Our First Day in SULAWESI (Celebes): Exploring Makassar 🇮🇩 Indonesia Travel Vlog (BEST Gado Gado)

- Опубліковано 28 чер 2024
- In this Indonesia Travel Vlog, we finally make it to the island of SULAWESI (Celebes)!!! Since we arrived in Indonesia, we were so excited to visit this island that is less touristy than the other places we went to! We had a late flight from Bali into Makassar, so we stayed in a cheap hotel and spent the whole day exploring all of Makassar before taking an overnight bus to Toraja! We started the day at the Laku Patisserie - a really cute coffee shop in the center of Makassar! They had amazing coffee, amazing avocado toast, and there was a picture of the Sagrada Familia from Barcelona (where Carles is from)! The cafe was in the best location right across the street from Fort Rotterdam Makassar! The fort is one of the most popular places to visit in Makassar! It's a 17th century Dutch fort that was in use until the 1930's. It's also the most well preserved Dutch building in all of Indonesia! It's free to enter and walk around the grounds, however there is also a museum part you can enter for a small fee. It was really neat to walk around the Dutch era complex in the middle of an island in Indonesia! When we left the fort, we walked past a giant gong to get to the famous Somba Opu Shopping Street. We were expecting more of a market type shopping street, but it was actually full of gold/silver/jewelry stores! We were so surprised to see all these stores in the middle of the city. We got pretty hot walking so we decided to turn toward the beach. When we arrived at the water we were SHOCKED by the amazing view of The 99 Domes Mosque! We walked along the water past a few other cool statues until we arrived at Pantai Losari (Losari Beach). At the bottom of Losari Beach we came to the Floating Mosque aka Masjid Amirul Mukminin. We thought we wouldn't be allowed in as we weren't dressed properly, but the guy working outside spoke English very well and said just take off our shoes and we could go in! We walked up the stairs to see, but didn't enter as we weren't dressed properly.. It was still so cool to see the blue floating mosque in person! When we left the mosque, we continued walking toward the 99 Domes Mosque. We went by many different statues of famous people from Makassar until we reached the Center Point of Indonesia! There's a cool globe that says it's the center and we think it might actually be the CENTER of Indonesia if you look at a map (just another reminder that Indonesia is HUGE)! We continued to walk over the bridge to our final destination - the 99 Domes Mosque!!! It is probably the coolest mosque we've ever seen! The mosque was actually very busy when we arrived so we didn't want to try to enter, however we were able to walk around the mosque and take pictures with so many people outside the mosque! From there we met up with a becak motor driver we had talked to earlier in the day. His motorbike actually had a Barcelona football seat so we had to take it back into the city to a gado gado restaurant we were recommended - Ratna Luwita. It was the best gado gado ever!! After we ate, we went back to our hotel to get ready for our overnight bus to Toraja!

Kami warga indonesia pasti memperingati hari kemerdekaan dan saya harap kalian ikut berpartisipasi dalam hal tersebuy
That would be really fun to do one day! 😍
When you come to Losari beach at that time, you saw lots of police and many sarnafil tents being dismantled. That's because a few days earlier a joint non-war exercise was held, namely the Komodo Multilateral Naval Exercise 2023. Navies from 36 countries took part in this exercise which was centered in the Makassar Strait. This activity is focused on regional maritime cooperation, disaster management, and humanitarian operations. I was able to see the combined practice, because I came to Makassar before the event was held. At that time, I saw that there was a parachuting attraction, a fighter plane air show, and many warships anchored around Losari beach from 36 countries.
It must've been huge event.
@@ajieanindito5566 Yes.. It is
Oh wow it sounds like there was so much going on there! ❤️
@@NataliesPassport yes it was..
Before you heading to Toraja you can visit : Bantimurung Waterfall and Rammang Rammang Village in Maros. For culinary : Konro Bakar ( grilled ribs) and Coto Makassar. Makassar is famous for its fresh seafood and there are many kind of fish. Near Losari Beach (behind the hospital) you can find many seafood restaurant such as New Dinar Restaurant etc. If you missed Pizza there is small authentic Italian Restaurant (the owner is Italian) called La Piccola Italy on those street ( Lamadukeleng Street). Enjoy your trip in Sulawesi.
Thanks for all the recommendations! ❤️ we’ll have a video from Rammang Rammang coming soon too 😍

indonesia is huge and so 'colourful'..different culture, habits, life style, and also different character, so if you visit one place to another, there will be alot of diversity..may be some place the people are nice, may be some place the people are irritable, etc etc..but actually, we are ready to help and nice,.stay safe and health..btw, near sulawesi in east kalimantan is maratua island, it's insanly beautiful..please check it out
It really is! We’re still amazed by how big and diverse Indonesia is! Everywhere we’ve traveled is so different 😍
Finally to South Sulawesi, Makassar, I hope you like the city. Makassar is indeed beautiful, what else is on Losari beach
Finally! 😍 we’ve been looking forward to Sulawesi for so long!
I am your loyal subscriber and viewer, don't disappoint me. you two have to go to raja ampat or i will be disappointed, come on.. you are now in makassar, the distance from makassar to raja ampat is very close you have to go there. go there or I'm disappointed. let's go there! ♡

CITY OF MAKASSAR AMAZING🇮🇩🎉
❤️❤️❤️
Actually, there are some places which are claimed as the center point of Indonesia And it's still being debated
such as:
- CPI (Center Point of Indonesia) in Makassar
- the stone in Umpungeng village in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi
- Balabalakang islands in Makassar Straits ±100 km from Balikpapan city (but they're part of Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi)
- and also our New Capital City Nusantara in East Kalimantan
7:52 the big statues that you saw before in Taman Mini actually are located in Lore Lindu National Park, Poso Regency (Central Sulawesi), but i didn't knew before that in south Sulawesi have the same thing in smaller version also
Anyway enjoy the trip in Sulawesi ❤
I guess it’s hard to find the exact center of 17,000 islands! Lol
We’d love to visit the big statues one day! 😍❤️
Woow. Makassar
😍😍😍
finally..welcome to sulawesi..😂

😱 we haven’t heard of the extreme market! That definitely sounds interesting!
@@NataliesPassport my guess that u ll go to Manado ... u can go to extreme market there also ... they sell any kind of meat, and u ll shock also ...
and u should go to Bunaken (dive there, it has a beautiful coral reef, probably the best in Indonesia)..
then go to Jesus statue (monument) ..
dont forget seafood .... their maindish is seafood ..
