Let's get a little bit more out this controversial car from WLToys.
Note: This video is referred to version 1 of WLToys 124017. (3400kv motor 27T pinion).
Actually WLToys updated the whole electronics.
GUYS IT'S OFFICIAL
WLToys updated the electronics on 124017 to solve definitely any cogging problems.
It will come with a 2845 4300kv and a 19T pinion.
Here's a link where you can get the new upgraded version:

Thanks for watching.
Good video tried mines today also that cogging I notice does it more when rc is stop completely and turning steering same time as hitting the throttle cogging is little more, if you start easy on throttle then go fast works good but besides that run mines with a 3s Lipo just screams fast.
Thanks for watching mate. Yes it works like that. The chance to run on 3s makes this little car more appealing for sure.
@@ViCatRC Wonder if all Wltoys 124017 came out bad from china warehouse, or just some cars had cogging, if it’s all Wltoys 124017 that’s not cool how can they sale something that’s not working properly and letting it go out to customers hopefully someone will come out with a fix not to expensive or replacing ese and motor that will be a bummer, The reason people got this car cause it’s brushless, that means they don’t have any quality control in Wltoys warehouses we stuck with this rc’s or have Wltoys send us parts what ever it is but good luck that won’t probably happen.
I don't know mate, I suspect that all the products are affected by this problem cause basically they overgearead a small motor, and a cheap undocumented governor makes it worse.
Unfortunately, it's a common practice nowadays of all companies, not just wltoys to launch products quickly, with minimal testing and being as cheap as possible with components to get a better gain margin. I have few cars now. Yes, some of them they are definitely better than others, but honestly, none of them satisfied 100% my expectations. And I am even talking about pretty expensive models, they should be the top, but they are far from it. So probably, the best way to afford this tricky market for final consumer, is reading or watching reviews as much as possible, evaluate other people experiences to figure out what you are going to buy.
@@ViCatRC 👍🏻
@@ViCatRC if your running this on 3’s what is the max AH you can use. I’ve just purchased one of these, although I won’t have it for a couple of weeks. I wanted to buy some 3’s so I’m ready. Also if I change the pinions will that stop the cogging, or is that in the motor? Thanks for the vid
Very informative in a short perid of time! Very good! Where to get such a "programming card" to change the configuraton?
Thanks for watching mate and sorry for the delay in the answer. Unfortunately I don't have a link about that, but you can easily find on amazon, aliexpress, bangood, depending on where you are. Search for Surpass Hobby programming card.
It needs a stronger motor or smaller pinion 👍
Yeah, definitely. Thanks for watching.
Will a 3650 motor help with not cogging anymore, but using a same size pinion as stock? Thanks!
@@yuding237 it could do but will depend on the KV, for example a 2600kv 3650 will be powerful but have less top speed, a 5200kv 3650 will be fast but with less power/initial pull. It’s finding a balance from battery power, gearing and ESC, this buggy is way over geared hence the issue. Smaller wheels could also help with the cogging and the opposite from adding larger wheels as this is all part of the gearing ratios 👍
@@austinscars8588 OK, I knew that, but I have yet to try a 5900lv 3650 motor, u know how aliexpress shipping is, haha
@@yuding237 I know, I have been waiting for the 3660 3500KV Rocket for 3 months now and it’s not even shipped yet
The clogging is a deal breaker. It's super annoying offroad
It's annoying anyway. A pity, cause the platform is good. There are different ways to work around it, but each way needs to spend further money. Ok for the modders that planned to change electronic anyway. Unacceptable for the most of consumers they expect a ready to run functional brushless car.
@@ViCatRC agree. Someone said replacing the ESC might help, but doing that plus maybe 3S and a new transmitter (the included one is fine expect the short range), that's another 100+$. All of the sudden it's not that cheap RC you were looking for, in that price range you probably would choose something else.
I recorded a series of videos to fix this issue. Replacing the esc helps but does not fix the problem totally. Unfortunately the high stock gearing is appealing for the top speed, but does not help at all with the small sized brushless motor they mounted, due to the high load charging on it.
So here the alternatives:
1) replace just the gearing, cheap but, not easy to find 0.7 pitch pinion, you need to tweak motor mount, you loose the magic of this little car, the top speed.
2) replace the motor with a 3650: that's a bit more expensive, but.. you need to be carefull about the amps the motor draws. 3650 motors draw more current than 2845 at same kv rate. You have to stay below 60A and high kv motors usually draw more than that.
3) most expensive, you decide to replace all, motor and esc. That for sure will be a game changer but who wants to spend other 80$ for the cheapest combo? I would not replace just the esc, cause due to the high gearing the stock motor would stutter anyway under some stressfull conditions. At that point you add other 20$ and you get a motor that will be good for terrain, tarmac, water and so on with no overload at all for it, the esc and the batteries.
Nice video. Where can I buy that esc programmer? And does it works with others wltoys cars?
Thanks for watching mate. Well, I usually do not post links, but this item you can find everywhere, on amazon, bangood, aliexpress and so on, depending where you live. You just need to search for "surpasshobby programming card".
This card works with all the new released brushless model from wltoys. Mainly cause the esc is a rebranded surpasshobby. On another escs brands it could not work. So it's specific for surpasshobby and if i am not wrong it should work with goolRC products too.
@@ViCatRC Thank you very much 🙂👍
What 3s would u recommend
I am pretty good with gens Ace. In my tests i usually plug a gens ace adventure 2200mA 50C and I am happy with it. There are even with more capacity but the caveat is they are a bit expensive. Personally I've got to say that where I do not use to save money are just batteries. They are vital to have a car performing good without stressing the electronics. Other people used Ovonics. Cheaper but fair good as well.
i already set my settings as yours and it works perfectly :0
Thanks for watching mate.
could u send me a link what 3s battery u are using ?
I am sorry mate, do not have link cause it was sold by my local seller. It should not be difficult to find this model depending on where where you live. It's a Gens Ace Adventure 2200ma 11.1V 50C. It's really a pretty good and performant lipo.
Break the shock mounts off in a minute. They don't last long. Drive like a grandma. Or else you'll become a collector of broken plastic. I know.
Thanks for sharing and nice run btw
It'd be nice to hear you talk about it instead of putting words up your words don't stay up there very long makes it hard to keep with what you're trying to get at hope that helps
Thanks for your feedback man. I totally agree with you.
Some concepts need to be spoken, expecially when they start getting tricky and need to be explained in detail.
I just started my channel in an anonymous way and I really was surprised to get my first 100 follower. I wouldn't have bet a cent in the beginning.
So yes, I think it came the time to comment in first person and abandone the subtitles, but I need a little time to get used and to be confident with it.
Just ordered 124017 v2, and after i see this cogging, im not happy :/
Hi mate. This video refers to v1. If you bought the v2 there is nothing to be worried cause changing pinion and motor they solved the cogging problem.
@@ViCatRC Thank you sir.... I ordered from Gearbest 124017 V2, German warehouse til Denmark. But they sending it from China. So know i must pay 80 dollar in toll/taxes :/ Thank you again for your answer :)
I've got the V2 and still have a small cogging problem to be honest. Can hear it grinding and the delay in start stop is annoying. I've ordered a programming card to see if I can do something with it. But tbh I'm a little dissatisfied with it.
