You say that ”you can cable connect it”. How do you do that. I thought its only possible with Android. In a static situation that would be very good. Thanks
Hi, at the time of reviewing I wanted a wireless solution and couldn't it to work with my mobile, which was a Samsung S9. I now have S23 Ultra and I think it will work so I'll give it a try and let you know. Did you want a better viewfinder or to control the camera?
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency hi. I actually use my iPad pro for monitoring and it works almost perfectly… its just the sudden drops in connection that bother (not much but a bit). If one could connect the camera with a cable it would be perfect for the situations where you’re not moving… with the ipad you’re also on the safe side with battery life. In my mobile set up I use the Smallrig vb99 for charging camera, mc pro and iPhone👍🏼. The Monitor + is one step from perfect: it needs playback capablity (Sony helloo) and cable connection just in case you want it…😜
Sounds sweet. Ilderton devices need an OTG converter. Newer devices should connect but might need OTG turning on. Let me know how you get on. I'd be interested to know.
Well, I wouldn't rely on it at all as you're reliant on your mobile screens colour balance and they vary. Even your camera screen can be unreliable. We have 4 Blackmagic 6k cameras at Church and one screen is a little different to the others but with a few tests and checking on a calibrated computer screen has taught us how to make the slight adjustment for that camera. So for you at the moment, get it right in camera first and use Monitor app for other uses. Hope that helps.
Tim, nice video. The one thing I want to know is what controls you have for exposure, this would be what I want most so I can see how many stops under or over exposed I am ?
Thanks Joes. You have all the controls for exposure, ISO, shutter, apperatuture. You can then see zebras, false colours. I think this is the best way of using it. I use it particularly if I'm not by the camera. For tracking there's too much delay and for that I use the Acsoon M1 which is perfect but you can't control the camera. You can check out out here ua-cam.com/video/0tPfXrPK7qQ/v-deo.html
how are you having the tracking focus on this app? i have it enabled but it only works when i use my camera screen the tracking. other than that the app only lets me click where i want to be in focus but no tracking
Hi, yes this seems to be the way with all monitors. I've just tried it withe the Accsoon M1, I've just reviewed this if you've not seen the video, but it is the same. Accsoon will let me see the focus area but then I loose the camera screen so can't operate the touch focus. If I have the camera and monitor screen on by turning off HDMI display then I don't see the focus area on the monitor. So your phone with any system won't replicate the touch screen. I think the bottom line is use the monitors and camera screens together. Hope that answers your questions.
Have you tried using the latest version of the app with an iPad (asks a man with tired eyes)? Trying to avoid the expense of a Accsoon M1. Enjoyed the video. Thanks!
Hi Tom. I don't have an ipad but it should work exactly the same. I use this and Accsoon for different reasons. Monitor + is good for remote contro and using away from the cameral but lags too much to rely on. Great for a second camera or self tape. Accsoon is great in the moment and you can record your menu as you use it, great for teaching. As it's wired it's a perfect monitor but you can't control the camera.
Can I take pictures through the eyepiece and share/show the picture with the monitor on an iPad?? I hate turning my camera around so kids can see pics I take.
No it doesn't show video or still image playback. It will give a live view only. For your purpose i use the SMART SHOOTER 4 app on my Mac book for tethered shooting. Its about $£69 but I couldn't work without it and you can also link it into Lighthroom. tethertools.com/product/smart-shooter-4/
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency thank you. I just struggle with letting kids look at my camera and touching it. I hope this works. I need it to save pics to my camera the way it has always worked but I just need iPad to mirror the playback mode. That way their need for instant gratification is managed without them touching my camera.
@@TMcK-yh2wj Hi, I'm sorry but I don't think you'll be able to do that. If you don't want to tether to a computer why don't you just use an hdmi cable to a camera monitor on top of the camera and face it towards them or hdmi extension to a TV (the problem there is they won't look at you)
Hi Charlie, is the drone off? Sounds like you've been looking at the preview and haven't downloaded the files to your phone. I have a video on that if you've not done it before.
