Formula 1 race director Michael Masi responded to Fernando Alonso's claims that there are different rules for different people when it comes to penalties

What F1 should do as someone said once somewhere, is to have consistent stewards and not change them race by race. Because each steward has their favourite driver, and we can see that quite often sometimes. And they should also look at the incidents in terms of the type, AND the outcome instead of just the type of incident. Because it seems like Max's was penalised for the outcome, whereas Lewis got a penalty based on the type of incident (not trying to create any drama but I feel it's true). Which also proves inconsistency if it is true

I think... we can agree on that... stewards are inconsistent, when it comes to make a decision on the incident itself or the outcome of it...

@@allaboutf1541 it just makes no sense to be honest, because what if you killed a driver, but because they don't base the penalty on the outcome, you only get say a 5 second penalty. Just seems ludicrous imo that it could happen sadly

F1 needs professional and permanent stewards. And a competent race director.

I'm Max's fan but Masi really messed up everything this season. The penalties were different for each team and that was completely unfair. His decisions confused me a lot of times. Abu Dhabi wasn't the first time he made mistakes. In Abu Dhabi also I still don't understand why lewis didn't give his place back to Max while Max penalized in Saudi Arabia.

I think Masi know that he penaultied max more than Lewis the hole saison. He want give max a oppotunity the set everything right. Saudi Arabia was also a bad decision that influenced the outcome. I think this played with the last decision. Not penaulting early in the race was also a moment where Masi regret it.

Decisions in most cases are always controversial especially when it's down to people making it. Take var in football for example. For most events, people still disagree even if the issue is years old with differing opinions on both sides. I think this is no different in F1 where a certain set of people may Judge a scenario harsher than others. In the end, i think we may have no solutions for the more complicated scenarios.

I do agree with that… different people will make different decisions for the same incident… but can’t they keep same stewards for every race, who might take similar decisions for most of the incidents and keep his actions in check but yeah..taking this decisions will not be any easy even after having same stewards for every race

If you do that as a steward you should be fired. Let's see who dares show partiality for any reason if it's their careers on the line

Why on the last decision if he makes the hole saison a mass. Saoudi Arabia was also a mess with the decision. Hamilton for example must having a penaulty earlier in the race. Nobody talked about it. Toto said nothing in the ears that is was unfair and didn't instructed hamilton to let Max first position in the rase. If it was a 5 or 10 second penaulty Max would win the race also. See The decision in the race before Saudi Arabia.
