- After reading the humiliating speech given by John Redmond at Woodenbridge encouraging the Irish Volunteers to join the British Army, O'Higgins was red-hot with anger as he penned these lyrics. Soon this song was known, recited and sung throughout the length and breadth of Ireland.

As an American, I have much respect for the Irish nation.
Love Irish-Americans, from Ireland!
Sadly, I have very little Irish ancestry, and have more English ancestry than anything, but my ancestors chose to live in a republic and not under a blasted parliamentary monarchist regime.@@hegemonYT
@@Beorthere That's one thing we have in common then hahaha
💯 Irish American.
I'm Irish american but don't wanna live in the USA but Ireland sucks rn
'When it is said that we ought to unite to protect our shores against the ‘foreign enemy’, I confess to be unable to follow that line of reasoning, as I know of no foreign enemy of this country except the British Government and know that it is not the British Government that is meant.'
James Connolly; trade unionist, socialist philosopher and Irish solider.
Up the I.c.a
All this needs is British combat footage from Operation Banner (1969-2007 British deployment to Northern Ireland)
If this was written was at the time of Redmond then Pearse and Connolly and Barry would have not died yet so obviously Declan Hunt added his own words
That's a good observation. O'Higgins wrote the additional verse in 1924 after the defeat of the Republican forces during the Civil War. With the outbreak of World War II, the song was republished as above in the Wolfe Tone Weekly.
@@brianohiggins9029 lots of our songs have been changed to suit the current narrative, like our Gaelic language rewritten in1926, anthem words changed when it changed to the New Gaelic now called another new name. It's a way used by colonists around the world to deny the true history
@@tommercury3349while yes, that happens, adding new lyrics can sometimes be good. Even Irish rebels changed the lyrics of Óró sé do bheatha bhaile to 'fit the narrative' of their time. Which was, as most people would agree with me, a good narrative. Same goes for this song here
You're not allowed to say who their current enemy is
Sure you can. Don’t be a pussy. Say it with your chest.

This sound very similar to Wearing of the Grey
As an enjoyer of Confederate music, i immediatly recognised the melody.
Which song does the CSA use this in?
@@notascientist709 "Wearing of the Gray"
@@olekcholewa8171how detestable that white supremacists should taint this wonderful tune with their evil andnwicked cause. Is there no end to their moral depravity?
@@seekingabsolution1907 you do realize that the majority of Irish nationalist didn't want any foreigners in Ireland, including my grandfather and his father,
It’s the same tune as rising of the moon…which came first?
the tune is older than that, it was first used in "the wearing of the green"
And "wearing of the Gray"
This song is very much relevant now except
Never forget that Michael Collins was murdered by a sniper from the RIC and who was trained by the British.
Collins was shot by an Anti-Treaty IRA member…
The man that was speculated to kill Michael was actually a ex-sniper for the British army. He switched side, He is most common believed to be the man that struck Michael but he wasn't the only one. A driver that was with Michael in the convoy later switched to the anti-treaty forces after Michael died, he is also speculated as the man that killed him during the time.