Hello mate, I think even if there was the latency and quality would never work. The way you can definitely do it is using the Accsoon, which I've done a video on. ua-cam.com/video/JniiLoKKC44/v-deo.html
Sorry for late reply. You need the paid version. Click the 3 dots on the bottom right of the screen, scroll down until you see LUT, click the arrow on the right and at the bottom it says import LUT files, you can navigate to eg your drive and import. Done :)
I just bought this through my iPhone and it connects fine, But I cannot unlock the functions on my iPad? Does anybody know how I can switch back and forth if the case is I cannot use it on both of my Apple Products? I cannot find that information anywhere? Thanks
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I was using it on my Sony A6300 with DJI Ronin SC i thought why is my video so shaky. Does your camera have the same problem? P.S. I'm now using a micro HDMI to Full-Size HDMI with a 1080/30p usb capture card and put that in my phone with sony's External Monitor app. Nice review btw!
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I am using an older iPhone 6s and the battery drain is quite dreadful. I wonder is the battery drain when using wired significantly less. have you tried using the Raveneye (DJI)?
I can never get this app to work. It says "connecting" continuously and when I hit "Tap to connect" it says I am already connected but nothing but the connection screen ever shows up on my phone. I'm using both the ZV-E10. What am I doing wrong?
Great look at this app, thank you! I'm on the fence currently over buying the Sony A6400, and though the Monitor+ page says it only works with the wired connection with the A6400, I'm trying to determine how effective the app will actually be. I shoot overhead on a desktop and absolutely need some sort of remote control for things like manual focus, peaking and start / stop recording. Hopefully this app will do the trick. Thanks again for this review!
Hi, If you're shooting overhead I'm guessing you might be doing some product photography and would benefit from being tethered to your computer. I recommend using SMART SHOOTER 4 by TETHERTOOLS. You can also connect that to Lightroom to white balance, crop, etc. With SMART SHOOTER 4 you can control the camera. To be able to zoom you would need a remote controller. If you've not seen it I demo one here ua-cam.com/video/Zi2QNkDJpx0/v-deo.html Hope this helps. PS consider going full frame like A7C you can get well-priced imports if you can wait for delivery :)
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency Thanks very much for your quick reply! I actually have been using a tethered Canon APSC for product photography and it works very well with RAW images on the Mac. I'm now though looking to do more video work on my YT channel. I've been using a phone camera, an LG G6, which had good manual controls built in, no 3rd party app needed. I'm now looking though to go with a dedicated camera for the video work. I recently bought, and returned, the Lumix G7 as the Panasonic app was... unreliable for me (putting it mildly) after just a few days of intensive testing. I wasn't even aware of the A7c, have just read and watched very good things on the A6400 to this point. I figured at my budget point with lens, I'd be in the A6xxx range. I just want to be able to pop the camera overhead and "almost" forget about it, using some sort of remote like a phone or tablet to control the things that are important to me. I'm sort of looking for a custom setup at a mass produced price :) I'm hoping the Monitor+ app is close to this.
@@Raildig I think Monitor+ will work fine for you. It helps that Sony have such good AF. I don't believe you'll be able to zoom in without a remote controller and you will need to be tethered so you'll need to check your phone has OTG or you can add a USB OTG to connect to.
@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I'm optimistic about this app now, thank you. Now just want to wait a week or two to see if they Black Friday the A6400 :) I'll likely go all in and pick up a mid range 10" tablet for an even larger remote display. Thanks again for your input here, it's appreciated!
hi, i downloaded the app on my samsung s22 ultra but as soon as i connect my sony a7III the video played in the app jerks or the application crashes. What could be the problem?
It is a little laggy compared to a connected monitor. You can connect using a cable to fix this. So really it has its limitations when using it wirelessly. Great for checking composition, focus peaking and exposure and being able to control all your settings. Quick note, I have since discovered I loose eye-auto focus in 4k when connected using smartphone, 1080p works fine. You'll still have face detection though.
I wonder how it stacks up again using something like the DJI Raveneye?
That would be a good comparison

I have done this but you need to use a screen recorder app. They seem to all be paid apps with a trial period but work well for eg a tutorial.
