Are the issues with a rendering in Tana something to do with the browser? Did you try alternative browsers? And it is possible to change the refresh rate for the screen on a per app basis in order to get a smoother interaction.
Yep, the Tab Ultra C is remarkably customizable. You can change refresh rates, color, and resolution for the device as a whole or on an app-by-app basis. What you see in this video are the settings that I found worked the best for each app, but even so they weren't perfect. Good point on the alternative browser, I didn't think to give that a try.
Change the color saturation, you can do that on each different application. The default for the web browser will wash out the colors that tana uses. If you fiddle with the color saturation you can see the little details. Do that with the default browser or install a different browser and make it your dedicated tana "browser". The same can be done in Readwise to make the yellow be a little darker so you can tell where you are highlighting. My main problem when typing in tana and I do a @whatever the next space doesn't allow me to type, can you test this and see if it is the same?
Do you have a Tab Ultra C? I did setup custom rendering for the built in browser (where I was using Tana). I got the page refresh down to where I liked it, though there were still latency issues which seemed more memory/cpu or even network-related. I could never dial in the color or saturation how I want, I was eventually able to get a very faint highlight around the #task tag - but it blew everything else out. No matter what reasonable setting I tried I couldn't get the checkboxes to render though.
I see a huge difference in performance on my laptop in some specific sites/web apps just by changing from Firefox to Chrome and vice versa. Trying only the Boox in-built browser for Tana is not representative at all. I have a Kindle Oasis to read on the beach, but I always wanted to have a bigger screen for reading, closer to hard cover books vs pocket and for this I love a 10'' e-ink device, this is why I had bought the Note Air2 and now the Tab Ultra C. The negative points that you find in this review do not correspond to the reality of this device.
@@KeliFancher you are very welcome, thank you for the reply and I would suggest you give the device a 2nd chanceif you feel like protecting your eyes or if they get tired from the iPad screens.
@@skipper63400 I definitely will, but if the performance issues I was seeing are caused by just using the native browser I'll still be disappointed in Boox. Just in a different way 😅
I feel like ALL eink technology will not be as responsive as a typical smartphone or ipad or android device. It's the eink tech itself, not anything to do with processor power or memory. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
You are absolutely right, well at least with the current state of the tech (and the foreseeable future as far as I understand it). The main issues I ran into in regards to latency though felt more like memory/cpu issues as the reading apps were fine. It was just the more intensive Tana and web loading that was the problem.
Kobo integrates Pocket. It's nice. I'm surprised Kindle didn't have a reader built in. Weird. Tana looks very beta. That keyboard ... i think I'd use a separate and larger keyboard. The device is actually super impressive. But, I'm not sure how the same distractions aren't there with this device as well. On an iPad, or Samsung, or whatever device, you have email, web, chat, etc etc. On the Boox device you have email, web, chat, etc etc. Even video is "good enough". Really the only limiting feature is low latency games. But then again, really, what full-grown adult needs that on a device?
Someone could use the Tab Ultra C in the same way as any other tablet (or similar at least). The distraction-free aspect for me would be that this device would be for specific use cases only (Reader, Comics, Tana) and only setup to do those things. The cumbersome nature of it also lends itself to focusing, it's just too painful after using an iPad to really want to do anything else. As for Tana, nope definitely not beta. More like alpha 😅. It's still in invite only release, but it's really stable. At this point it's the core app for everything I do. Sure there are some pain points, but much less so than the system I was previously using.
I mistaking purchased a Boox Tab Ulta C, it is indeed like going back to the 90's. For me the technology is still not mature enough and not usable as a daily business device. It's just too slow and the notes feature doesn't work with any other App. I personally would wait until this tech catches up with modern devices. I tried to return mine but Onyx were very difficult to deal with and kept on changeover the refined cost. I was going to lose well over $100 for returning it. I don't recommend the Boox devices.
Yeah, the return process is a nightmare! I guess we've been spoiled by Amazon and free returns, but 🤷♂️. I think at that cost it's better to try and sell it to someone for a small loss.
I use Notion for the same thing you do for Tana. And it all works great on my Boox Air 2. Looking forward to upgrade to the Boox Tab Mini C :)
Do you use Notion as a web app? Or do you use the native Android version?
@@KeliFancher I use the app, and I disable Master Switch. That gives the best view for my use.
