Ironically, having a black character in Fractured But Whole made the game easier because you had access to a surprising powerful artifact from Morgan Freeman in the 3rd Act as well as unique dialogue and situations because of your skin colour. The only ‘difficulty’ aspect was that you could technically fight cops at the beginning of the game, which isn’t recommended unless you’re trying to do a challenge, and the fight with the Eldritch monstrosity as if your character gets eaten, it heals it.
This is when the two head creators of South Park say if you dont make it how we want it. You won't be releasing it. Don't give Ubisoft a w. Give Matt and Trey a w
This is an Obsidian game, Ubisoft just published it. However, they did develop the sequel, which was just as hilarious. Thank Matt and Trey for being directly involved. That's why they're so faithful to the show.
Ok, so the thing why the South Park games were so completely different from Ubisoft‘s games nowdays is because the creators of South Park (Matt & Trey) worked directly with Ubisoft and basically had most control over the game to keep it true to the show as much as possible. So what you see here is Matt & Trey‘s humor worked with the forces of Ubisoft to be made real. Fractured but Whole was released in 2017, the same year as AC Odyssey which was essentially the first game that planted the seeds of Ubisoft’s lazy open world blueprint and that’s where they probably quit working together with Matt and Trey and that’s why Snow Day got a new developer, Question and THQ Nordic. So yeah, these games were the product of Matt & Trey‘s direction and Ubisoft simply helping them to actually make their ideas a reality.
I might be wrong but wasn’t Fractured But Whole (and I think this might have been the same case for Stick of Truth) only made (or published) by Ubisoft because they bought the studio that was making the two games. I think the reason why we didn’t get a third game in a similar RPG style was because Ubisoft (or it might have been some other factor) where hard to work with, which is why they went to THQ to make Snow Day.
Obsidian made Stick of Truth and Ubisoft made Fractured But Whole but published both. The creators of South Part said RPGs are harder to make so they wanted to do a more simple game. They wrote and directed both games.
The first game (Stick of Truth) was developed by Obsidian and supposed to be published by THQ (not the current THQ Nordic, the original one). When THQ went bankrupt, Ubisoft bought some of its IPs, including the South Park game that was in development. Ubisoft didn't buy the studio itself, just the IP. Obsidian got to finish the game and Ubisoft published it. The second game (Fractured but whole) is the one that was completely made by one of Ubisoft's studio (Ubisoft San Fransisco). The third game (Snow Day!) was part of a bigger deal between the South Park authors and ViacomCBS (Paramount). I don't personally know why THQ Nordic was chosen this time to be the publisher, instead of Ubisoft.
@@GoGicz South Park Digital Studio was involved in all the games, including "Snow Day!". They are mostly on the writing part though, for the game design part, the lead designers for each game were from their respective development studio.

@@grizzofeu653 I think the scenes depicting any Nazi imagery were censored in Germany, because German law only allows those images in "artistic works" such as movies, plays, books or TV-shows and doesn't actually recognize video games as art by any definition.

in fact its not made totally by them. The game is made by the South park Digital Studios with Ubi San Francisco, so one can just imagine Ubi going like "Please don't do this" and the devs from South Park said "No."
It wasnt even that long ago really. That game came out in the mid 2010s. Like only 10 years ago. Which might seem like a long time in your 20s but in company time thats nothing.
Ubisoft only published it. Obsidian were the devs. Apparently there is tons of finished content that Matt and Trey cut as well. Tim Cain has a video about it.
Ah I remember this series. Funny thing is that this is the sequel. The first game was made by Obsidian which was very well received and then the creators decided to go with Ubisoft. So basically another developer did all the hard work of laying down the initial groundwork of designing the game and the world and Ubisoft just expanded on that concept. I have heard the sequel wasn't quite as good as the first one but still pretty good. Rather surprised you are not aware of this game.
To be fair, Ubisoft was more of a publisher. Stick of truth was developed by obsidian and the South Park guys. The second game was made by Ubisoft but the ground work was done already. Don’t give Ubisoft too much credit for something that’s essentially a mod/expansion to a game made by other guys, everyone could have don’t that
To be fair, Trey and Matt had full control over the South Park games from Stick of Truth to The Fractured But Whole. There's also an achievement called "The Token Experience" for playing as a black character (Hard Mode) for most of the game.
That's cuz Ubisoft didn't make the game, Trey Parker and Matt Stone did. And since Trey and Matt do whatever they want without caring about the higher-ups or public reception, we got this hilarious joke, and many others like it.

The only reason why Ubisoft allowed this. Is because NOBODY says no to Matt and Trey.
Why wouldn't they allow it?
And because they weren't involved in creating the game in the first place.
Which is f'n awful trying to play solo
@@bloopy2042 the fractured but whole was also made by south park digital studio too not just entirely by ubisoft..
@@GoGicz South Park Digital Studio was involved in all the games, including "Snow Day!". They are mostly on the writing part though, for the game design part, the lead designers for each game were from their respective development studio.

Well, it was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and South Park Digital Studios, but it was, in fact, published by Ubisoft.
Apparently Parker and Stone had a different original title for the game but Ubisoft told them very explicitly that their original title couldn't be used because it had the word "butthole" in it. Parker and Stone thus came up with the title "The Fractured But Whole"to work around Ubisoft's rule.
