Question: How can we get mounts less expensive? The mount is often more expensive than the panels.
I've mounted solar on my steel cabin roof and used a much simpler method: 2 Shelf brackets at 90 degrees to the mounted to the roof and 90 degrees mounted to the panels and then bolted together. For roofing where you need to take tiles off the roof to wrap around the batons, try bending aluminium strips to an appropriate shape and get aluminium extrusion to mount to the top. It really doesn't have to be that complicated. High winds could be a challenge.
Thank you for a great interview. It would be interesting to know how they handle panels with pfas coating on the glass, and also backpanels made of pvf and fep that are plactic types which are hard to recycle.

I have driven past signs for this company visiting/passing Yuma and had no idea the scope. One little hole for the name is I assume the just recycle. Very cool they are so fully breaking down the non-reusable panels.
Great Channel - wish each video esp. interview went into HOW IT WORKS eg in this one how is battery recycled could include CHEMISTRY and commodities extraction.

12:50 So yeah, he dodged the question super hard here. There are companies out there that have crush and sort solutions where feed-stock is "coming out the other end" which can be easily refined and utilized in new products.
Suggestions for future interviewer. Remove glasses, glare was too high or it was sitting low.
I have a new enphase system, and am thinking about expanding it. Do I need to find used enphase panels, or can I use any used panels and hook them up to the system?
A quick look at their site , they recover a lot of aluminium copper and glass but don't even mention silicon. I caught in his voice that was something he did not want to go into. So where does the silicon go?
The panels sent to developing countries. Will they recycle them after a few years of operation? Their older panels already right? I would say no. Sounds a bit like outsourcing your land fill.
Is the solar panel roof on the carport leak? Doesn’t seem like a fair comparison to a regular roof.
I assume they'll be using some kind of waterproofing between the panels, and some kind of handling of drainage so the runoff doesn't pool.
Was going to invest in this company but after interview, I don't think so. Too many red flags.
How much does it cost me as a homeowner to recycle each panel, can not find anywhere that will actually give a number....I have no issues buying used panels for 50 bucks....if recycling them does not cost another 50 bucks....if that is the case....I am buying someone else's problems.
The current big issue for all of these green technologies is that consumers cannot partake in the EOL portion. battery recycling, solar panel recycling, and even e-waste recycling are difficult, if not impossible to do (also, it seems e-waste is not efficiently recycled and most end up in a landfill). I am doing what I can (solar, EVs, washing machine sheets, deodorant in cardboard packaging), but many people don't have the energy or frankly don't care and think pollution and climate change are all bulls**t.
Your team did a DI in the past on a company called Redivivus for battery transport making the materials inert so they could be transported to recycling facilities, my hope as a consumer and investor is that they can scale up and make transport of recycled battery materials cheap and safe. Just feel like we have been at the cusp of all of this for several years, but nothing has happened that the people can see.
well, the people that dont believe, arent going to be convinced either way. I mean, what would it take, a factory tour. The people that mockabout green tech etc, are often bots or hired to spread this anti-sentiment which is then picked up by people who dont know a thing. At the end of the day, people dont care about the environment but their bottom line and if that comes down, they're on board
So if we cut all the waffle and crap, there's about 30s of useful information here where he claims "we're at 99% recovery rate". He very quickly brushes over "there's silicon" like he does not want to get into that too much. If you weren't to into talking this up, you could have asked him some probing questions and we may have learnt something. It's great this is not all ending up in landfill but I want FACTS I can repeat to others , not evasive answers.
You are NOT going to find a 10yo panel producing 250W and replace it with one of the same size producing 350W. You guys have NO idea what you are talking about.
You sure can. You can do even better. 10 years ago panels were around 15% efficient. Panels are now pushing 23%.
That design on the 10 year old panel could be 5 to 10 years old when the panel was made. So we might be talking about a 15 to 20 year old design. Panels designed today, or in 5 years, could absolutely double output from a 2012 era panel that's also lost 15% of capacity.
