I don’t think the commander is meant to be JJJ...just because of a mustache, haha. We missed the Spider-Man comic reference for sure. Maybe we’ll make another one of these, Spider-Man specific, for when the next Spider-Man movie comes out!
@@JaelinBezel Funny enough, Static/Vergil reminds me of Spider-man/Peter. Both are high school super-heroes (the younger Peter is), both cracks jokes fighting bad guys, both struggle with dating/school/hero stuff, and both are pretty intelligent. Only difference is that Static has electricity powers and is black (only 2 differences).
The Annihilator Armor as seen in "Hawk and Dove", "Task Force X", and "The Balance", while based originally off of the Greek mytho of Talos, is a clear reference to the Destroyer Armor from Thor. In "The Balance", Faust controls the armor using his spirit just as the Destroyer only works when piloted by someone's life force (usually Loki's).
You guys forgot to mention the other reference in the "terror beyond" episode of JL. Where Hawkgirl saves Grundy and says "Now if you'll excuse me Hawkgirl Smash".
There were some visual cues, especially in "Batman Beyond" where they didn't try to hide the fact that the show was essentially Spider-man crossed with Batman. They recreated the cover to Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider-man) with a shot of teen Batman swinging on a line with a guy tucked under his arm (I *think* it was in the episode with the FF characters, but I may be misremembering), and they also had Terry stuck under the exact same shaped rubble as in the classic Spider-man comic sequence (a scene that was adapted in "Spider-man Homecoming"). Additionally, I remember a top secret spy base in a Justice League episode that was located under a barber shop which you had to sit in a chair to access... that's from classic Nick Fury issues. Beyond that, a lot of Martian Manhunter's intangibility moves in the show were staples of the Vision rather than things the comic Manhunter had done much.
actually i don't think the royal flush gang powers a meant to specifically reference the F4 but just marvel characters in general. 10 is more like luke cage, ace more like scarlet witch
There was another Spidey reference is Anasi's other episode... "So your the spider guy, huh? I kinda expected for you to come in swinging on a web."... "I get that a lot." Note: quote's may not be exact.
The Patriot Act also features a very Avengers inspired team: Green Arrow= Hawkeye Stargirl= Captain America Shining Knight= Thor S.T.R.I.P.E= Iron Man General Eiling= Hulk
Eiling is actually more similar to Ross/Red Hulk in his motivations and character portrayal. Superman can even be seen as his equivalent of Ross’s antimosity towards the Hulk.
Actually, it was a direct reference to a DC comic team, the Soldiers of Victory. Heck, all 7 original characters featured in the episode in some way: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Soldiers_of_Victory
4:32 There's a scene which pays homage to the Amazing Spider-Man comic books in the same episode. (It pretty much swaps Spider-Man with Batman on the comic book art)
Watching your videos is awesome because not only do I get fascinating facts about all my favorite characters, but I can also rest easy in the knowledge that I am not the only hyper-obsessive fangirl out there. There's people other than myself who like dissecting fictional histories 'till they drown in the void and theorize about people who never have and never will actually exist. Warms my heart.

It most likely has been stated before, but Captain Marvel is NOT a reference to Marvel. That was always the character's name before Marvel Comics was even a thing.
Doesn't look like an Ultron face to be honest. Looks like a mix between Eva units. Four eyes and head shape of Unit-02, Chin/jaw and eye shape of Unit-01. It's just a colour-swapped Evangelion ;p
Technically general eiling is more like red hulk. Also tantrum practically predicted Amadeus cho's version of the hulk. Also I know teen Titans the animated series didn't count as a dcau series but they also had a captain America reference with with red stars origin.
JLU's "Kid Stuff" has yet-another-Hulk-analogue Blockbuster. In "The Terror Beyond" Grundy refers to Hawkgirl as 'Bird-nose', which is what the Hulk used to call Nighthawk. I always thought the members of the Cadre seen (but not named) in "Clash" were vaguely Marvel-esque, with Black Mass/Crowbar/Fastball acting like a weird version of the Wrecking Crew along with Shatterfist as (take your pick) Man-Bull or El Toro Rojo.
