@@15jewjew No, the question is if the Democrats even want to protect our border. They opposed Trump's every move to lock down the border in 2016. Kamala Harris said it was her priority to oppose any border action that Trump wanted to take. She said that she believes illegal migration should be decriminalized, and that we should abolish ICE.
Why should we believe that she's changed her opinion on any of this?

    • @15jewjew

@@andrewpage8759 Well Democrats have done things about the border and Obama was even criticize for deporting more immigrants than George Bush. Either way Kamala supported a bill that was a bit of a compromise. She has changed her stances and have listened to when the people critiques her. Trump wasted billions of dollars on a fence that Mexico did not pay for. He failed in his promise. Kamala actually raised money in pledges for countries in both America and Mexico to create jobs and allow for better opportunities for immigrants. That way they may not have to leave their country. She's worked for solutions that will work in the long run and knows how to compromise so that America can get a solution to border control. Even if it doesn't align 100% with her world view or beliefs she still knows how to be a team player and work with others for better solutions. Trump's biggest stance has been immigration to the point he's willing to lie and say immigrants are eating cats and dogs. He also said Kamala wants to perform trans gender operations on the immigrants. Sorry, but conservatives or liberals, Democrat or Republican. Trump isn't the guy for the job. To some degree we need immigration as many countries that have strict border laws suffer cause they don't have enough man power in the country or work force.

@@andrewpage8759 and trump shot down the biggest bipartisan border bill in years, whats your point, Trump doesnt want to solve the so-called "border crisis", and you can allow paths to citizenship legally while stopping illegal border crossings. Again if you have more judges to process assylum cases you literally solve the problem, most people that come in here and are labeled "Illegals" got in the country legaly by applying for assylum, but without an actual assylum case, they are literally taking advantage of the fact that we have a backlog of assylum cases. Since assylum is possible, they are allowed to stay in the U.S while their assylum case is pending, it is literally an international crime to return individuals to countries where their life or liberty may be at risk. If the process was faster, and more efficient, actual cases of assylum could be let in legally while others would be turned away before they are allowed into the country for years while they wait for a trial date.

      1. The border crisis is caused by Biden and Kamala.
      2. President can close and secure the border by executive orders. But Biden and Kamala didn't do so.

@@patrickbateman1660 No, it did not have all the votes. Otherwise, the bill would have passed. In fact, the bill didn't even have support from all Democrats in Congress.
Furthermore, there is no direct, factual evidence proving that Republicans voted against the October 2024 border security bill solely because of "Trump’s call". Suggesting otherwise ignores that, as a whole, the Republican party believed the bill did not address the urgency and severity of the immigration crisis.
Provisions like "shutdown authority" only after 5,000 encounters per day were seen as too lenient, and there was a strong desire for more immediate, stringent border controls. Furthermore, some Republicans opposed the inclusion of foreign aid, especially for Ukraine, tied to the bill, viewing immigration and foreign policy as separate issues (In my opinion, rightfully so).
Unfortunately, @wsj lacks the commitment and journalistic integrity for fair, unbiased reporting. Otherwise, they would have referenced the reasons why the bill did not pass instead of phrasing it in the biased manner in which they did.

The economic effects of immigration, both legal and illegal, is greatly exaggerated. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, there isnt a single state which can fill all it's unskilled labor positions. In fact, even border states can only fill 90% of their unskilled labor jobs. Empirically, illegal immigrants cannot be the cause of a job shortage: When a person takes an unskilled job, if they are poor they must spend all their earnings, given the extremely high prices on everything they need to survive. In doing so, they create demand for products and services that can only be filled by hiring workers. So, every person who takes a job, creates roughly one net job through their demand for product. The negative economic effect of illegal immigration is that they get paid off the books, which contributes to the depletion of the social security and medicare funds. But getting paid that way also has its upside for consumers, which is lower food prices, by the same amount. It's really only a matter of who loses, with old people losing more through illegal immigration than young people. But hey, everyone hates boomers these days and republicans already want to end the Social Security system anyway, so they dont actually care. The narrative is only being used as a nationalistic method to bolster support for a party that increasingly has to exaggerate and lie to win elections.

All past mass migrations, from Ireland, from China, from everywhere, were boons, despite Nativism growing as a response each time.
The "takin' jerbs" argument is weak, as it ignores the fact the free market will create more jobs to provide products and services for a larger population, and provide a labour influx for new economic ventures, like small business startups.
