Storm needs to get his head down. She needs to relax sit up and he’s got to be slower in the jog and slow or in the loop. Three people in the class she got third.
I agree with you but she’s a kid with low confidence. It was cold and windy and she had a good time all while building her confidence. That’s the most important part.
Yup! Last in a group of people riding western far longer than herself. She also got a first and placed 6th in an open glass with seasoned adults. All great accomplishments! Super proud of her!
Imagine being surprised that someone has to place last in a class. Don’t be bitter. Sophie hasn’t been doing western long and consistently. She’ll get there in her own time. It isn’t all about winning👋
It really isn't about winning Leah! Just seeing her be so happy and relaxed out there was a win for me!
Ha, the “steady hands“ one is actually pretty smart and I think that’s something that Sophie might want to do regularly at home. The reason why it all spilled when she tried to lope is because she always leans forward when she asks for the lope (and a little bit during). Practising with a water cup at home might help her fix that and really stay upright.
She definitely plans to practice!
Sorry but also being in Canada ( Ontario) they don't need to be in a Shank.
Really? This is what we were told! What bit do you use that is show legal? I've heard this from more than one person. I would l9ve it to n9t be true
@@DayByDayVlogs
I looked up the rulebook, this is from the 2016 edition for Canada, Ontario.
14. Junior horses (five years old and younger) competing in western pleasure,
reining, western riding, trail and western horsemanship that are shown with a hackamore or snaffle bit may be ridden with two hands on the reins.
15. Senior horses (six years old and older) competing must be shown in a suitable western curb bit and be ridden with one hand.
16. Any horse of any age, shown in any separate novice level junior/youth or
novice level amateur class may be shown in a snaffle and ridden with two hands.
There are many types of curb bits, including the shanks and tom thumbs. With Sophie still having the habit of fiddling with her hands I would go for a really small curb bit, that has close to zero shanks. Show bits can be pretty, yes, and they can be similar in the mouth piece to english snaffles. Go for a curb bit that has either one or two breaking points and not a straight "rod of metal" as the mouth piece. Cheekpieces are the other variable and those have the curb effect.
The longer the shank and curb, the harsher the bit is. You need steady and soft hands for those. Sophie is still young and learning so with that bit you may end up with sores in Storm's mouth if she fiddles with the reins too much or uses them harshly.
I appreciate that so much! Thank you! I'm excited to share that with her coach!
Just and observation: whenever Storm broke canter during the fair videos it was because Sophie wrong legged it and Storm picked up counter canter.
It may be good for Sophie to practice canter transitions more at home, so it won't happen at the next show and she'll get better placements.
Thats funny! She lost a game because she couldn't figure out how to counter canter lol!
Tom thumb bits are just not good for horses and even if it was storms previous owner who used to have him in the bit I personally would still ask vets opinions and also do more research on the type of bit before deciding to use the bit
Our vet doesn't give bit advice ! Storm did ok with the bit change but we will definitely be looking for an alternative now that we have time to figure it out!
Good job Sophie and Storm! Your first Western and fair style show was such a good experience and training example for the future! As far as your equipment (bit), ask a judge! They will usually be happy to explain it and how strict they are about different levels of shows. ❤🐎
Thank you so much!
I like Western Pleasure for Sophie. She looks way more engaged and relaxed. I really hope she keeps at it because she's showing potential. Like you said: it's all for fun anyway. Well done Sophie and Storm.
I hope so too!
During western pleasure she needs looser reins. Shes used to english where theres a tighter rein. His head needs to be lower. Something to work on before next show. Not hating. Just an observation. Good job Sophie
Absolutely!!!!
Congratulations Sophie you were awesome doing your first western pleasure show on storm.
Sophie did very well, if she puts some time in and got a less lazy horse, I think she could really excel! She just looks so much more relaxed in the western ring. There is also so much more variety in western classes. Tell her congratulations and GREAT job! I can’t wait to watch her grow and improve even more.
Thank you! To get storm to really step up, she would need spurs, and she won't use them and I'm.ok with that. Your so right about the variety! Her heart is still with jumping but she definitely wants to continue learning what she is. It's been helping so so much!
@@DayByDayVlogs please don’t misunderstand my comment, I ADORE Storm, he’s just been dulled I think from his time as a lesson pony. He’s never much cared to move out. I think horses like him are absolutely invaluable, especially when you have grandchildren coming up. He’s that perfect pony for young or beginner beginner riders. At this stage if Sophia could find her a well trained pleasure horse that maybe has done some jumping that would be ideal. I wish I still had Sonny, he would be PERFECT. Lol, and I think he was her dream ‘color’ he was a palomino Appaloosa with a huge blanket on his bum.
Oh, I didn't! I knew exactly what you meant! I agree. He really is lazy! It would be easier for her to learn on a horse that she didn't have to try and get moving all the time! I definitely value your comments and thoughts! You always weigh your words carefully and are honest and always say what you think in order to help! I got you!