You missed a few. Roland Daggett's design from Batman The Animated Series is clearly based on Norman Osborn. Also Derek Powers from Batman Beyond is more of a parallel to Norman Osborn, not the Kingpin. Then there is the New Batman Adventures episode The Cult of the Cat, where Batman and Catwoman end up confronting a cat-worshipping cult whose members wear a costume that resembles Black Panther, with claws resembling Wolverine. Also Bullwhip from the April Moon Gang is based on Omega Red, who has similar tentacles coming out of his hands. In the Justice League episode Secret Origins, J Allen Carter refers to the JL as "Earth's Mightiest Heroes",a tagline that the Avengers are called.
Totally did miss that last one! Derek Powers/Norman Osborn is a much better parallel, you’re right. The rest are more subjective similarities than straight-up “this was based on a Marvel thing” like the rest in this video. But good stuff!

what a marvelous video...can't believe I didn't notice those references before...well i was just starting to get into comics, thanks to both DC and Marvel animated universes...but a lot of those references were so on your face i have no excuse!
"Why didn't they make it like bullwhip from Batman Beyond (...)" Would that be better? His tentacles are basically like those of Omega Red and a bit of flair from Spidey's web-shooter.
I love beyond! but, a part of me can't fully love it knowing its existence preventing us from getting a Spider-Man 2099 show and left us with Spider-Man Unlimited, which i love, but, not close to a possible 2099 show.
There was also a reference to the Wizard of Oz in an episode of Justice league Unlimited. Do you think you could do a video on references to other media in the DCAU at some point in the future?
Bullwhip would be a rip-off of Omega Red anyway so it wouldn't matter where Chainlink's mechanical tendrils came from. LOL Shaggy Man looked exactly like Sasquatch. LOL I often wonder about "The Four Baldies" as I call them because the analogues get a bit incoherent. I'm referring to Darkseid, Mongol, Thanos and Apocalypse. They all look like variations of the same theme. In the end, everything's a copy of The Tick.... :P
since you mentioned how tantrum is similar to the hulk & general Eiling is similar to abomination, I wonder what a fight between them would look like. granted it'd probably be just general Eiling winning easily, but still.
Marvel need to get a track on there animated series. Freakazoid and Batman Beyond sorta has a spiderman back Storys.I would loove to see a Dcau version of Legion and The X-man Gifted.
In season 2 justice league star crossed #2 Superman picks up an electric hammer that’s looked closely to when he picked up thors hammer in the Jla/avengers crossover.
Hey guys! Nothing bothers me more than liking a song and not being able to find it. There's a ton of bangers in the Batman Beyond soundtrack for both the show and the "Return of the Joker" movie. One such song I was able to track down and add to my Spotify playlist was "Crash" by Static X and Mephisto Odyssey. I had no idea it was Static X until I looked into it. Really solid song that I listen to on my Industrial playlist. Another song though that I have not been able to find anywhere is one that is played when Terry is in the club. The song appears in both the film and the show. I can't remember exactly what episode of the show it plays in but in "The Return of the Joker" (HBO max's version, not sure what cut that is) at 11:02 minutes the song is played. There's a lot of the word "Woah" playing in the chorus. It's the first time we see Terry in the club in the movie, and he's falling asleep. I've looked online for it with no luck in both the show's soundtrack and the movie's soundtrack. I was hoping you guys might be able to put an end to the case. Maybe you guys could even make a video about the various iconic or lost songs from the DCAU? I think the music of that franchise is something that gives it a lot of it's personality and it's not covered a lot on UA-cam so I thought maybe it would be cool. If not tho, at leeeast lmk what that song is! Thanks guys, also sorry for any typos, I'm dyslexic (:
We have been trying to find it for a long time too. According to the closed captions on the movie, the lyrics are “Word up!” But that’s never been able to help us. Maybe someday we’ll interview the Dynamic Music Partners again and we can ask them!
There's also a Marvel character called "Shriek". She's one of the REALLY dark and edgy characters. Likes to hang out with Carnage, a demonic version of the Green Goblin (I think it's "Demogoblin" or something) and Doppelganger - a thing that looks like a monstrous version of Spider-Man with 8 limbs (not Peter as Man-Spider) She was in Venom 2, played by Naomie Harris. Didn't know she and Carnage were an item until that movie. Because I always thought she was Morbius' love interest. Because that's what she was in the tie-in game for Spider-Man 3. Tobey's Spider-Man got to fight her and Morbius at the same time
It was either in Batman: The Animated Series or The New Batman Adventures but i did see a building with the word Mephisto on it with a little devil logo right under it. I googled it and its called the Mephisto painting company.
