The Fuggerei in Augsburg, Germany is the world's oldest social housing complex still in use.
It was founded in 1516 by Jakob Fugger the Younger and rent has always been one Rheinischer Gulden per year (or )equivalent to €0.88...88 cents!!! The conditions to live there remain the same as they were 500 years ago: three daily prayers - the Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, and the Nicene Creed, one must have lived at least two years in Augsburg, be of the Catholic faith and have become indigent without debt.
Not mentioned is the ability to tolerate thousands of tourists tramping around your property (although the gates are locked at 10pm every night so not 24hrs of tourists.