@@DayByDayVlogs thank you ma’am I try very hard lol
Bravo Sophia! I'm so proud of you. You're a little cowgirl now. I loved your outfit. Laura says, "We are not the steady hand family" 😂🤣 I always loved the games. Try riding in a canter or gallop even & hooking plastic rings on your arm as you go around while they time you.😂 There is a lot of fun things in western. Laura, thank you & Sam for taking the girls to the fair. You're the best mom!
Awe! Thanks!
It was fun watching Sophie & Storm in the wester classes. The games looked like a lot of fun. It may have been more enjoyable to watch from inside my nice warm house. I thought Sophie did really well for someone who has only had a little exposure to western riding. I can't believe they had lawn mowers or go karts racing next to the show arena during the show. Can't wait to see the next show.
They absolutely did have lawn mower races next to the horde show, lol!
Way to go Sophie yay awesome I’m proud of you my daughter did both English and western keep up the great work
That's awesome!
Also noise shouldn't bother a true show horse. Look at mustang makeovers. I have never been in a class that small, they were always canceled due to lack of entries. Even play days.
Yay! You did amazing Sophie, Congratulations👏👏👏 You both looked relaxed and better balanced in the western saddle and your happiness shone through you after each class which was delightful to see🥰 Storm is a wonderful boy who was obviously very well trained as it can often take years to get a horse to his level. You've had some great advice in the comments👍 How long is it since Storm competed in Western? I really look forward to your second western comp. - remind me what date that is? 😉🥰
He really has done a lot. Previously, he competed at the congress level! So definitely way more trained than we are. Even without our skill he seems to be able to remember enough to get by lol! He truly is such a good boy!
I remember the egg race. Had to balance a raw egg on a spoon while riding, one trick was to shake your egg really well before starting, it would break the yolk inside the shell so it would stay steadier in the spoon.
Ha! I'm going to remeber that!
Great job Sophie and storm. I'm sure there was a time not too long ago, that she would maybe not have even got on and in the ring with that kind of weather and the flapping and sounds. She did so well with the western for only having ridden in that bridle once. She got a little tense with the reins sometimes, but I'm sure with practice she'll learn to keep the hands forward and soft. I'm so proud of them for going out there, having fun and tackling any fears head on. Congratulations, and I love how Gabby is so willing to help Sophie learn how best to ride stormy and Julia with Gracie.
Thank you! Absolutely, there was a time she wouldn't have felt comfortable in that environment, but not only did she go out there and ride, she was having so much fun! She was so sad when it was over. She didn't really seem to care it was a competition, which was what seemed to make the difference for her and take away her nerves. It was like she was just trying everything out for fun, and it took the pressure off.
this was the best i have ever seen her ride!!’ regardless of the noise, she kept her cool and looked so quiet with her hands and body!! beautiful!
Yay!!!
Sophie looks amazing just more leg next time and maybe a different bit well down sophie
This was fun
I think Sofia has found her niche ❤❤❤
More western pleasure
Thank you!
So so proud of Sophie she did an excellent job her and storm look awesome out there congratulations on your ribbons as well your cash winning two. You go girl keep up the awesome work. 😊😊😊
Thank you!!!!
Hope you're proud of yourself, Sophie! You deserve all the praise you are getting in these comments. Good for you! You also have a super horse in Storm and it was a pleasure to watch you two together! ❤👍
Thank you so much!
😊👍
Sophie did so well. Both her and Stormy should get extra points for handling such a challenging show atmosphere...Flapping, Flag Monsters, Scary Ride Monsters, Lawn Mower Racing Monsters.. OHMY!!!!
Hahaha so many monsters! Only one not happy about it was gracie lol!!
Sophie looks much more comfortable and confident in western pleasure 🥰
Sophie should really learn how to sit it hurts storms back since she is constantly bouncing
Its called light seat and even though it looks like she's bouncing... she's actually hovering...hunters is ridden Primarily in light seat and posting trot. Hope that helps!
I know what light seat is I’ve ridden for 7 years if she light seating then her body wouldn’t be bouncing and in some parts she did posting trot so ye and if u look in canter u can definitely see her bouncing 😅
You can also see the other girls doing sitting trot and they aren’t actually hurting the horse
Congratulations Sophie and Storm you both should be happy and proud of yourselves . Awesome job! 💜💜💜💜🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰🥰
So much fun! I'm happy that she had fun and tried a bunch of different classes.
Me too!
Good for you Sophie you did great
Western riding is a lot of fun
There is also an egg and spoon fun class instead of water glass
Storm is a great horse😊🐎
Lengthen your reins he will give you a better ride. Your English has kicked in. Heels down seat deep. Second class same lenghten reins heels down and hands down just adove horn. And your left hand is bend across your tummy and and hold your jacket or shirt with a finger. This will keep your hand still. Great job on command. Hint for steady hands. Lean slightly forward with your glass in front. Long reins so Storm will slow speed and smooth out trot and lope. When you stop bring your water hand so the water wont come out. Good job. Storm was fine.
I suggest to watch the other riders the gentleman that turned in the camera see how he sat in the saddle and where is water glass was. And were is rein was on the turn and on the other riders where there hands were on the reins and position. Always compare with other winners and how they placed.
I think I know this judge. If she is who I think she is. She is awsome.
