  • Jerusalem artichokes are a little known vegetable that is incredibly versatile and easy to grow! It is a low maintenance perennial plant that produces tubers that are a great potato substitute. Let me tell you about this great addition to your garden!

Thanks for the advice! Here on the drought stricken west coast, Jerusalem artichokes need to be babied through the hot dry summer. Just made a new bed that will get some afternoon shade hoping they'll do better. I like having perennial edibles.

Good plan with the afternoon shade, probably some mulching too to reduce water loss. Best of luck!

Every Jerusalem Artichoke video I watch mentions how invasive they are. I've tried twice to grow them with no luck. Lol. Going to try ordering from a different company this spring.

I have had a little bit of trouble with them too, not because they wouldn't germinate but because the squirrels would dig them up and eat them! They do also take a while to sprout in spring and the tops are a favorite of rabbits. Sigh. So, I keep them surrounded in fencing and covered in hardware cloth in the fall/winter. Best of luck!