It was so great they had jack Kirby in the show , he's king for a reason, even before superheroes, he did amazing work on war, horror, and romance That robot is more an eva ref
I have to admit, I didn't really know who commander steel or citizen steel were until Legends of Tomorrow came out. When I first saw the jlu finale, I was confused for a few years until I figured it out.
Did you know that in both marvel and dc universes the other universe is a fictional universe inside their universe...understand? In other words marvel is fictional in dc and dc is fictional in marvel. For example Spider-man jokingly says: "Yes. I'm Batman" in one of the comics and also in arrow they reference the mcu when they say about superheroes on a farm being from a movie.
and don't forget about that secret organization called The Vipers in Batman Beyond they're pretty much based on Hydra, another Marvel inspired villain is some villainess lady in TNBA wore a facemask because she thought she didn't look beautiful she strait up looks like Madame Masque and this one of Iron Man enemies coincidence huh, then theres Talia Al Ghul who looks just like Black Widow especially in that episode where her father possessed her body look at her outfit it looks shield-esque
At around 2:00 on the video Kara is handed a books saying gun now this is over analyzing but in fallout there’s is a book called guns and bullets...also the robot from legends resembles Eva unit 01 from neon genesis evangelian
I did ask Neal Adams about how he pronounces Ra's al Ghul and he yelled at me for five minutes. I don't recommend doing it and you shouldn't either 'cause getting yelled at by an art legend sucks. Until Batman Begins, the villain's name was always pronounced Raysh. That's the pronunciation Dennis O'Neil said his Arabic-speaking friend gave him, that's the correct Arabic pronunciation, and, most importantly, that's the pronunciation in the DCAU.
Had basically the same experience. Hadn’t heard about the Denny O’Neil pronunciation, just assumed it’s “Rahs” because Adams was so adamant. Interesting that they had differing opinions on it having created the character together.
I think the change in pronunciation in Batman Begins was to change the character's ethnicity. By changing pronunciation, the name no longer makes sense in Arabic, which probably made him more politically correct. Denny is on record saying he asked an authority on Arabic for the translation of "head of the demon" and was given Ra's al Ghul. In a podcast interview I heard with Denny after Batman begins, he confirmed that the 'Raysh' pronunciation is what he was given.
Cool! Good to know for the future, thanks Lynn. This page gives an interesting layout of reasoning you might like: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/981374-batman-arkham-city/62720674?page=1
That is interesting. I didn't know that about Arabic pronunciation. Neal is correct that in Batman Odyssey it's pronounced Raz, because he's the writer and it's pronounced how he says it is (which is what he yelled at me). I wanted to discuss it more in-depth with him, but he just kept yelling at me. Since Denny was the writer of the original stories, his intent, at least at the time, was Raysh, so I'm gonna go with that for everything published before Batman Begins. Anything from the New 52 on would probably be pronounced Raz 'cause it seems like that's caught on and if the info in the link is correct, is how it should be pronounced.

Awesome channel, glad I found it.
Jay Infinite Thanks!
Man I wish the fanboys where as chill as the company's man I wanna dc and marvel animated tv show
what a marvelous video...can't believe I didn't notice those references before...well i was just starting to get into comics, thanks to both DC and Marvel animated universes...but a lot of those references were so on your face i have no excuse!
When the General injected himself, he went Red Hulk minus the fire.
Check out our follow up video to this one!
Bullwhip's tendrils remind me of Marvel's Omega Red, now that I think about it.
"Why didn't they make it like bullwhip from Batman Beyond (...)" Would that be better? His tentacles are basically like those of Omega Red and a bit of flair from Spidey's web-shooter.
If Superman’s Luke Cage I’m the Punisher!!!
Legit when you were talking about the girl who controlled metal I said at the same time you said it " poloris"
Might have spelt it wrong
I love beyond! but, a part of me can't fully love it knowing its existence preventing us from getting a Spider-Man 2099 show and left us with Spider-Man Unlimited, which i love, but, not close to a possible 2099 show.
There was also a reference to the Wizard of Oz in an episode of Justice league Unlimited. Do you think you could do a video on references to other media in the DCAU at some point in the future?
Oh sure, we've had something like that on the list for a long time--if they could stop making DCAU movies for a sec, that would help... ;)
9:06 I feel like that's more of an Evangelion reference than a Marvel one. The mech has the same shoulder pauldrons as the Evas
Bullwhip would be a rip-off of Omega Red anyway so it wouldn't matter where Chainlink's mechanical tendrils came from. LOL
Shaggy Man looked exactly like Sasquatch. LOL
I often wonder about "The Four Baldies" as I call them because the analogues get a bit incoherent. I'm referring to Darkseid, Mongol, Thanos and Apocalypse. They all look like variations of the same theme.
