked perfectly. Seems like common sense now, but I’m so used to using cleaners to get glass screens clean that I almost didn’t consider the difference in materials.

I have always used the liquid I use for cleaning my glasses with a micro fibre cloth. I find it a little better at cleaning oil from the screen from where my son has touched it and it doesn't leave any water streaks. I use it for all my screens; TV, phone, Switch, laptop, monitor.

Your method is something I always used and still use from the very start since I got first matt monitor(never got glossy monitor). But, there are considerations as well. Like where is the monitor likely to be used. If it is supposed to be used on dark room then cleaning with water and microfiber cloth is fine. But, better way would be preparing one clean water(soft water as possible) and another is little bit of dishwash solution (not too much concentrated just so that it make foam) to remove greasy stuff from touching or anything that got stuck on the screen. And preparing three cloth ready is the best one for cleaning with dishwash solution another with water wipe and finally for drying out.
    1. Same circular motion cleaning but with dishwash solution to remove the greasy stuff. Better prepare it on a bowl and do it multiple times like one round, dip it again and get rid of those residue from cloth on the bowl solution.
    2. Same circular motion wiping with clean water. Same method of multiple times. At last round put water level to where it just doesn't dry too fast.
    3. You need to hurry up now to this step. Before that last round water starts to dry out clean it with dry cloth but slowly. This is necessary to remove the water from drying itself and leaving stains. Getting those water stains is a natural process as the residue mixed with water is just left behind when water evaporates. So, better wipe it with dry clean cloth ASAP.
Currently, I used vinegar based glass cleaner out of curiosity. And I don't know what it did with monitor but cleaning with it did leave residue. And I used little bit of baking soda solution to neutralize if that cleaner did any acidic effect. Now, I clean with water as said above. And the antireflective coating does stop the reflection evenly. I don't know whether it was already there or not but there is some white uneven type of residue looking layer(not the water residue stains) on the monitor. This shows up on too bright light(not direct sunlight but sky bright light) is coming to the monitor. Maybe that is normal for antireflective monitor which I didn't notice much as this is the first time I am using it on bright light going direct to the monitor. BTW my monitor is MSI MP241.