Storm did well at the far end he knows his job. Just have to get Sophie up to his level. Storm will not hurt you Sophie.
Hope you continue. I hope you watched the trail class. So you can practice some of their obstacles. Take advantage of showing youth. This is the best way to learn lots. More than at adult classes. You have a great advantage over adults that start after the age eighteen. They are competing against professional or seasoned Riders.
Great Job. Cant say it more often. 💐👍🍰
I absolutely agree. Sophie just needs to get up to storms level! I believe she can!! We did watch everyone else. You could tell the people and horses that were seasoned pros and they looked amazing!
@@DayByDayVlogs don't be afraid to ask me anything. The judge really liked them.
Yay!
Congrats Sophie and Storm ..you guys did great ..look forward to seeing more western pleasure in the future 😊...both you and Storm seemed to enjoy and were good at it 🏆🎉😊👍
They really did enjoy it! I think fairs are definitely storms speed!
Shank bits are no different from a snaffle so dont feel bad. Shanks are for light contact and mire body useage of the rider. Makes soft hands
Thank you! She was definitely doing her best to keep her hands forward out there!
Well done Sophie you looked more and more confident as the day went on and how good was storm to cope in that atmosphere.. my horse would of lots the plot.. good job 👏
Lol. All the horses were so good In that experience! I was surprised myself!
Well done, Sophia and Storm 🎉ive really enjoyed watching your show. 🐎 ❤
Yay!! I'm so glad!
That's a good lookin' pair there, Sophie & Storm!!! This is his element. Sophie, I luv watching you two together. I like the Western saddle instead of the English for this.
The shanked bit isn't bad at all as long as the rider is aware that it works by leverage, so you should barely have to apply pressure. After some time together, Sophie will see she does not even have to use the rein pressure. Speed control and direction actually comes from your seat and leg. That's why you can find experienced riders on horses going along without any bridle whatsoever yet, still navigating jump courses, or very agile patterns, or high end dressage movements.
Um, for lol's I thought the WASHROOMS sign (it's yellow, and obvious), said MUSHROOMS
Hahaha.. the washroom sign lol! I definitely think the bit is a learning curve, and she definitely was mindful of it causing pain. I love the way Western is taught with keeping the hands so far forward. It's incredible the way each discipline can help.with the next!
How good were they in the command ! Well done guys , I hope your next western show is nice and sunny and warm , maybe get Sam to lawnmower round the horses to practice 😂
He does haha. They don't care about his lawnmower!
Well done Sophie And keep up the good work. And all the best.
Great job Sophie 🙌❤️
Great job Sophie and Storm!
😢😔
Well done 👏 loks like s much fun in the grim weather 😂 laughing at gabby 'anyway we need money' love it xx
Hahaha. She got right to the point ha
I think because Storm rocks the slower gates he could be an awesome western pleasure horse!
He used to be!!!
They did amazing in western
Yay!
When I had a horse show at my lesson barn we had to hold a spoon with an egg on it you had to keep it on the spoon that was so hard I drop it off I won 6 place
Well thats awesome still!
Well done Sophie and storm
Yeah that sucks that the lawn mowers are right there for sure! For it being her first time in this type show i think Sophie and Storm did very well considering on everything thats going on around them. That Simon Says game was fun! Sophie and Storm did well!! The water game was fun as well!! I think everyone had some fun! Thanks for sharing! ❣❤❤❤❤❣
It was truly a fun day with friends and family and horses. What could be better than that!
@@DayByDayVlogs 😊👍
Hi guys I ride western to 😂
Amazing!
I'll have to remember steady hands for my cowboy church horse show play day events that would be an easy event to add to the shows. Good job on that horse show. Those shows are long. I do speed events too that can make for a really long day. Can't wait to she Sophie in more.
Can't wait to explore more western fun games! Even gabby wanted to start
Good glad to hear Gabby wants to do it too. I have a book called "Games on Horse back" might see if y'all could find one. You can set up the games at home even you can do some of the games Laura with Penny. Always save the trail pattern paper you can always build a home trail course for practice.
Oh I love that! What the heck! Why aren't we doing it with our girls! Tomorrow!
Yesssssssss she did so good keep up the good work ❤
Hey Sophie congratulations on your first Weston pleasure show. And the money 💰 you won. So congratulations again. And Storm and you did so awesome too. And you looked so fancy in your Weston gear. Ai my 💗💕🥰❤️🤗💖❤️ to all.
Thank you!
she did pretty good being new to western, and with the split reins aswell. good job sophie :))
Thank you!
❤❤
I love the steady hands one.
Well done Sophie and Storm
I love to Ride In wettering.
What's the song artist and track title at 16:36 ??? Got a link to it?
It's called ok being me. It's one of my favorite songs because it's the one thing I wish everyone understood. It's absolutely ok to be who you are and that there are millions of ways of doing the same thing. No one way is perfect. That being yourself is so incredibly important because 1. It helps to draw the right people into your life, and 2. When you try and be someone you're not, it can cause so many mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. Lol, sorry! I'm just incredibly passionate about that song!
@@DayByDayVlogs Thnx. I love what you said.