In the end, everything's a copy of The Tick.... :P
5:56 I'm pretty sure Derek Powers is the Norman Osborn of the Batman Beyond Universe
Yeah, a couple people have suggested that. Much closer comparison!
since you mentioned how tantrum is similar to the hulk & general Eiling is similar to abomination, I wonder what a fight between them would look like. granted it'd probably be just general Eiling winning easily, but still.
Marvel need to get a track on there animated series. Freakazoid and Batman Beyond sorta has a spiderman back Storys.I would loove to see a Dcau version of Legion and The X-man Gifted.
I'll take the reference to the Infraggable Krunk!
There's an episode of Justice League where a kid is reading a comic book called Mutant Men
Which episode?
You missed senator carter/the white gooey alien Not called the imperium Calling the Justice league "Earths mightiest heroes"
Got that one in our follow-up video! ua-cam.com/video/OFWtywfMcWU/v-deo.html
In season 2 justice league star crossed #2 Superman picks up an electric hammer that’s looked closely to when he picked up thors hammer in the Jla/avengers crossover.
at 8:57 just before he mentions the eye of aggamotto, we see the wand of watoomb
Yep! I forget if we mentioned that in this video, but if we didn’t, we totally caught it in our second Marvel Easter eggs video!
A lot of the Batman Beyond ones just seem like they share common tropes.
the robot from 09:13 also looks like an Eva unit
darek powers is more of an analog to Norman Osborn than Fisk.
True! Good call.
Watchtower Database No problem! Also the argument coil be made that Luminus desing is similar to Marvels Multiple Man.
There's also a Marvel character called "Shriek". She's one of the REALLY dark and edgy characters. Likes to hang out with Carnage, a demonic version of the Green Goblin (I think it's "Demogoblin" or something) and Doppelganger - a thing that looks like a monstrous version of Spider-Man with 8 limbs (not Peter as Man-Spider)
She was in Venom 2, played by Naomie Harris.
I googled it and its called the Mephisto painting company.
in young justice there is a blatant spiderman clone voice acted by one of the spiderman voice actors
It was so great they had jack Kirby in the show , he's king for a reason, even before superheroes, he did amazing work on war, horror, and romance
That robot is more an eva ref
Barely starting the video but if teen titans go is not included in the dcau and I don’t think it is but they have so so many references it’s insane
Cant believe the if death be my destiny batman beyond moment
Im glad someone else noticed
This was wonderful to watch! Hilarious and entertaining! TY!
Man Of Martin Thanks!
Watchtower Database I got a response!
You get a sub and a bell ring!
🤜🔔!!!
OMG Warner Bros./DC Animation, Marvel/Disney, please give us a Justice League vs Avengers crossover.
Back when Detective Comics respected Marvel as a fellow comic book company
At 8:59 you can see the wand of watoomb
Totally! Good catch!
Wildcards is the name of a Superfriends Super Powers episode.... which featured the Royal Flush Gang
Damn never realized these references gosh the intro was great
and don't forget about that secret organization called The Vipers in Batman Beyond they're pretty much based on Hydra, another Marvel inspired villain is some villainess lady in TNBA wore a facemask because she thought she didn't look beautiful she strait up looks like Madame Masque and this one of Iron Man enemies coincidence huh, then theres Talia Al Ghul who looks just like Black Widow especially in that episode where her father possessed her body look at her outfit it looks shield-esque
I think Talia is just coincidence, and Kobra is an established DC supervillain/gang. But we’ll have to look into that Calendar Girl comparison!
At around 2:00 on the video Kara is handed a books saying gun now this is over analyzing but in fallout there’s is a book called guns and bullets...also the robot from legends resembles Eva unit 01 from neon genesis evangelian
Roland Daggett from Batman TAS bears a striking resemblance to Spider-Man's Norman Osborn.
I wouldn't say 'Lord' is a synonym for 'Doctor' - they are completely different titles.
And let's not get started on "Arrow" going back and forth between the two...
9:06 I noticed Evangelion reference!!!😆 and some one in the DCAU team is a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion and it’s franchise.😏
Since from when Lord is a synonym of Doctor?
The Doctor (from Doctor Who) is a Time Lord. LOL.. That's the best I could come up with.
